The Nintendo Wii - Is This a Life Changing Device?
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

The Nintendo Wii has a very sleek and compact look. The Nintendo Wii, which was officially launched into most markets in 2006 is distinctly different from other gaming systems. While many people point to its wireless controller as its major feature of difference, this is really only the beginning. The Nintendo Wii is also very flexible, and does not simply limit you to playing games. For example, you can view and edit photos taken with a digital camera by inserting the SD card into it and it can also be used the surf the Internet.

The Nintendo Wii uses a two piece controller called the Wiimote and the Nunchuk to interact with the games using motion, gestures, and angles. Other companies have tried using cameras for interaction but have ended up failing due to the lack of support from developers. The Nintendo Wii system comes with 512MB of internal flash memory, which is more than enough for most gamer's game saves. However, if you need to increase the capacity of the Wii's memory then you can purchase an additional SD memory card. The Nintendo Wii is also very flexible, and does not simply limit you to playing games. For example, you can view and edit photos taken with a digital camera by inserting the SD card into it and it can also be used the surf the Internet.

The Nintendo Wii just like any other system has a wide variety of games that reach all kinds of different gamers, maybe even more variety than the other two consoles. But this variety isn't just limited to two distinct markets (there's more than just hardcore & casual). Players might find themselves doing a double-take on the description screen. This motion control enhancement allows anyone to jump in and play while reflecting the actual movements for a more tactical, physical experience. Player 1 will light up on the far left, Player 2 the next over, and so on. The second purpose is to illustrate battery life. Players now have greater control of their whole team instead of just individual players, with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck providing an experience more in-depth than on any other format.

The Nintendo Wii scored some major gains and is now breathing down the Xbox 360's neck. New data shows that in a frame of one week, 310,000 Wii's got new owners - Xbox 360 sold 110,000 units, while PS3 sold only 50,000 units.

Players can use their own Mii characters in the game and play them against their friends' Miis for a more personalized experience. As players improve, their Miis' skill levels will increase, so that they can see exactly how much better they've become. Players can now enjoy the Internet's most popular web based games such as Bejeweled and Solitaire directly through their Wii console, optimized specifically for the Wii Internet Channel -- with no downloads required!

Physical therapists have found the Wii to be a useful tool in rehabilitation following strokes, surgery, broken bones and combat injuries. According to what a physical therapist told USA Today, Wii games use movements similar to those used in traditional physical therapy, but patients get so mentally involved they are often oblivious to the rigor involved. Physical interfaces like Dance Dance Revolution have proven effective in exercise and weight loss regimens, and the wiimote extends active play to many more genres of games, and therefore to more varieties of players. Aside from exercise games, the wiimote's application in serious games is more limited.

The Nintendo Wii has become a personal favorite of mine. By combining pleasure and fitness together we have reached a new point in the Gaming field.
