    [News-and-Society:Politics] My Democratic friends are probably seeing that headline above my name and must be asking themselves-what is he smoking-and did he inhale? I have never been a fan of George W. Bush, but I must concede that he rightfully is The Education President.


  • Is Portland School Board Decision Craziness In Reverse?
    [News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] Portland is a mid-sized city, internationally recognized to have a very high quality of life. The decision by the Portland, Maine school board to allow the school's health center to provide emergency contraception to 11-13 year-old women has shown fine lines between sex education and a school board's role in addressing real-life, sexually-related situations---even when the school board might have no role.


  • Sex Education and No Child Left Behind
    [Reference-and-Education] The most obvious impact is that there is less time to teach sex education; emphasis on language arts and mathematics skills and tests has taken class time from all other subjects. I imagine there is less time for sex education taught in public schools in 2007, just as there is less time for recess. We need more of both in our schools.
