My girlfriend has been out of work for 3 months and has preexisting medical conditions. She flat out CANNOT get insurance that is affordable through an individual plan. She's tried, but all the plans that she qualifies for cost almost as much as she earns in a month.
Our choices are either to get married so she can get on my insurance or she can try and go without insurance and pay her medical expenses out of pocket, which would be devastatingly expensive.
