Subject: Trying for #2 I was diagnosed with PCOS about 6 months ago. Me and my husband were able to have one healthy baby girl before I ever even found out. So it is possible. But we have been trying for 3 1/2 years now for baby #2. I have been put on a pill called Metformin. Have you heard anything about this and if so does it help? Subject: Yes, women with PCOS do get pregnant Yes, women with PCOS can get pregnant. In fact, according to Dr. Samuel Thatcher (author of a well known PCOS book) the majority of women with PCOS are able to have babies although they may need medical intervention. You can also find information on my web site. Julie Comment provided December 29, 2006 at 2:41 am

Subject: Pregnancy Hello My husband and I have been trying to start a family for 5/6 years. I have recently been put on the Metformin to increase my chances of having a baby. Will this happen if I am just taking that or should I go to the Dr. and take a fertility drug along with it? Comment provided February 23, 2007 at 5:24 pm

Subject: trying to get pregnant Hi, i am 21 years old and was just married in november. I was diagnosed with pcos a year ago and since my marriage me and my husband have been trying to have a baby. I found out that i was 4 weeks pregnant on March 14th of this year and a week later i had a miscarriage. All i ever wanted in life was to be a mom, so as you can imagine this was and still is very devistating...but my husband and i are trying again and hopefully i will be able to conceive again. When i found out i was pregnant i had been off of my glucofage that month but i was working out and my doctor said that is probably how i got pregnant. I m very scared that i wont be able to have a full term pregnancy....does anyone have some advice? Comment provided May 14, 2007 at 2:21 pm

Subject: PCOS--and pregnancy I was diagnosed with PCOS right after I got married about 9 years ago. I tried clomid - no help- then did sfertility shots 2x - no go. Then on my 3rd and final try I did fertility shots and metformin and got pregnant. I have a 16 month old girl and am very greatful for this opportunity I thought I would never get! Unfortunately I have only had 1 period since the birht of my daughter. We were hoping to conceive with baby number 2 naturally. Metformin worked its wonder and helped us get pregnant. I just wanted to share with all of you suffering with PCOS also and let you know it CAN happen. I never thought it would but it did and every day I count my blessings. e-mail me at Tammy_stevenson@csaa.com Comment provided June 10, 2007 at 1:26 pm

Subject: Pregnancy and PCOS I have received several responses from my first posting of PCOS and pregnancy. My heart goes out to all of you and I know your pain and desperation of wanting to have a baby and wondering if you ever will. My daughter will be celebrating her 2nd birthday on valentines day and I just look at her and think how blessed I was to be given her. Thanks to our medical technology I was able to conceive and have a very healthy baby! Good luck to all of you I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. Think positive because what I thought I would never be (a Mother) is the most rewarding gift I have ever been given! She is a miracle! Comment provided February 10, 2008 at 12:32 pm

Subject: Response to Krista Krista, I hope you get this, when you sent me your e-mail there was no e-mail address? Your question of "when should you start trying to have a baby"? That's a tough one, that's different for everybody. What I can tell you is that I'm happy I had my baby later rather than earlier. I'm more grounded with life and am more mature with the decisions I make. Though I have always wanted children ASAP I'm glad I had my daughter when I did. Especially if you are newly married give yourself time to get to know your husband, then once you do get pregnant you already have a solid foundation/marriage to bring your child to and can teach your child what marriage is about. Good luck to you, you can get pregnant with PCOS as I'm living proof and so are many others. I never thought I would and it took a lot to get my baby girl. We will be celebrating her 2nd birthday on valentines day and I count my blessings everyday of her life. Krista writes: I was just diagnosed with PCOS and im 18 years old. Subject: in response to SARAH..... hi I too have PCOS. Diagnosed about 1 year ago. I am on Metformin. I have had 3 miscarriages in my life....the first one at 19years old. It is a heart wrenching experience. Take time to heal from that experience before moving on to the next (trying for another pregnancy). Go to your doctor and get the help you need if any and educate yourself about the risks and such before trying again....or at least while u r trying. I have 3 wonderful children now and I carried them all to full term. Keep the Faith and know that your time will come. Good Luck! ps. prayer doesn't hurt either. Subject: Confused Hello my name is Amanda. I am not sure if I have PCOS but after some research it seems like it is most likely the cause of my problems and my syptoms all coincide. I have been truely blessed with two children, and now that my youngest is turning 8 my husband and I have decided that we would like to have another. I turned 30 this year and having my first two children was difficult. There was no trouble in concieving my daughter, but the pregnancy was very difficult. I was diagnosed with eclampsia at 25 weeks and my daughter was born at 27 weeks,(she is a perfectly healthy 11 year old now),like I said I have been truely blessed. About a year later we decided to concieve again, but it took me about a year to get pregnant. My pregnancy with my son went fine and I had a schedualed c-section that was only moved up about 2 weeks early. About 6 months after I had my son I stopped having periods, it was about 8 months before I had one, and that seems to be about my average now. Some where between every 6 to eight months I have one. I did see some doctors one who told me I was insulin resistant and another whom gave me an IUD, they said to regulate my system so that I did not get hypoplasia, Obviously not as a method of birth control. I went 3 years with no birth control of any kind before the IUD and did not conceive, and now that it is time to have it removed I and my husband would really like to have another child, but we are not sure if it is possible. I guess what I am saying is after all the time and under my current and past cirrcumstances I am confused as to how and where to start and how to go about taking care of this. I would greatly apprechiate any advice any one has to give! Comment provided June 3, 2008 at 11:28 am

