Subject: Vitamin K?
Hello,
Vitamin K is most definitely NOT the same as potassium. Vitamin K is a fat soluble vitamin, whereas potassium is a mineral. Bananas are a great source of potassium, which is important for muscular contraction; low potassium can result in muscular fatigue and sometimes muscular cramps. Low calcium and magnesium can also cause muscle cramps.
It's important to note that consuming a lot of potassium can be very damaging. It can actually cause muscle spasms and stomach cramps, even heart failure (because the heart is also a muscle). DO NOT TAKE POTASSIUM IN EXCESS!! A banana a day should usually meet potassium needs, unless you do a lot of exercise, in which case 2 bananas a day should do it.
Vitamin K does not usually need to be consumed because it is produced naturally by the bacteria in the stomach tract, and it is fat soluble, so it is stored in the body. Also, enough vitamin K is usually consumed in the diet anyways.
