If you have customers or clients, odds are some of them have children. Doctors, dentists, therapists...even lawyers and car dealers sometimes meet with new customers who must bring children along for appointments and meetings. And, unless you want bored kids who are no fun to be around, it is important to have age appropriate and entertaining waiting room toys.
Happy Customers Means More Money for You
Although waiting around for a service is a standard part of modern life, that doesn't mean service providers shouldn't go the extra mile to make sure that the waiting period is as painless and hassle free as possible. If your clients go to your offices and find that there are no distractions for whiney, bored, children and the place down the street has a nice variety of waiting room toys and games to choose from; who do you think they'll be visiting next time?
Such a simple gesture not only puts clients in a better mood when they finally make it back to your office (something especially important if your client IS the child); but having a pleasant experience will leave a lasting good impression on the customer about you and your business. The simple fact is: if you have a waiting room, you could more than likely benefit from providing customers with fun waiting room toys for the kids.
Choosing the Right Toys
What waiting room toys should you choose? It seems like such a simple matter; something that you may not have even given a second though. Just run to the store and grab whatever random wait room toys you see, right? Nope. Unless you are a babies only doctor or a dentist who only looks at the molars of teens, you will more often than not be dealing with customers (and the children of customers) of all ages. Your waiting room toys should not only be entertaining, but also appeal to a broad range of age groups and interests.
Waiting area toys should be versatile, sturdy, and something timeless that most children will find appealing. Examples may include things like activity tables, bead mazes, puzzles, and wall activity panels. These toys not only appeal to a broad range of children at once, but they also encourage imagination on the part of the child. This not only keeps kids busy longer during a single visit, but it gives them a reason to want to return. Imagine it: kids who WANT to visit their doctor!
Re-used Vs. Retail
It's tempting for many businesses to find waiting area toys in the local thrift store, for obvious reasons. The toys are cheap, more can be purchased at once, and if something gets broken by a rambunctious child they can be easily replaced. It seems like the perfect solution, but buyer beware. Even at low prices, used toys are often more of a cost in the long run for many reasons. Used waiting room toys from a thrift store or yard sale are often obsolete. New toys and better versions of old favorites are developed all the time. With kids being as picky as they are, why take the chance of wasting money on toys no one will care to play with? Worse still, older toys may have loose or broken parts that you may not notice until a toddler has it lodged in his throat.
It is highly recommended that you buy all waiting room toys for that specific purpose. Many toys meant for the home will not hold up to the amount of traffic that busy waiting areas get and will break quickly. Ensure that you are getting only the best, most current and versatile toys on the market while keeping kids in your wait areas happy.
