Subject: UVA does NOT promote Vitamin D production.
After reading this article I thought it best to put some facts into the discussion. While it is true that UVB radiation in large enough amounts is known to have harmful effects, it is not in and of itself a bad thing. It is ONLY UVB radiation (UV light between 290-315 nm) that promotes the conversion of "provitamin D" into "previtamin D3." So, tanning in beds that are exclusively emmitting UVA radiation will produce NO vitamin D. It is just like nearly all things in life, natural products are rarely just good or just bad, it's the amount that makes all the difference.
