By Lea Pitts

Should you purchase long term disability insurance? Not if you want to have my experience. Should you always read the very very very fine fine fine print? Well, of course!

Thanks Lea Pitts. I find myself in the same situation and was wondering if it is legal for the long term disability insurance companies to demand reimbursement. I too worked at a school and they never mentioned having to repay any benefits received. It should be illegal. We paid our premiums. I always thought the insurance business was a risky one but seems to me they are the only business that is guaranteed an income and reimbursement of money paid out in claims. How did you get it reduced by 50%? Thanks.

Thanks Lea Pitts. I am amount to go to court to receive my SSI & SSD benefits. I became severely illness while working, and couldn't continue. I'm a single parent with 2 children, and financially I am struggling and facing foreclosure. I found out the insurance company expects my benefits as soon as I win them. I don't agree and don't believe it is legal.Your story helps me be determined to fight to keep money that will help our family survive and keep our home. I think it is a scam and they get away with it because they count on our fear, ignorance of the law and being sick and weak to stand up for ourselves. I don't agree with handing them over what funds are meant to help out our difficult and extreme hardship needs and situation. Hang in there Pam. Lets not give in so easy.
