Dr. Philip P. Roets was born in South Africa where he graduated from the University of Pretoria with a B.S and M.S. degree in Physiology. After receiving his B.S. degree he obtained a position in the Anatomy department of the University of Pretoria. Remaining in Pretoria he left the University and accepted a position as Industrial Hygienist at the South African Iron and Steel Corporation (ISCOR). At ISCOR he successfully competed for a full doctoral scholarship. He used this scholarship to obtain another M.S. degree and a Doctoral degree(Sc.D.) in Industrial Hygiene from the University of Pittsburgh in the USA. On completion of these studies he returned to South Africa and continued working for ISCOR directing their Industrial Hygiene program. Ten years later he accepted a faculty position at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. Three years later he accepted a position as Industrial Hygienist for Bristol-Meyers Squibb Company. He spent 17 years with Bristol-Meyers Squibb in charge of their Industrial Hygiene, Safety and Environmental program. Philip's hobbies have been photography and carving wild birds from wood. He is retired and live in the Coastal Bend of Texas where he spends many hours devoted to these hobbies. His work is often seen in carving competitions, in two art galleries in Texas and in his Etsy shop on the internet. At the time of this biographical scetch he was 72 years old.
