Submersible Well Pump How to Replace Replacing a submersible well pump is not a complicated task and relatively simple if you understand the basics about a well system - like the placement of the pump, how the submersible pump operates and how it is installed in a well casing. An advanced do it yourselfer with knowledge of electrical wiring and some basic plumbing skills is probably capable of replacing a submersible irrigation pump. This is not a step by step installation guide but rather an overview for a general understanding to evaluate whether to do it yourself or hire a contractor. Subject: Submersible well string is heavy! Thanks for the great article! One item not touched on -- our well string is around 250' long of 1" black poly pipe full of water. Too heavy for me to lift by hand. Can you suggest a good hoisting method, how to hold onto the pipe and so on? Thank you! Comment provided August 13, 2009 at 12:54 pm

Subject: submersible well
I had no clue how to change the submersible well, and most of all, I didn't know if I could. But I can plum and I do have an electrical background. Your information gave me a real world picture of what to expect, It was accurate to the T. I changed out my 145 foot well with my Son's help in only 2 hours, which saved me $1,000.00. My son was impressed when I tested the motor before putting the pump back in the ground.
Thank you for your information and confidence building.
