Good point about the chipset not necessarily changing for the newer GPS models. Just because a newer model is released doesn't mean the older, discontinued GPS models are obsolete. As stated in the article, many times the newer units have the same parts as the older ones (but cost twice as much). There's some tremendous savings to be had for those that are willing to consider last year's model.
