Laser Hair Removal - The Painful Side Effects Nobody Told You About
By Sarah Wright

When it comes to laser hair removal, we all know the benefits. It is quite painless, it's quick, and it can be permanent.

But what we don't usually know is that it can have some interesting and sometimes painful side effects.

So to make sure you're well informed before having laser hair removal performed on you, I'm going to give you the skinny on the possible side effects that you may not know about.

Let’s get started: The most common side effects aren't really that bad. These are the things like swelling (most often around where the hair follicle was – after all – it has just been burned off your skin), and maybe some itchiness. These side effects are quite normal, and won't last very long.

Subject: Dentist

I just had a session of laser hair removal on my face. Not only did I have all of the side effects you listed in your article, I also experienced dizziness, a severe headache, and I could feel pain in my teeth when the laser was used on my upper lip and chin. The dizziness and headache persisted for a week, and I felt fatigued. I think that laser hair removal is a lot more invasive than anyone wants to believe. I am a dentist and lasers are also used in my field. I will think twice about having anymore laser hair removal treatments until I am satisfied that it is truly as safe as everyone thinks. I have also been told by a friend that she knew a woman who had laser hair removal and fainted in her car while driving herself home from the appointment. The woman died. No one wants to admit that these laser beams are doing more damage than expected. More research needs to be done!

Subject: laser heat burn

I had a headache for a couple days and saw the optometrist. I had to go to a second one to be diagnosed with a heat burn from the laser. Though wearing protective goggles, I still got flashed through the skin and saw the light. I'm very fair skinned, maybe that's why. It's been 5 days and I'm still in pain, but now have steroid/antibiotic drops for my eyes. You probably had the same thing. Also, the Dr. told me that the laser flash (or UV tanning bed) can trigger a viral infection that can be quite serious (herpes type 1, 2 or Zoster). I'm going for elecrolosis instead. My eyes are precious. People should know these are also risks. I'm sure I signed a waiver so I can't sue - I'm very angry that I wasn't made aware of this though.
