Subject: the Irish should take a cue from your tips to tourists

My sister-in-law comes over to visit us regularly in the States. She lives in Dublin. When she's here, she regularly refers to everything as "American crap", goes on about what retards the yanks are, and tells everyone how much better Dublin is. I was never a huge fan of the US before, but I really want to tell her to go back to Ireland. Your travel tips for Americans visiting Ireland are good, but it applies the other way around as well!!!

I found Kathy's article about how American's are perceived in Ireland quite interesting and helpful. I have never been there, my fiance has been there numerous times and wants to move to live and raise our two children. Yeah, can you believe it, I have agreed to live in a place i have never visited. But I'm 43, and I have experienced a few life changing incidents that have awaken me to life being too short. My maternal family is Irish having come here to the states during the famine. I am looking forward to the complete and totally insane leap of faith.

Subject: Katies article and comment #1

Firstly I should let you know that I am Irish. From my experience of Americans, I think they are one of the nicest and certainly most friendly nations in the world! I think also that most Irish people think the same(after all 12% of Americans are Irish-Americans). While they may not show it straight away, I think Irish people and American People do bond well, and their personalities suit each other. Also, Americans can appear as loud to Irish people, and often will be the loudest in a restaurant etc(even though Irish can get very rowdy), but that's just their trait, not arrogance etc. Also, Katie mentioned Americans complaining about how much better things are in the U.S. I think that that doesn't really happen that much anymore, since the Celtic Tiger in Ireland, Irish people have become prone to complaining and being negative. And in relation to comment #1, your sister in-law has also seemed to have got that complaining bug, courtesy of the Celtic Tiger. You probably know this well but things are not better in Dublin than the U.S, by no means. The things she says are terrible and she should be ashamed. She has seemed to have got this Anti-American attitude probably courtesy of the Bush administration, even though that's no excuse. She's plain rude and not a good ambassador to of country(as you probably know if you decided to marry an Irish person!). As for your comment '"the Irish should take a cue" from those tips', I completely agree! Irish people are just as rude as Americans if not ruder. Overall, I would agree that most Irish and American people like each other. PS, Americans, please don't take offense if Irish people call you 'yanks' they don't mean it in a derogatory way(most people most of the time) for those that don't, don't heed them they're just rude! Thanks for reading.
