Born With The Moon In Scorpio
By D. Giolitto

According to Astrology, the exact location of the moon during the time of your birth determines your emotional reaction to the world around you. While the astrological sun colors your outwardly aggressive actions, the moon dictates your inner, passive or receptive urges. The moon is your "female energy" - she represents the type of nurturing energy you project, and/or the type of mothering you received as a child. Today we will discuss the Moon in Scorpio.

In my case the intensity of this placement has waned with age and personal growth, meaning I gained a handle on it. The sexual side more fantasy than experience. Add a Libra sun sign or ascendant and injustice drives one to distraction with each new revelation and one refuses to keep their big mouth shut.

I am dating someone who has a moon in scorpio and he is pretty unwilling so far to deal with his emotions honestly, specifically those of anger. Does anyone who either is this sign or anyone else have some advice?

Melanie,

I've had quite a bit of experience dealing with Lunar Scorpios, in terms of friends, loves and even my own Mother.

To be honest with you, you aren't going to have much luck at all convincing a Lunar Scorpio to acknowledge his or her emotions if he or she doesn't want to do it. Scorpio is a fixed sign, very uncomprimising and second only to Taurus in resistence to change. That resistance goes up exponentially when directly challenged.

I've found the best thing you can do is to give them some space and time to work out whatever is troubling them. If you confront your boyfriend about his anger, he'll probably just deny that it exists, though you WILL certainly FEEL otherwise. If he likes you, just being there for him and being supportive of him when he needs you may be the best thing you can do.

Good Luck

I am definitely a true moon scorpion. It is difficult for me to express my deepest feelings unless I really, realllllyyyy think I have developed a connection or the exact opposite...under the guise of anonymity :) . My friends will say that I am brave, fun-loving and usually appear to have no worries but this is the outer fishy Piscean behaviour backed by the Phoenix (I am no pushover). I also have a lot of Aries in my chart and Jupiter is in Scorpio as well. I think that Lunar Scorpios are some of the greatest fighters around. We definitely however need reassurance and have tempers that explode on unsuspecting victims..:) Am I really a Pisces??lol Yeah so, I guess, overall, I like my combination because having a fixed core balances out the muatbility of that ever so fragile Piscean Sun!!!

Wow! I was just running through my article stats when I happened to notice FIVE comments on this article of mine... the most ever out of the 138 articles I have in circulation at this moment.

Nice to see the Scorpio Moon Children communing here on my article. Group hug!?

I once read that there's a crazy karmic link between Scorpio and Taurus (moons count too).

Group hug, indeed. Intriguing article, for sure. Can you elaborate at all about the link you just referenced between Scorpio and Taurus? I'm rather curious about that.

Also, continuing on that theme but in a slightly different direction, my sun is in Taurus and my moon's in Scorpio... Anyone know how polar opposite signs work together (or against each other) if in prominent places in one's chart (particularly, of course, in the case of Taurus-Scorpio and/or sun-moon combos)?

I have a Gemini sun/Scorpio moon combination with a Capricorn asc. and I completely relate with the loving someone one moment -hating them the next yo yo. In my experience, my scorpio moon really isolates me. I feel that I keep people at a distance. Sometimes they will know me for years before I really let them see who I am on the inside. It is, as you said Dina, intense and uncomfortable... especially for my normally sociable Gemini soul. Capricorn is no help either.

Hi Allyson, I'm writing back on the chance you return to this article. :) Have you tried hanging around with more pragmatic and/or earthy personalities? You don't really have to know someone's sign to get a sense that they're down to earth and practical as opposed to emotional. Ever spend time with someone whose "calm" you seem able to absorb? Like the ocean meets the sand kinda thing. ;) Anyway, try not to dwell on discomfort so much. You're not closed off, you're SELECTIVE! You're not a tough nut to crack... you're MYSTERIOUS. It all depends on the spin you put on it. Be proud of your depth and sensitivity!

