Subject: comment on how to help child to read
One wonderful way to help a child learn to read is to read aloud to the child all the great stories. They do not need to be picture books, although illustrations are fine, but the sound of the words and the strength that you give the words as you read aloud are the great motivators for reading. I have 3 grown children all of them great readers, and four grandchildren--all brilliant students and I am a professional storyteller. I read aloud to my children from the time they were born! And my sister's children also, and this is what they absolutely love. I have never yet met a child (25 years preschool teaching)who does not love for you to read aloud to them, and tell them stories as you travel in the car, and just anytime! It makes them love books and words and they will read early and be way out ahead of those who do not have this exposure. My mother read aloud to all of us, and told stories, and recited funny poems.
