Throat Constriction Or Spasm Conditions of the Esophagus and Reflux on the Increase Are you getting food stuck at the top of your throat or chest? Your muscles in your esophagus that allow food or liquid to pass are usually closed when you are not swallowing. [VIEW ARTICLE]Comments RSS Feed For This Article: 2
Subject: Throat Constriction I freaked out the first time this happened. Now I can recognize when it's coming on. The only thing that works for me is to take a gulp of a carbonated diet drink. It's pretty painful, but I get immediate relief. Comment provided October 24, 2009 at 12:26 pm

Subject: throat constriction
Thanks for the article. Just suffered this problem this morning. Happened once perhaps 7 years ago. I am under 30 and thin. But I do suffer from GERD symptoms. I think drinking, spicy foods, pizza, etc do not react with me well. I was eating bacon and eggs and got up real quick and it suddenly felt like I was choking. But then I realized I could breath. The problem was that I couldn't drink any water. After about 10-15 minutes of this, I eventually threw up the little amount of food and now feel fine. I think a patience with food and control of my acid reflux will help in the future.