I always treated the subject as entertainment. Then once upon a time in a place far away, a friend took me to an Indian man who used the Eastern method of astrology (don't ask). It's complex and different from the Western. This total stranger told me I would NOT marry the man I was just about to marry. He was right! Never went to another astrologer.

hello, I'm Gemini sun, Scorpio moon and Libra rising. I have real trouble in relationships with (sometimes violent) mood swings and saying harsh things that hurt the people I'm closest to. I've always been sociable if I feel comfortable, but increasingly I feel awkward around people and distant. I'm scared that I'll never be able to form really close, stable relationships. Is this usual for the above combination? if anyone has had similar experiences they'd like to share or knows if it's possible to stabilise emotions(!), I'd be very grateful. I'm 17 though, will I grow out of it? Thanks, Clare

Dear Clare,

You have a lifetime of experiences ahead of you. Trust me... I'm twice your age and I'm nothing like I was when I was 17. :)

If you feel emotionally unstable, then maybe you can isolate those things in your life that are the source of the problem and change them.

If you want to stop hurting people with your words, then try this:

If you're feeling angry, opt not to have the discussion. Instead, excuse yourself - take some time out to go walking by yourself so you can sort out your feelings. Return later, when your Gemini is back in control. :)

Undo the damage that you did. If you did manage to hurt someone's feelings, either inadvertantly or perhaps knowingly, you can always try to repair the relationship by offering an apology. Share your feelings - but not in an accusatory manner.

Finally - if you have lots of inner turmoil, consider exercising on a regular basis if you don't already. It really helps release the tension.

Dina

I find my emotions to be really intense! Like anything anyone says that's negative, true or not, it hits to the core of me as though I've been struck physically. It's definately intense. I'm usually a serious person but I also love to joke around and laugh. I have my sun in Aries, mars in Capricorn, Venus in Pisces in the 8th house.

And my moon is in the same house as my IC in Scorpio and I'd read somewhere that when this placement happens, it intensifies the emotions of the sign as well as what the house represents.

Subject: Clare / Gemini-Scorpio mix

Clare, I totally agree with what Dina said above. Things will balance out with time. I'm Gemini Rising with Pisces Sun and Scorp Moon. I'm in my early 30's, and my temper is fairly mild now, but I remember being withdrawn and volatile in my late teens. I'd have fits of anger in which I couldn't control the hurtful things I'd say. It was like a speeding train....I just couldn't stop it once it started. Sometimes I'd get physically violent, too, by throwing stuff around (chairs, plates, etc.). For me, a huge change occurred when I realized that there was no need to protect myself so much. Little by little, I developed faith in my ability to handle things, particularly emotional pain. Yes, someone can hurt you temporarily, but the pain goes away sooner than you might think at that particular moment.

One thing that might also help you is to try meditation. I meditate regularly, and find that I'm a lot more aware of my feelings and thoughts than I was in the past. Increased awareness might help you recognize when you need to step away from a potentially explosive situation. I also agree with Dina about the importance of exercise. For people with a strong Gemini influence, I think we particularly need an outlet for all of our nervous energy! I exercise regularly, and god knows I'd be a lot more tense if I didn't.

I am Pisces sun, Scorpio moon, Scorpio rising. Pure water, pure emotion, pure energy. As another Pisces said, the scorpio moon grounds the pisces sun. The duality of the fish took me to the depths of addiction/alcoholism. The strength in the fixed scorpio moon allowed me to overcome that obstacle, and carry that message to others. Becoming aware that I am a natural sensitive/empath and learning to harness these abilities for the betterment of all. Very interesting article...fits me to a T!

I'm really enjoying reading all the comments here... esp the first one from Ed, I laughed when he talked about the combination of scorpio moon with libra. yeah...try scorpio moon plus libra sun PLUS aquarius rising. oh brother.

This combo of libra aquarius scorpio makes for an intense experience of life. i'm eccentric/rebellioius, deeply passionate for justice, and extremely strong-willed. my rebellious streak is tempered by a logical, practical, side. i'm open-minded and intuitive, but sometimes stubborn. full of contradictions!

my main issue: when it comes to my lover and close friends, im 100% present. i have a hard time finding people who are as present in friendship and relationship as i am.

