A school uniform consists of a limited range of clothing, including footwear and headwear. It identifies students as belonging to a particular school. Schools usually expect students to wear the uniform during school hours, while traveling to and from school, and when engaged in school activities out of school hours. One of the chief benefits of school uniforms, say proponents, is that they make schools safer. Uniforms are said to reduce gang influence, minimize violence by reducing some sources of conflict, and help to identify trespassers. Parents benefit because they are no longer pressured to buy the latest fashions, and they spend less on their children's clothing. Having a uniform stops gang members from displaying their colours and garb. The schools also believe it helps stop violence and helps instill a sense of pride in the students. It also helps to break down the barriers between different socioeconomic groups. I feel we should keep to the uniform. It sets an example of the school. It is representation the community. It is easy to point out different people. Also there would be more fights/bully due to the lack of 'fashion'. "

I think that there are many pros and cons to having schooo uniforms. I, myself, think that we should have school uniforms. Some people say that you can't express yourself, but there are many other ways to express yourself other than your clothing. i also think that if you have a uniform you are judged on personality instead of clothing which i believe is improtant. There would be less bullying because you are all egual.

Students should not wear school uniforms because it takes away their expression. A kid should be able to dress casually. Some students myight be embarrassed of the way they dress in uniform. Wearing the same clothes is wrong, everyone looks the same.

i think kids should not have to wear uniforms is it is a public school we have a dress code and that is enough from the students part to follow it. if not they should be punished. kids should have a right to wear what ever they want as long as the clothes are approved.

This site was amazing! It gave me so much info for my school prodject! DONT WEAR UNIFORMS! the consitution gives up freedome of choice! This means we can choose what to wear and not have to wear what other people say. In reality, how many students get teased because of what they wear? more students get teased for different reasons. The schools take away our rights making us wear uniforms. In my opinion, if someone took so much time to write down the rights that we have, then everybody else should follow those.

Uniforms are out of the question, Im about to graduate still wearing uniforms I can see Middle School kids and Elementary School kids wearing them but a child in the 11th or 12th grade thats a disgrace to society. Our teenage years are suppose to be the best years of our life but that's not so because every school we attend we have to wear uniforms.most people like to dress up on their birthday but when your birthday is through the week you cant dress up to show it's your birthday you have wear uniforms. 90% of our student body votes against uniforms we have never had to wear uniforms in high school now all of as sudden this year we have to wear uniforms and we cant wear a colorful shirt under our uniform clothes, we cant wear snow boots or cartoon jackets.its even a certain way we can wear our hair. There are certain shoes we can't wear and they don't. I feel like I'm in jail!!!!!! This is causing a huge drop out rate at our school

I do not agree when people claim and say that wearing school uniforms will cut down the number of bullying incidents. I can see what they mean, but at the same time that argument is flawed. Most people who go to private schools in my area have to buy parts of their uniform at the store. So you still have people going to the store and choosing between the cheap and the expensive clothing. You still get an option----and I know the private elementary school allows the kids to have a choice in the shoes, jewelry, etc. So you are still seeing kids with Spiderman shoes.

Ohkay, so if you people think we should enforce school uniforms everywhere, then your crazy. It violates a students/persons right to free expression and speech, both of which are listed in the Constitution. When students roam the hallways on a normal day, you always pass that group of "clones". You know, the people who act and dress JUST alike. Well if schools get uniforms, soon everyone will be dressing alike, therefore sterrotypes will fade and soon people will all act the same. Thusfore making us into those "clones".

In conclusion, school uniforms would disrupt the learning atmopshere and increase how much someone got picked on. Only now students wouldn't get picked on in their own school, but in others.

and no I am not some crazed teacher, I am 14 and I know what I am talking about ! :] thanks dolls .

i'm doing a speech for my English class on public school uniforms and, yes, i believe that every school should have a uniform of some sort even if it's as simple as khakis and a certain color polo. it makes the school appear more proper and it basically forces students to look deeper than on appearance therefore causing most cliques to disappear. the world today is based on looks, whether you going for an interview or simply to the store, you're being judge. wearing uniforms could possible start a revolution.

What you wear on your back has nothing to do with being in gangs or being smarter. Children have their own personalities and we express them when we wear our clothes. If we wear school uniforms you will kill the small choice students have. Anyway, shouldn't the success come from the students' inner side, not the clothes on their back.

take it from a person who wears a uniform have been, for 13 years it's that feeling that sense of pride, belonging in your school and a school united. we have so many jeans days and dress up days that are fun and the fact that its once in a while makes it more exciting, but in the end we just wear uniform thats what it comes down to. its not the clothes that makes you express who you are, its the person inside maybe if everyone were showed as equals and not being judged by what they wear, people would see it

I used to wear uniforms back in elementary school and sometimes I wasn't too fond of it. But as I look back to how it was, there was less conflict, no one having to say your clothes were ugly or you got them from a wal mart. You weren't so much judged by your clothing but how you expressed yourself through your actions and words. School uniforms will benefit the students into having a much safer environment. It's something to really consider.

Why should we have to wear them? All they do is make us all look alike. Don't you think that a school where every student looks alike is boring? Parents buy them for no reason because after a year or two their child won't wear the same uniform. They are just wasting their money. Now shirts and jeans children will wear them for a long time 4-5 years maybe. Also the school uniform costs more than our jeans and our shirts. So I am AGAINST school uniforms. They have to go....soon.

I would like to wear what ever I feel like wearing at long it is limited . When I mean limited I mean nothing revealing like mini skirts, shorts , and shirts that shows your chest . I think students should be allowed to wear regular clothes like jeans, pants, shirts, capri’s , and many other different kind of clothing at long it is limited .I just don't think students should have to wear uniforms because most kids don't even like to wear uniform and the majority of the time they come to school out of uniform. There is much debate about school uniforms. Pros and cons for having them and not having them. I believe that you should not have school uniforms in school. First you want to express yourself and who you are. Yes I know that some people say that clothing isn't the only way you can but it is a major way of expressing yourself. Also some families might not be able to afford school uniforms, and going to buy your own choice of clothing is much cheaper than having to buy a school uniform. There are also teachers who teach freedom of choice so it curtails the students freedom to make that choice of what they want to wear. So I believe that having school uniforms is ridiculous! Thanks

I think it really does depend on what the student believes. Some people would like to be themselves and wear what they want and be who they want to be but others would like for every one to look the same so they will have one less thing to be made fun of for. Maybe they want uniforms because they don't have money for the clothes they would like to wear.

We should have a uniform as it can save arguments over what to wear in the morning and depending on what you wear you can be bullied if you don't wear 'fashionable' clothing that is not as expensive as others then you may well be classed as a HOBO, TRAMP or worse and this is my reason for thinking that children all over the world should have a school uniform (unless you really can't afford it)!
