This article and Page's website have been invaluable to me and my starting my own cleaning service. Some sites are so vague, about what to charge, or what products to use, especially if you have never cleaned wood floors, and Page has definitley given me that info. I still to this day use her article and website as a reference, and have been very successful. I hope to one day be able to help someone in the same way! Thanks!!

Hello Patti,

Thank you for your awesome tips. My husband and I are just starting a cleaning business and find your advise very helpful. We are in Maryland and hope to apply your tips to ours and have found that we certainly do think alike when it comes to the best service for our customers!

We are now in the process of marketing etc. All the best!

Subject: Great article but $200 isnt' accurate...It's more like $2000 when all costs are considered.

I think that it is very informative and one of the best articles I've read on cleaning businesses. However, you can't start a legitimate cleaning business for under $200.00. If you add up all of the costs that are incurred from products to advertising to insurance it's at least $2000.00. I still think it's an excellent article and when considering everything two thousand dollars is minimal when considering how much it would cost to start up most businesses. I should have done this a long time ago when I wanted to before losing over 50k in the restaurant business. Now here I am back to square one doing what I should have done in the first place.

This info is perfect... I have been searching the net to find ideas of how to price so I don't underbid. I managed a small cleaning company before and the women said she had some houses she underbid because it was in the beginning and now she knows but we still had to clean for cheap some days. I think you can start up with little money.. Most of the supplies you already own anyway from doing your own household cleaning.. Thanks for the great info..

In response to Debra's comment. Getting those first clients can be difficult. If you live in a large town you no doubt have plenty of competition. You need to offer something the other companies don't. Something that makes your company stand out above the rest. Try a special promotion or discount to start with. Clean for a few family and friends to establish some references. Don't give up. Once you land those first few clients, make sure you give them the best service possible to get those referrals.

This is something I know i could do and everyone keeps telling me i should do. my only problem is that at the present time i'm a stay at home mom. Would it be apropriate to take my son with me? I feel like its not, and at the moment daycare is not an option. What should I do? Wait or keep pushing on. Thanks for the inspiration. Abby

Hello, I want to say thank you, thank you. It's a blessing to see that someone can offer free advice & GIVE great information because they have been truly bless in their growth of their business. I started my cleaning business 6 months ago. I put an ad in the paper. Went to Walmart and brought items around $90.00. My insurance is $70.00 monthly. I spent around 250.00 to start. You do have to show your clients that they can trust you and you must stand out from the rest. The most important thing for me is that I enjoy what I do and what I do best is Clean. Thanks again I will be using your advice. Sharon

Subject: How To Start A Window Cleaning Business

Great information! It's really interesting how cheap it can be to start such a successful business, however from what I have learned with my business it takes money to make money. It seems when I invest wisely in my company it tends to pay off with more customers.

I am just starting a housecleaning business - I'm making the best of moving into a mega-apartment complex with over 1200 suits - many with elderly needing help! Her words of encouragement, marketing skills and her belief in "green" cleaning and aromatic products couldn't possibly have come at a better time!!

Subject: New Jersey House Cleaning Company Start up

As a small New jersey cleaning company owner, I feel this cleaning article was well written. It was very informative, each state does vary on insurance, and your cleaning company start up costs will vary. It my instance I have found I was able to get my New Jersey cleaning company off the ground with a lot of elbow grease, perseverance and a positive attitude. Despite never meeting her personally Patti is highly respected in her house cleaning marketing.
