Tips For Replacing Car Refrigerant Caution must be used with filling the refrigerant in your car. Check the gauge - if it reads green, no maintenance is necessary. [VIEW ARTICLE]Comments RSS Feed For This Article: 2
Subject: Refrigerant safety In some states, you need a certification in A-C to purchase refrigerant. A-C system work is dangerous and can result in serious injury. Only a trained professional should attempt this. You need to have proper equipment (gauges) and tools. Also, it is illegal to discharge refrigerant into the atmosphere, something which amateurs may accidentally do while they are getting their face blown off. Please people, take your car to a licensed facility and a certified ASE tech. They will make sure the material is properly removed, recycled and installed. Do not attempt a 'shade tree mechanic' approach to A-C repair. Comment provided November 19, 2009 at 7:36 pm

Subject: More Isn't Necessarily Better
As a Master Auto technician for over 25 years, I agree with your advice "Caution must be used with filling the refrigerant in your car." Damage can be done to the compressor if adding is done wrong, also personal injury.
Adding refrigerant can be done safely but it's best to have both gauge readings and know what they mean. When it comes to topping off a system with refrigerant, more isn't necessarily better!
