Everyone likes a sale and a good deal. Of course, so are many afraid of the economy. Fear is the biggest factor in poor performance.

Thank you Diane for your remarks and for reading the article. While fear is often used to cripple the actions of others the right kind of fear can be used to inspire and motivate. Investing should be governed by logic and not emotional fear. The news media seems to add to emotional fear rather than just offer the news. Thanks again for your remarks.

I have heard other experts say the same thing recently. It seems like recently Buffet himself commented that the market was "on sale". I am looking at stocks-- good stocks that have been knocked down severely, especially financials. The trick is figuring out what is a quality stock.

Subject: Quality stocks

Quality stocks are those that have a decreased share value, a regular dividend payment, and one that has a PEGY ratio under 1. PEGY ratio is a measurement that values the share price in relation to a future dollar. For example, if a stocks ratio is .80 then you are buying a future dollar's worth of the share at $0.80. Normally because of inflation you would need $1.03-1.05 today to equal $1 one year from now. If you can buy that future dollar for less than a dollar than you are making a good buy. PEGY ratio measures that value. However, it should be noted that it is a ratio that in part uses current facts in relation to predicted future results. Because it based on unknown facts it carries a level of risk and uncertainty. You can use it to measure the perceived future value of a stock and what you can buy it for today but, as with all investments, you have to consider the risks. Consult your financial advisor or representative for assistance in this respect.
