  • America - A Tapestry of Lose Ends
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] In the midst of all rhetoric against the Bush Administration, there are still plenty of Americans who see a good man and good leader in George W. Bush. He worked hard to keep his promises to the conservative voters who had placed their trust in him during his now seven years in office.

  • Lethal Battles At Home And Abroad
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] It is clear that the aftermath of September 11, 2001 was a shock to the very fiber of the parchment on which the constitution was penned. America was alarmed by the revelation that this new threat not only threatened us abroad, but it was able to plan, bring the plan to life and execute its scheme right at home, on American soil.

  • Just Cause to Invade Iraq
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] We have seen our country taken into a war that has forever changed the way we think and live. The attack on the World Trade Center Towers and the Pentagon turned out to be a seminal moment in the way America lives, travels, fights and endures as a nation in much the same way as Pearl Harbor thrust the United States into the Second World War.

  • The Slippery Slope Of Same Sex Marriage
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] Today, the cultural battle now rocking America concerning marriage and the right of homosexual males and females to have recognition of same-sex marriages is considered by many to be a virtual attack on civilization as we know it. Today, thirty-seven states and the federal government have laws that refuse to recognize gay marriages.

  • Inside Saddam's Iraq - My Journey Into Pre-Invasion Iraq
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] Nothing can express the feelings of excitement and trepidation that being in Saddam Hussein's Iraq brings to the heart. Here in the Northern section of the country, what is unofficially, one of the capitals of Kurdistan, one senses how grueling a life this oil-rich country had imposed upon its impoverished people. Just getting here and finding a "safe" way into the country was a challenge all its own. Getting out will be no less stimulating.

  • Brothers at War - Part Three - Inside Ramallah
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] Plato wisely said, "Only the dead have seen an end of war." Waiting to enter Ramallah at the Qualandiya checkpoint told me that I was very much alive. War was all around me, at least the remains of a war that had taken a breather giving me time to get in and to get back out. Yet, walking up to a soldier in full battlefield gear without being nervous is impossible. I found that the best approach was complete honesty. When my turn came, I produced my passport with a picture that no longer looked like me to the soldier standing guard at the Qualandiya checkpoint. It looked official enough, I thought. I turned out to be right and entered without difficulty. I entered the city of Ramallah wondering if all the humiliation was needed.

  • Brothers at War - Part Two, The Heartlessness of Terrorism
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] The morning was as sunny and hot as the evening was cool and breezy, but the day started and the other ended the same way, with death. I had risen at 7:30 AM and went to contribute to my caffeine addiction. Though I found no coffee, at around 8:15 AM, no less than 15 minutes later, I saw ambulances and police vehicles racing down King David Street towards Gilo, on the road to Bethlehem. I had planned to go to Bethlehem at 11:00Am. I ran into the King David Hotel and learned of the deadly bus bombing that had just killed seven children and 12 adults. So, I hailed down a taxi and headed towards bedlam.

  • Brothers at War - Part One - A First-Hand View of Jacob's Trouble
[News-and-Society:Politics] The trip had been planned quickly. I had witnessed the conflict in the Holy Land long enough on TV. I had to see this tiny but very significant country whose actions could cause the world to tremble. I had to write about it and see it for myself. It had come to me as one of those things that I just could not refuse.

  • Iran - The Root Of World Wide Terror
[News-and-Society:Politics] There are some stark days ahead for the United States and the Bush Administration in its efforts to stop the Islamic Republic of Iran from developing nuclear weapons. There is an intrinsic need to deal with Iran which is in the process of building a nuclear reactor and enriching uranium that it says would be used for its energy needs. Now we see that this nation has been thrust upon the world stage and is now at the center of international debate regarding its nuclear ambitions. Therefore, it is only logical that we should take a look at whether this fanatical Shiite state should be allowed to possess such technology. Does a land that is sitting on a sea of oil really have energy needs that could not be met by its massive reserve of crude? Would it be wise to trust the nation that launched the present wave of terror through out the world in 1979 with a nuclear arsenal? Can we continue to work closely with any nation such as Russia that would help Iran to achieve this goal? These are questions that must be answered.