Wonder what combinations would go well with me? my sun is in libra, so a lot of what drives me is finding my life partner, of course....hmm, any thoughts on this?

Very interesting (and accurate) article! I find having a scorpio moon can either be one of my greatest assets or a curse. Having my sun in Aquarius helps me to be more logical about my emotions and not to overreact or be so "black and white", but the scorpio moon keeps me focused and on track with my work and intellectual pursuits, rather than exhibitng my natural Aquarius tendencies to move on the the next thing before I have finished the first.

I find my chart to be very difficult at times in terms of inner struggles and personal relationships. I am in constant battle between feeling extremely intense emotions and having a very detached and observing nature. Relationships are hard because I need a deep emotional attachment but also plenty of space. I cannot open up to someone if I don't trust them and will cut myself off emotionally if they inflict any wounds. But on a positive note, I am fiercely loyal, a great friend, lover and protector, and have no commitment issues.

I find great positive attributes and many faults with both Aquarius and Scorpio. My challenge has been to know when behaving like an Aquarius vs. a Scorpio will benefit me more so that I don't hold myself back from being a good person or achieving my goals.

Frankie.. I would be very interested to read more about your experiences, and if they are similar to mine! I too have a natural connection with animals and children and am definitely in touch with my inner child, more so than any one I know.

I know a Gemini with moon in Scorpio... Talk about contradiction... I mean, he always appears to me as sociable, fun-loving, relax, friendly... calm. Very, very calm... But either I am very good at reading people, or I'm making stuff up because since the first time I saw him I knew that there was more to him than that calm appearance. Later I found out about his Moon in Scorpio... =o He reveals nothing about himself, about his thoughts, speacially not about his personal life. And it wouldn't cross my mind to insist. Apart from that, he is adorable. x]

I am still waiting to see his dark side. o.o

I am a female Aries/Scorpio Moon/Scorpio rising. This is a great, insightful article...I guess I should just stop fighting my bewilderment at my natural inclination to have intense love affairs with intense feelings! My life for a long time was ruled by passion and extremes and felt quite chaotic, possibly even doomed. Then I spent a few years in a "cocoon" of my own making, and emerged with a much clearer idea of how to harness my energy and love the qualities about myself. Through a lot of deep soul-searching, I learned to direct my intensity into a strong sense of discipline and compassion. I'm happy to say that this has resulted in a magical "second act" in my life, and thankfully while I'm still relatively young. But ohhh, the intensity. Thanks for this article.

Hey! this is me too! I could go on and on. but some things I know about me. Secretive but all knowing, afraid to open up until I trust people. I see people acting poorly to each other which makes me retreat further. I feel like I have giant 3rd eye and I want good in the world so I never hurt people back as much as they hurt me I forgive but it makes me take it out on myself and remain somewhat removed from others. I am a peace loving solitary rebel person with very much my own mind. As someone wrote with libra sun/scorp. moon here I feel also like I am always present and do every action with rational thought and for the best of everyone while most people are tuned out and get on tangents. This makes it hard to trust people but also a self development which feels like I am a very genuine person whom does not get swayed by others which i like. I have very deep emotions and am shy which gets on my nerves b/c in my dreams I would losen up and be friends with evryone but the opposite seems to happen. I think the scorp. moon and virgo rising makes me smart that I feel I can take on any academic subject and do well if need be. Overall I often feel very wise and giving but very misunderstood.

Hi Ashish,

It's only disturbing if you choose to be disturbed by it. The best way I know of to "come to terms" with your own character, Scorpio moon or not, astrology believer or non-believer, is to love yourself for all that you are, even what you consider "faults." And of course, have a sense of humor. Life is absurd; just laugh it off.

To all who have asked for sun sign/moon sign feedback; I'm not an astrologer. I'm a writer who would be happy to write websites for astrologists.

You might Google "free astrology chart interpretation" if you want more than what's here.

Thanks for reading!

