Euthanasia and Ice Cream - Putting Your Dog to Sleep
By Marciano Guerrero

A personal experience in training a Shih Tzu dog reveals the master he learned from his dog, too. Shitzus being contrarians by nature, taught the master to develop a contrarian attitude. Because of that learning experience the owner short-sold Cisco and other dot.com stocks during the dot.com bubble, ending up making millions. As the pooch was being euthanized, he lets the master know that he had internalized his teachings but that he chose to let him know that only at his deathbed.

I cried a lot while I read your article. I have a dog. He is a 5-year-old boston terrier. He is super cute and incredibly smart. We are always together. He is like my son. I sympathize with the story. If I am in the same situation, I would euthanize my boy also. Because I do not want him to feel pain and suffering. I believe that that is my love and my responsibility. I am sure that Pepino is sleeping very peacefully. Wacky Lee

I'm still crying from reading this article. It reminds me so much of a puddle I got as a gift for my 6th birthday in Poland. He was so much like your dog Pepito. He learned the basics very quickly (he gave his paw, laid down, rolled over, barked on command etc.) but he was such a stubborn little thing. In Poland we don't keep the dogs on leashes, they run around freely and nothing ever happens, well almost never. One day he decided to take a longer walk and didn't come back for a whole day until the next evening. I was so angry at my mom because she used to take him out in the evening that I didn't even speak to her. The next day he came back but he was limping. Nothing happened to his leg, he must of just bumped it somewhere. It just shows to prove how independent dogs can be, as well as stubborn. When my dad came to America before, my mom and I, my Pinus (the doggie) didn't eat anything for a whole week. After my mom and I left Poland to join my dad we had to leave him in Poland because of the stupid American rules of not having dogs or cats in the buildings and the money issue. It's sad I never got to see him again because he passed away a couple of years later from stomach poisoning. My aunt took care of him but he became spoiled and didn't run as much as with us. Just thinking about it makes me cry. Dogs are so smart and intuitive, they never forget their owners or what they taught them.

The dogs are mans best friend. They show respect to their owners by loving actions and people to love them in return. They try to learn and follow their owners commands, only asking to be treated nicely. The writer showed much love and compassion to his dog, even had cried over his dog at a difficult time. They loved each other and learned from each other, and shared happiness together. This story touched me.

This story shows the relationship that the master had with his dog. The last part of story about the ice cream makes cry because I remembered my dog, that died when I was a child, that experience was hard for me because it was not easy for me to say goodbye to my dog, so this story remembered a sad episode of my life, but in spite of that was a beautiful story.

I was on the train when I read your story. It made me cry...I was trying very hard to hold it in since the train was crowded...I guess I should have known by the title that it was a sad story. It reminded me of how upset I was when my bird Jake died...he was the best. I am not totally sure what business significance I was supposed to get out of it. You will have to let me know...I'm curious.
