The Crucifier and in the Beginning by L E Azer

L. E. Azer has included two short stories in this edition of his book "The Crucifier and In the Beginning." Both stories are fictionalized accounts of Biblical events. Both are reasonable illustrations of ingenious "what if" story telling. "The Crucifixion" is taken from the dramatic events leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus on the cross. It is the story of young Tyterrain, and of the impact Jesus' death had on his life.

The Crucifier and in the Begging by L E Azer

Restoring Respect For First Nation Wisdom

I am just finishing the first book by Laurens van der Post that I have ever read. It won't be the last. The book is called A Story Like the Wind and it follows the life of a 13 year old European boy, Francois, living on a remote farm in a country in Africa. His father, a former school superintendent who left public service because he disagreed with the public policy of inferior education for native peoples, home schools Francois. But the true education of this child of the frontier is derived from the native people who help to raise him, principally Matabele and Bushmen. The respect that van der Post paints of the tribal cultures is profound. Laurens was raised in Africa in the early 1900s in a family with 15 children and he grew up immersed in the stories of the original African cultures. Many of these stories are no longer told. These people had a profound awareness of their connection with the natural world. It is this awareness that we in the West need to foster and expand.

Anne of Green Gables - An Inspirational Story

If you're reading this, you're most likely a fan of Anne of Green Gables. Lucy Maud Montgomery, a Canadian author, created the character of Anne Shirley -- spelt with an E -- when she wrote this book for young girls and women alike in 1908. Based in Canada's smallest province and Ms. Montgomery's home, this novel is written in beautiful Cavendish, Prince Edward Island. A young orphan girl, filled with an incredible imagination, finally finds her place in a home with an elderly woman, Marilla, and her brother, Matthew.

The Princess

In most fairy tales, when the Princess and Prince get married, the story ends "happily ever after". In Lori Wick's "The Princess," however, the vows are only the beginning. Although this is the story of an arranged marriage, I found its underlying message quite relevant to most people today, and I think it may especially help those who are struggling or considering divorce.

Inspirational Fiction Can Light Up Your Day

Why So Many Authors Are Writing Inspirational Books

There was a time when fiction was categorized in just a few main categories, the most popular being science fiction, horror, romance, and the western. Today's readers, however, have taken on more complex tastes, giving writers more freedom when writing their stories. One of the most popular "sub-genres" of fiction that authors like Karen Kingsbury and Beverly Lewis are taking advantage of, is Inspirational Fiction.

Midnight Sea Written by Colleen Coble

I had read another book, Alaska Twilight, written by this author. I doubted that "Midnight Sea" could be as terrific a book as the former. I was wrong!

Hermetica by Paul Kiritsis - Book Review

Mesmerize yourself with the lore of Ancient Egypt and other distant cultures in Paul Kiritsis's magnificent and stunning "Hermetica." The book is both a collection of poetry and Kiritsis's own rendition of epic ancient myths and legends. Its title reflects both its sources in Hermetic literature and its concern with alchemy, primarily the alchemy of love. Paul Kiritsis states that he wrote "Hermetica" so readers will be "more aware of the literary worth of long gone civilizations and develop a greater appreciation of ancient folklore. I want people to think about where we fall in the wider scheme of things; our relation to the universe, to religion, to one another in general.

Between Sundays

It seems like every Karen Kingsbury book I read makes me reconsider becoming a foster parent, and Between Sundays is no exception. In this heartwarming novel, Kingsbury touches lightly on the flaws in the foster system, while reminding all Christians that it isn't so important what you do on the Sabbath as is your life in between Sundays. This novel tells the story of Cory, a young boy who believes what his destitute mother always told him - his father is the famous 49ers star quarterback, Aaron Hill.

Write On: An Invitation to Write with Julia Cameron's "The Right to Write"

The best advice a writer can get is: Write. The second best advice a writer can get is: Read. The point of her book is not to teach you to be a brilliant writer, nor to aide your aspirations of becoming a best-selling novelist. Instead, she conveys that everyone has the right to expression, the right to put words to paper, and in the process, who knows what may happen.