For me, coming to terms with having a Scorpio moon has a lot to do with not judging my emotions. For myself, I see the experience of having a Scorpio moon as a beautiful opportunity to live life deeply and to grow immensely on a soul level. My ability to experience intense emotions does not only apply to anger, sadness, and the more challenging emotions. It also applies to my ability to love deeply, to feel intense joy, and to experience other positive emotions on a powerful and deeply moving level. Our moon sign does much more than present us with challenges. It also gives us some remarkable gifts. For example, we can use our more intense emotions as a source of understanding and compassion for others.

But my favorite Scorpio moon gift is our ability to transform ourselves on a personal level, like a phoenix rising from the ashes. That's just so beautiful, and it's indicative of our amazing potential for humility, strength, and deep creativity.

Subject: Scorp Moon, Libra Sun, Virgo Ascendant

I read the article and comments with great interest. I am turning 50 this year, and it is just now that I am FINALLY accepting who and what I am.

I think, being a Libra, the intensity of my emotions always overwhelmed me. Especially the bad ones like anger and jealousy and so on. I don't want to be throwing a temper tantrum and regretting it later. So, for a long time it was mad? No, I'm not mad. Jealous? No, never, not me. I only wanted to think pleasant thoughts and feel happy emotions. But that's unrealistic and, as a result of not expressing my emotions I suffered panic attacks and had poor self-esteem and lacked confidence for many, many years...still do to a point, but am learning to move past that stuff.

I've come to realize that just because I feel strongly about something doesn't mean I have to act on it. And I'm learning to allow myself to feel the emotion and acknowledge the pain that I'm going through.

I'm still exceptionally private and no one ever has any idea how strong I feel or how deep my emotions go (or they'd all be running for cover). I still keep people at a distance however, and have never, ever let met someone that I trust enough to let them in. I can't seem to do that. I'm ever optimistic though.

I think that I'm more confident now and understand who I am and what I need in a relationship. I still have no time for superficial people, yet I believe that my Libra sun makes ME appear that way quite often or maybe it's the Virgo ascendent, but I'm told I often appear emotionally aloof and like nothing bothers me. But maybe not. I had a Leo friend say to me not long ago that he didn't think he'd ever want to cross me. He said I wouldn't even have to say a word, just looking at someone with "those" eyes would be like looking down the barrel of a shotgun!!! I thought that was so funny...and I've heard similar things from others.

Anyway, my point...yes I do have one...is that I now embrace who and what I am. I am learning to love the bad stuff about myself as well as the good. And most importantly (at least to me) is to realize that I am not perfect and to stop being so critical and demanding of myself (Virgo again) and give myself the benefit of the doubt like I would anyone else.

I'm so thrilled by this article and how it truly pin-points a scorpio in moon person, down to the point of it being disturbing in a good way.

By having this sign in the moon, I'm not as impulsive (aries) or dreamy like state (pisces) person with the scorpio, cause I feel level headed almost with this placement.

It feels as though for all of us that have this moon sign, we're much more aware of our emotions, even when we don't want to be aware of them and thats why we all stay so under wraps at times, which is good and bad, the latter because when we need to be vocal we pick and choose out battles, which can be a bad thing, but thats probably the pisces in me that is much more willing to be submissive in an argument, unless I'm 200% backing up the material, then I'll speak up.

Also notice that in love affairs, its all or nothing, not "eh" or "I guess", I'm always 100% or not. Which explains why I can commit to something or someone that I feel is worth it, guess thats a true scorpio nature in the moon sign, more so then in the natal sign or ascendent.

It seems to me on top of that its a blessing, because we're all so different and unique and are full of passion with great intensity, but a curse, due to the fact we get so involved in something that its almost possessive or very jealous, but we do keep it on the down low usually its a 50/50 on that one, more so if its someone we love.

I noticed that we are extremely loyal bunch of people too. Family and our close/best friends, we will protect, unless they backstab us, then we'll be plotting their death while we walk to their house carrying a shovel and then asking them where they prefer to get buried, but never let them know the punishment, which is always a secret till it happens, such a true scorpio moon way.