Subject: PCOS Hi, I'm 21yo with PCOS, my son Oliver will be three in January. I was diagnosed with PCOS six months after he was born, I've always had an absent period but somehow managed to conceive. Doctors are still stunned on how I did it. I had a WONDERFUL pregnancy minus the 60lbs I gained. Not one problem during my pregnancy I delivered Oliver naturally on January 27th 2006 he weighed 10lbs 1/2 oz and was 21 3/4 inches long. Motherhood is such a awesome experience and he is such a delight to have in my life. I'm scared to have another baby because I was so fortunate with Ollie, after some consideration we've decided if the Lord wants us to have another one he will bless us with one. If not we are always open to adoption. I just wanted to share my story and let every woman with PCOS know that it is possible to have a child. Just let God do his work. :):) Comment provided November 4, 2008 at 12:10 am

Subject: Yes, YOU CAN get pregnant with PCOS Just an update on my article. I highly recommend reading the articles on my web site, a lot of frequently asked questions are answered there. Also, I had a baby girl 7 weeks ago (at age 36). I conceived naturally just a few months after I remarried. I credit her existance to vitex herb. Omega-3 EFA from fish oil, and a low-glycemic index diet. My baby girl is healthy and happy and worth every minute I waited for her. You can see pictures of her at my blog http://www.oneluckymama.com Comment provided November 19, 2008 at 3:47 pm

Subject: Thank You PCOS Lady's Hello Girls. My name Is Brooke and I am turning 20 this year. I was Married at 18 and have recently found out that I have PCOS. I was never very worried about missed periods as a teen (too busy to notice really) but after I got married they stopped all together. We wanted to get me checked out, but thought if God wanted us to have a baby, he would provide. The Fear of not knowing if I will be allowed to have children puts a sense of urgency in my heart and my biological clock. Tonight, I had my first period in nearly a year and a half. It is small, but is a blessing to me. I want to thank all of you for your stories of hope, faith, and encouragement. I will keep all of you in my prayers, keep praying for myself, taking my metformin, and remembering... that all things are possible through Christ who strengthens me. Subject: Is it possible to conceive naturally? I'm 23 and was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 21. As you can imagine it devastated me and still does to this day I am so worried I will never have children. Every late period I have gives me hope that I could be pregnant but never am! I am not on any medication to help conceive as want to try and conceive naturally. Has anyone here ever been lucky enough to conceive naturally or should I give up and go on medication? I find it very hard knowing that it will be harder for me to conceive than women who do not have this condition, however reading some of your stories really does give me hope and make me feel better, your very lucky and truly blessed. This website really has helped me and I thank you all for telling your stories really does give me the hope and strength I need.xx Comment provided February 8, 2009 at 6:55 pm

Subject: Don't give up! I first got my period when I was 11 years old. Since then it has always been very irregular. At 19 I was diagnosed with PCOS. I got married at 23, and we started trying to have a baby about a month after the wedding. We would have waited longer but figured we would have better chances the sooner we tried given my diagnosis. We tried for 5 months on our own with no luck. We then moved on to the crazy world of fertility treatments. Here is how it went: 4 Cycle of Clomid - no luck Had my tubes checked (all clear) 1 Cycle of Clomid with HCG & IUI - no luck 1 Cycle of Clomid with HCG no IUI - no luck 1 Cycle of Follistim injections, Metformin, HCG, IUI, & Progesterone supplements - Luck at last!!! After 1 Year of trying we finally conceived. Then maintaining the pregnancy was the next challenge. I worried the whole way but here I am 2 days before my due date. I can't believe it. It can happen. Subject: PCOS AND PREGNANCY I'm 34 years old and had been diagnosed with PCOS two years ago. I was put on Metformin and it made me feel so bloated, my doctor then prescribed a slow releasing Metformin and that seemed to help. However, I am not good at remembering to take pills. I have not been good about even taking the Metformin, but after reading some of these posts and seeing that you can get pregnant, is really giving me a night perspective. Great posts and if there is any advice you can give me I would love it. My husband and I have been trying for 5 years, so maybe there is hope. Thank you! Comment provided October 5, 2009 at 10:09 pm

Subject: Depression! Hi, I am 27 years old and married for 1.5 years now. I was diagnosed with PCOS a month after marriage, when I missed periods for 2 months. I was also said to have hypothyroidism. I have been on homeopathic treatment since then. I get my periods every month with homeopathic medicine my doctor gives. My husband and I want to start family after 2 years but I get badly depressed at times about my chances of getting pregnant. I am a bit overweight. Will losing weight help? Will I be able to have baby? What should I do? Comment provided November 9, 2009 at 3:15 am

Subject: Re: Depression Yes, losing weight helps a lot with fertility. Even losing as little as 10 percent of your body weight has been shown to boost fertility. Even if you get your period every month, you might not be ovulating. The first thing I would do if I was in your shoes is use ovulation predictor kits to find out if you are ovulating each month. They will also tell you when you are ovulating, so you can plan accordingly. Comment provided November 9, 2009 at 4:12 pm

Subject: PCOS and pregnant 3 times! My husband and I tried for 1.5 years to get pregnant to find out I had PCOS. I was put on clomid and it worked-child number 1. We knew we wanted more and I didn't want to go through all the medication/temperature taking/etc. so we didn't use anything. About a year later along came #2. My periods were somewhat regular after this one and we were using protection at some points. 5 years later we were blessed with #3! Women with PCOS can get pregnant on and off medication. Please keep your hopes up. I will never forget those awful words that came with my diagnosis and still pinch myself when I look about my 3 kids. Comment provided November 22, 2009 at 9:06 pm
