The Big 3 Car Audio Wiring Upgrade
By Eric Nguyen

The "Big 3" is a very simple addition to your car's electrical system. Basically, three additional runs of wire are added to the vital parts of your car's electrical system in order to support high current draw from powerful amplifiers. With the "Big 3" installed, you will notice higher voltages to your amp, which means your amplifier is putting out more power than it could before.

Subject: That isn't why you upgrade the big 3

"What causes this problem are the stock, small gauge wires used to connect various electrical components. The stock wire is usually 8 gauge, which is sufficient enough for roughly 50 amps. Large amplifiers can pull up and over 200-300amps, so now you see the problem."

This is extremely perplexing. Yeah, large amplifiers might pull 200-300A, but that doesn't mean that upgrading the wire is magically going to make 250A appear out of nowhere!

You probably blew your amp because your stock alternator couldn't put out the power for it, NOT because of the wiring.

The big 3 is only for after a high output alternator installation has been performed.
