The New EPIRB Regulations - Beware! The unreliability of the 121.5 and 243 MHZ transmitters in an emergency situation has brought about the new regulations for Emergency Position Indicating Beacons. Research has shown that only about one of fifty signals received were true emergencies. The new regulation applies to all class A, B, and S 121.5 and 243MHz EPIRBs.
