Subject: Planking I have never used green wood when planking, although I can not see any reason why it would not work, other than the taste might be changed. Give it a try using an inexpensive cut of meat, and see if it tastes good. If not, you've got a great source for planks, and you might want to consider drying them for your use, or the use for others (There's a big market for dried cedar planks, as cedar is not found everywhere.) Thank you for the question. I'll research it myself, and get back to you if I have an answer. Billy Comment provided August 24, 2009 at 6:54 pm

Subject: cutting a tree for planks
I have property with cedar and hickory trees. I would like to cut some planks for use on the grill. Can I use the fresh planks or do I have to dry them out first?
