Subject: What if lawyer is quoting a small hourly price Hourly rates are based on experience and expertise as well as the marketplace locale. If an hourly rate appears to be low for the market, ask the lawyer about it. The lawyer probably has a rationale for the hourly rate. It might be marketing, but whatever the reason the rate is probably not unintentional. If you have a concern about an aspect of billing or fees, the best practice is to address that concern directly with the lawyer. As you correctly perceive, the real issue is the overall fee for the project. Ask for an estimate of the final fee and get an agreement for the fee not to exceed a certain amount without prior written notification. Comment provided October 19, 2009 at 2:48 pm

Subject: What if lawyer is quoting a small hourly price
If the lawyer is quoting a price significantly below going rates, does that mean they are not as experienced or are going to inflate the number of hours to make up for it? Should we look at a different lawyer if the price is too low? thanks, the article is very much appreciated
