I tend to agree with the author, at least partially. I'm not sure about all the 'snow leopard' vs 'p**** cat' analogy, but I certainly enjoy being a bachelor. Earlier in life I almost took the plunge, but backed out at the last minute.
I didn't understand the reason then, but deep down I knew I was giving up my freedom. Since then I have traveled the world, lived in new cities, towns and back woods. I've had other women, other experiences that I would never have had otherwise.
All the friends I had that got married shared a certain quality of conformity, one that I never had and still don't. A few have pulled out of the marriage trap and, as the author describes, payed huge financial penalties. I've never had to support a child and/or a wife, so everything I've earned over the years has piled up to a nice nest egg, and it's looking like an early retirement is very likely. What's more, through the years I've had about 1/4 of the stress that my married friends have had and frankly, I look about 15 years younger than all of them!
