Subject: Thanks Eric Thank you Eric. As for the movie, "Amadeus," it was entertaining, but it was pure fiction. I believe that in the scene you mentioned, Mozart dismissed Handel as boring. The real Mozart would never had said such a thing. Comment provided October 23, 2009 at 12:55 am

Subject: Bach/ Handel
Thank you for a very informative and well written article!
My love and respect is, and has been, equally divided in three ways between Bach, Handel and Mozart. To single out only one would be like trying to choose between my three children.
I am not a musician, but I have always thought it was obvious that Handel was a big influence on Mozart– especially his vocal works.
So I was a little surprised the other night when I happen to catch the movie, "Amadeus" on TV. There is the scene when Mozart is at a raucous party playing Bach on the keyboard. Someone suggests he play Handel but he dismissed it as being too, "flowery", (or something to the effect).
I should have known better than to trust a Hollywood movie for my musicology!
