I respect your opinion, but your list definetly shows that you are american (maybe young) and you don't know anything about box.

Roberto "Mano de piedra" Duran is one of the gratest boxer ever, even the many boxers you listed in your list recognized that. Is the best latin american boxer ever and definetly top 5, greatest lightweight of all-time.

It seems that you don't know what oponents he defeated and the fact that have more than 60 KOs.

Lennox Lewis beat all comers for years and years. He demolished all the americans who challenged him. Clearly he is a fantastic boxer who for some strange reason americans (and americans only) do not recognise. Additionally even Ali and Foreman have stated he is the greatest. What more can I say....

What about Alexis Arguello, guys? He almost made history when he fought Aaron Pryor in 1981. He could it be the first boxer ever to win four titles in four different categories. He did not, but was very closed. So, what do you guys think?

Rocky Marciano was is and will always be the best pound for pound fighter. he was a man fighting in heavywhieght divsion, who should of been fighting in the middle whieghts, and yet he was still able to defeat all 49 opponents and knock out 43 of them despite him being much smaller. and where is Jack Dempsy on this list of yours he is the only person to give Marciano a run for number one

Subject: Duran Belongs In Top 5

Roberto Duran in my opinion is the best lightweight ever,he was a relentless punching machine who looked as fresh after 15 hard rounds as he did in the first round. He wore down all comers in his prime and I think he would do the same to lightweight greats such as Chavez,Whittaker,De La Hoya, and Mosley!

Gary: Don't know much about statistics but I enjoyed reading your article. From an early age, my brother and I were held captives to my father's love affair with the sport. I hated the brutality but loved the passion and the lore. From John L. Sullivan and Gentleman Jim Corbett to Max Schmeling knocking out Joe Louis, and Sugar Ray Robinson never having one hair out of place at the end of a fight—My dad (a great storyteller) made it all sound so glamorous and exciting that I let myself be dragged to see "Raging Bull." Never saw another until "Cinderella Man" which I liked. Thanks for your article.Susan Scharfman

Subject: top ten list

I thought your top ten list was not bad.......with the exception of maybe Sugar Ray L.who although he was a talented boxer...he was also calculating when picking his fights........I question his wins against Hagler and the Hit Man.

R. Duran should have made that list too........come on.... he made a fool of Sugar Ray L. and the 2nd fight was staged.

By the way....how about all those great mexican fighters?

Anyway.........as they say......it all looks good from ringside.

i can understand y u put certain people in their respective places, but i must say that Muhammad Ali was the greatest ever, despite his 3 year suspension. I do, however, agree with u on the point that muhammad ali was at his prime at the time of the suspension- he would've won every bout he fought in those three years! HE WAS THE KING OF THE WORLD!

He could it be the first boxer ever to win four titles in four different categories. He did not, because Pryor had a strange substance used as per HBO caught on its microphones asking for the" bottle that his trainer mixed"and who was that? Panama Lewis who has modified one of his fighter's boxing glove with a piece of metal before years before Pryor's fight since Alexis landed some bombs in that fight and anyone could have gone down with those punches.

There are other boxers outside the states you know!! Tyson shouldnt even be in there. He has no prowess or or integrity hes just an overrated slugger. Yeah he was and animal, granted, but he also had the intelligence of an animal. Two words, one name Evander Holyfield. Not only that, Lennox Lewis, if someone offered you $3million with nothing to pay out to just not fight wouldnt you? Hes much better than Tyson.

Subject: Lewis

Lewis was paid to stay away from Tyson. He beat everyone out there including a Klitcho which you seem to think he avoided. Thats despite being about to retire when Klitcho was in his prime. What makes that more important is the fact the Klitcho then went on to become world champion before being replaced by his brother.

As for Bowe, he ran and gave up the title rather than try to beat Lewis.

Holyfield, everyone knows Lewis won both fights.

Tyson? Past his prime in fairness but so was Lewis.

He beat Ruddock, a respected fighter at the time, within 2 rounds and won every heavyweight title out there. He would have won and retained the world title longer if he hadnt taken his time and picked up the commonwealth and earupean titles first.

Subject: Needs lots of revision

I agree with the number one and two spot. i don't think anyone would really argue that. after that, though, the list is very noticeably missing LOTS of names. Willie Pep was one of the greatest if not the greatest lightweight ever. Henry Armstrong is the only person in boxing history to ever hold a title in 3 different weight classes simultaneously (featherweight, lightweight, welterweight). there were only 8 weight classes at the time. i can't believe Archie Moore or Ezzard Charles didn't make the list either. you might want to do more research when putting a list together like this one.
