Subject: Um..Colin, Actually Estrogen Helps Hair Loss

Hey Colin, are you confused, or just playing confused? You say:

-- "Stress is known to produce certain bad hormones, including estrogen. You need to avoid this"--

and

"Many supplements cause the production of estrogen and result in faster hair loss. This includes the popular hair loss supplement flaxseed oil. So avoid taking any supplements that cause estrogen production."--

When in fact the complete opposite is true (and widely known I would point out). Estrogen actually prevents air loss by inhibiting DHT levels. This is why Propecia works, and why one of the more common side effects for Propecia is sometimes estrogen-induced male breast enlargement. Its a surplus of Testosterone that indirectly causes male pattern baldness because it is converted into DHT.

You really should do your research instead of posting irresponsible advice like the articles the above quotes are taken from.

As Cindi Pearce at eHow writes:

"Estrogen is your hair's friend, not an enemy like androgen, a male hormone that promotes hair loss in both women and men. However, if there is an estrogen deficiency, which occurs during peri-menopause and menopause, or if your estrogen levels plummet after giving birth or stopping medication, it will impact your hair."

I would encourage anyone to look up Male Pattern Baldness and DHT at Wikipedia and other places, to find out the truth for themselves instead of listening to this quack/pseudo-specialist.

- Appalled.
