Subject: Vacation Rentals VS Hotels

A well thought out article about the pros of choosing vacation rentals for your holiday accommodations. Who can afford expensive hotels in these depressed economic times? I think more and more people are finding out the value of renting a home or condo directly from the owner.

I think you're absolutely right Julie, and with such a choice of quality rentals available these days, the standards are really increasing for holiday makers.

I have to say, I am slightly concerned about the impact of the further currency fluctuations between the Pound against the Euro, and what impact this will have for holiday home owners in Europe, outside of the traditionally popular tourist hubs.

Fingers crossed things start to recover quickly...

Simon, we have the same problem with currency fluctuations between Canada and the US. Just over a year ago our dollar was on par and even slightly above the US $ for a while. We purchased a condo in Maui which was a good move. Since then though, our dollar has been fluctuating as low as 39 cents less that the US $ so it was quite expensive for us living there this Winter. Our dollar is getting a little stronger now and Canadians are still travelling. The reason is that vacation rentals are really catching on and in many cases the money saved with being able to cook your own meals etc. makes up for the difference in the dollar. It is actually the Americans who aren't traveling as much right now. It will be nice to see a turn around in the economy sooner than later!!!
