Subject: response to your comment Hi Diana, I'm glad you found the article helpful. You are 100% on the mark about students disclosing PRIOR to college (that's covered in a different article!). I find that students with disabilities can barely do structured classwork as freshmen (with a great deal of support), so the idea of independent study REALLY scares me. I think they'd all be circling the drain. However, in time, students have to learn to stand on their own.... hopefully, with initial support and success, they will learn to do that. By the way, my online course is no longer. It is now delivered via e-mailed handouts and group telephone coaching, allowing me to greatly reduce my price and make it affordable to more. The content has remained exactly the same, however. I LOVE teaching it! Thanks for your comment! Comment provided October 26, 2009 at 11:15 pm

I found your article short but helpful, however, as I work at a Canadian college taking SAT's and college entrance tests are not an issue for us. Two additional points I'd raise are 1)the importance of contacting their college's disability service and disclosing their disability prior to the commencement of college (too many students don't ask for the help they need) and 2)the need for more independent study in college as professors are less available and students need to be prepared to work outside of class time.
Your online course sounds interesting.
