It's Time For Decisions - Awakening Sexual Identities

Fourteen-year-old Krista McKinley faces a situation like many teens do when she leaves behind Catholic parochial school in Ohio and gets enrolled at Crestmount High, in California: she has questions about her own sexual identity and role. Handled sensitively, Torn, the debut novel by Amber Lehman, is about Krista's questioning whether she wants to take her friendship with her best friend, Carrie, to a different level.

Twilight Audio Book

This is my own personal review of the Twilight audio book. My daughter, who is twelve years old, is a big Twilight fan and desperately wanted me to read the Twilight books. Normally this is not the type of book I would personally read, but I wanted to share this experience with my daughter, and was secretly quite curious to find out just what was so engaging about the book.

Stargazer - Evernight Book 2 by Claudia Gray

Fans of Stephenie Meyer and P.C. Cast will enjoy Stargazer, the second book in Claudia Gray's young adult series. The gothic vampire romance has a likable cast and Gray deftly portrays teenage angst in the heroine as she tells the story in first person. It brings some cleverly plotted twists to a genre that seems flooded with teenage vampires.

Evernight - Book 1 by Claudia Gray is the first in a series that will please fans of teenage vampire romance. And Bianca, the heroine, tells them in first person narration.

Frostbite - Vampire Academy Book 2 by Richelle Mead

I'm reading the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead and I think I like the second book even better than the first.
The Ultimate Alternative - When One Chooses Lust Over Love by Richard Watkins

"The Ultimate Alternative" vividly illustrates the devastation of meaningful relationships brought about by illicit lapses into "out of control" choices driven by lust. Richard Watkins uses fiction as a platform to demonstrate the danger and downfall of sexual addictions in the lives of otherwise successful, outwardly well adjusted people. The novel highlights the lives of Isaac, Jasmine, Derek, and Monica in a fast moving drama of flirtation, sexual affairs, deceit, unfaithfulness, and adultery.

On the Balls of My Feet

This book is an introspective and gritty tale of a sheltered middle class boy finding himself in an exclusive and highly competitive high school situated in a dangerous inner city neighborhood in the late 1960s. Although a work of fiction, the story is based on real people, places and events and depicts the freedom and responsibility that accompanies a young adult's transformation from adolescence to adulthood.

Teen Works - Four Teens Tell All - A Guide For Finding Jobs - Book Review

I just finished reading "Teen Works: Four Teens Tell All: A Guide For Finding Jobs" by Noreen E. Messina. I am heavily involved in the teen job industry as the owner of a teen job board and as such I try to read as many books on the subject as I can. My initial thought when I first pick up this book was, not another one. It seems like this is a very saturated niche. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised and found the book to be very informative and entertaining. In fact, it is one of the best books that I have read on this topic.

A Provocative Essay on Marjane Satrapi's Universally Acclaimed "Persepolis" For Confused Teens

Marjane Satrapi's engrossing, poignant, and sometimes hilarious "graphic memoir" Persepolis (2003) is further proof that the graphic novel itself has come a long way since the days of Superman, Batman, Hellboy, and those other superheroes we idolize in our popular culture. However, I believe young adults will find Satrapi's memoir of growing up during the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, and the bloody Iraq-Iran War that followed, no less appealing than the flashy comics they normally read during their spare time, and for a few very good reasons.

Perfect Book For a Young Man

Most all young boys and men love sports and they really do not like to spend all day reading, as they would rather be out being boys, doing what young people do, playing sports. Still, we as parents realize that we must get them to sit and read if they are to grow up and become successful in the world. It is hard to find such a book that will pique their curiosity or one they will start, read to the end and complete.

Written with humor and tasteful exploration into alternative lifestyles and different colors of skin. Amy is well educated in English, Literature and Drama.
Crossing 13 - Memoir of a Father's Suicide by Carrie Stark Hugus - Book Review

Carrie Hugus was only thirteen when she found her father in the garage after he gassed himself. Instantly, she asked herself why she hadn't known to stop him, why did it happen to her father, and what could she have done differently? For years she lived with guilt, shame, confusion and an obsession with why. In "Crossing 13: Memoir of a Father's Suicide," Carrie relives the experience, writing in the voice of her thirteen-year old self, but also with the perspective of an adult looking back.

Young People and the Cycle of Life

So, often young people are so caught up in emotion that they fail to recognize the long-term picture, of course, this allows them to get caught up in the moment and really live their lives to the full extreme. The pain and sorrow, joy and laughter, love and lust are all wrapped up in a huge ball that consumes them. Indeed, they should be aware of more prudent possibilities, choices and decisions, but to explain them is pearls to swine at that point because there are over riding factors that 'we' just cannot understand.

A Critical Look at the Book - "When Zachary Beaver Came to Town"

The situations in the book relating to death and divorce may dampen the spirits of a few young people but overall I would say that this is a very good read. The book is 227 pages and relates to boys and girls age 10 and up. The author manages to give a warm and distinctive vision of small town America during one of its most horrific wars. The book is set in 1971 and deals with alienation, acceptance and redemption.

Will Power

The person with a strong willpower will always succeed in clearing the examination of life. Never give up, always be ready for the upcoming problems because they will never end. Problems are incessant. I will not compare them with anything because everyone has its own thinking criteria. For instance, for me problems are similar to mathematics, for you it might be your neighbor's pet or it can be increase in the monthly expenditure for someone else.

Young Adult Book Review - Looking for a Good Book - Got One for You!

Why would I, a writer myself of much more contemporary works invite a young adult to read a book that was written in 1955? Well, the answer to that question is fairly simple, because it is the kind of book that captures that attention and spirit of a young reader and one whose message, through its fast paced and most intriguing storyline will indeed, captivate the imagination. A book whose beginning, middle and end, will be remembered and whose subtle message not forgotten.
