In 1855, when the first artificial plastic was made, it was a great pomp and show. People were really excited to see such a great invention. With advancement in time, this substance, known as plastic gained more development and with time, it became more popular among the people. The most surprising thing was that it could neither burn, neither rot, neither it got wet, and on the whole it was something which could not be destroyed.
Gradually, plastic came into the daily lives of people. We all started using plastic thinking that it neither has the problem to be destroyed nor it is that cheap. Due to its fairly cheap price, people began to use plastic in their daily lives. Plastic began to be used for everything, for chairs, for pens, for compact discs and what not. When it came to be used as a carriage container, in which people started to carry things like vegetables, it turned the whole thing upside down. Plastic, which was a great innovation and was considered a boon to the society, was now proving itself to be a curse to the society. Someone has said it right that "Too much of anything and everything is bad".
The property of this substance to resist all the factors that could destroy things, became the biggest problem for the society later on. Today, it has become a big threat to life. Daily we hear news like cattle eating plastic bags and dying and so on. It is becoming harder and harder to find a place for the correct deposition of this substance and this is the biggest problem of plastics. It is a very big factor causing land pollution. A whole of the coast of an African city has been filled with plastic and now, the sea water is also getting polluted, destroying marine life.
We need to do something to reduce the usage of plastic. Of course, we have to use the resources such as plastic, but simultaneously, we have to think about the environment, to keep it clean and pure, as it was in the 14th century. We need to save our environment and the mother earth.
