Why You Need to Be Doing What You Love, Not What They Tell You to Do!

I was driving down the street the other day and in the distance I saw a pigeon in the middle of the road. I didn't hit the brake since, after all, he's a pigeon, he can fly right?

My car kept getting closer to this bird and he wasn't moving. Suddenly, he noticed the car and instead of flying away, this bird begins running as fast as his tiny twig-like legs could carry him.

By this time, I've started breaking and yelling at the bird to get out of the street! He is still running across the road and finally he spreads his little wings and launches himself into the air and is out of sight in no time. At that moment something inside me said, "Now he is operating in his gift".

Running was not the birds gift, flying was. In fact, running was wearing him out, endangering his life and getting him nowhere fast. But when he made the decision to begin operating in his gift, the world was as it should be, (for both of us).

Over the past few days, I have thought about that bird many times, about how much he is like many of us. Each and every one of us are born with unique talents and gifts, yet many of us live our whole lives never really operating in our gift? How many people end up teaching school because grandma was a school teacher and mother was a school teacher so it seemed like the thing to do. Or how many of us follow the money instead of following our hearts when it comes to choosing employment?

There is a saying that goes like this, "Do what you love to do and you will never work another day in your life". It is so true. When you are doing what you love, you are getting paid to do what your heart longs to do anyway.

Why are you doing what you're doing right now in your life? Are you where your heart longs to be, or has it been so long since you even listened to the cries of your own heart? What is it you used to dream about doing or being? An artist? An author? A business owner? A stay-at-home mom? A pilot?

I encourage you today, to take a few minutes and just listen to your own heart as it begins to speak to you again about dreams and visions for your life tucked away high upon dusty shelves somewhere in your heart. It's time to pick them up again, dust them off and begin to move toward their fulfillment. If you've dreamed of being an artist, go buy a canvas and some paint and brushes, enroll in a class. If you've dreamed of becoming an author, begin writing; every day, write something. Go to the library and get books about writing. Have you always wanted to own your own business? Get specific, what kind of business would you like to have? Begin collecting information about the business you'd like to own, research it, is it a home-based business? An internet business? Get a piece of paper and begin jotting down the first things you will need to do in order to one day see yourself in the position you want to be in.

Don't sell yourself short! You are just as capable of being the owner of a business as your boss is. The difference between you and your boss is that he did something about his dream and you are just getting ready to do something about yours!

Life is too short to deny ourselves the opportunity to work toward realizing our hopes and dreams, and whatever it costs you to realize your dreams, it's a bargain at any price. You may have to work your regular job during the day and work on your dream part-time, or in the evening. If it didn't require sacrifice and dedication to reach the goals you have dreamed of reaching, then everyone would do it. The reason why there are millions and millions more employees than employers is because it does take perseverance and dedication to your dream to get there.

The great news is, it's not too late! Your dreams have been on life-support for a few years but this is your time, you're getting your second wind and this time you are going all the way!

Yes, it's time for you to crawl out of that cage, spread your wings and begin OPERATING IN YOUR GIFT!
