Can't Delete Email in Outlook Express "I received an email recently, with no attachment, and when I tried to open it, my computer froze. Even a ctrl-alt-del wouldn't help. Every time I try to open, or just click on and delete this message my computer freezes. I didn't think it was possible for an email to cause this kind of problem, if there was no attachment. I'm using Outlook Express, and running Windows XP Professional Version, Service Pack 2. I just want to delete this message from my inbox -- I have no idea what is in it and I don't care at this point!" Stranger things have been known to happen to folks using Outlook Express, but I'm sure that's little comfort to you now. Here are some things you can try to remove the offending item from your inbox... [VIEW ARTICLE]Comments RSS Feed For This Article: 2

Subject: can't delete emails in OExpress I have followed your advice and deleted the DBX files (inbox) OE created a new inbox as stated but I still cannot delete any emails using the delete key or by right clicking and selecting delete from the dropdown box does work but isn't very convenient. Any added suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am not "up there" with computer technology but can follow pretty straight forward instructions. Thanks in advance, Regards, Kel. Subject: Can't delete emails in O/Express I have solved the problem. It was corrupted DBX files in the "deleted items folder". I think a previous article by W. Rienke is basically the same as what I did except I had to delete the "deleted items" folder. This is the process that I used. Open Outlook/Express, click on >tools >options >maintainance >store folder. When the store folder appears, copy the address. Click >cancel< to close the previous windows and close outlook express. Click on >start >run and paste the address that you copied into the "open" window. Click OK and your all of your folders will be shown. Delete your "deleted items" folder.(( Remember that all of the deleted items will be lost after doing this so make sure that there are none in there that you may want to retrieve. Move them to another folder if necessary.)) Outlook Express will create a new deleted items folder when it is restarted. When I was having my problem, hitting the "shift & delete" keys together would give me the option to permanently delete the selected message but the message is lost and if you delete a message by mistake,BAD LUCK, it's gone. Hope this helps anyone who is having the same problem as I did, Cheers< kel. Comment provided November 30, 2007 at 4:21 pm

Subject: re can not delete email message
I also had this problem with only 2 emails that I could not do anything with, what I ended up doing was move all othe emails from the in box to a temporary folder, closing outlook express and then going to my computer- c drive - documents and settings - (my) user - local settings (which is a system folder)- application data - Idenities - Microsoft - Outlook express. in this folder are all of the .dbx folders. Delete the inbox.dbx folder. Open Outlook express it will automaticly make a new Inbox folder and you can move the other messages back in.
