Wisconsin's Bratwurst Tradition
By Febe Van Zanten

In Wisconsin, bratwurst is a favorite food for tailgating, picnics, fairs, holidays, baseball, football and any other time with the possible exception of when we are under a winter storm advisory. Even in the dead of winter groups will be out in front of stores frying out and selling brats (short for bratwurst) for a fund raiser. Frying out is the popular terminology in Wisconsin for grilling out of doors.

Great article, Febe! Really captures the truth about Sheboygan and the "Wurst City of the World." Especially liked the emphasis on how to cook a brat and the fact that the taste changes if you do not cook it slowly on an open grill! Most people are unaware and ruin them . . . turning them into "just another sausage." UGH! You go. . . . keep on writing!
