- Hello? Are You There?
[Business:Customer-Service] In recent years I have come to notice that nobody can return a phone call and this bothers me. With all the different means of communicating at our disposal; why can't a simple phone call be placed at the designated time? Are we really that busy?
- The Surprise
[Arts-and-Entertainment] I am sitting at the restaurant bar enjoying a few glasses of wine celebrating (silently) that this contract is over and I will never again set foot in such a disgusting establishment. While drinking and making small talk with some of the regulars (who are very nice and quite knowledgeable about food) my cell rings; it is my fiancee, Molly. I excuse myself and walk outside, light up a cigarette and press the talk button.
- Change of Heart
[Arts-and-Entertainment] I went with my friend to the veterinarian so that my feline nephew, Shadow, could get his checkup. After signing in and filling out the paperwork, they were called back for the exam and I sat in the waiting room and started looking around. What I discovered prompted me into writing this story.
- Discovering the Past
[Self-Improvement:Inspirational] 12:50AM Sunday morning and I am sitting here writing. I have just finished reading two stories that were written a while back. One was written by me and submitted by my ex-wife as her own work, for which she won a writing contest.
- The Spirit of Christmas Past
[Home-and-Family:Holidays] I'm sitting in our tiny (but cozy) Brooklyn apartment typing because, once again, I cannot sleep. My fiance has finally convinced me to write about an event this past Christmas; one, that I must admit, was rather cool.
- Mothers Nature's Way
[Self-Improvement:Happiness] A clap of thunder vibrates the windows as lighting dances across the darkness and turns the room blue, as though someone has taken a photo. Summer in Washington D.C. has begun. A morning that starts with plenty of sun soon offers a glimpse of the forthcoming brutal afternoon heat, which will choke you with humidity, and finally will give way to evening thunderstorms.
- My Cold
[Health-and-Fitness:Home-Health-Care] I am involved in a battle; not of mind or spirit, but body. I have a cold. This viral phantasm has entrenched itself into the deep recesses of my body and, I believe, set up a community complete with apartments, strip malls and Chinese take-out.
- Unexpected Actions
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] As I sit here writing, I am trying to understand and come to terms with the human race and its complete disrespect for others; we have become a nation of rude thoughtless people. The following incident drove this statement home.
- A New Me
[Health-and-Fitness] My friend sent a few pictures of me at the beach and I was mortified when I saw them. I am fat! No way to ignore it. My stomach is huge. The rest of me looked proportionate, but my stomach (beer gut) had to go. "Where do I start?" I asked myself.
- Next Patient Please
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] At 9:02 AM I walked through the office door of the orthopedic surgeon for my scheduled 9:30AM appointment. Arriving early only ensured that the inevitable paperwork would be filled out, copies of my insurance card made and I could then wait an extra twenty minutes past my scheduled time. As we are all aware, doctors are ...
- A Veterans Day Memory
[News-and-Society:Military] A man relates a story about his brother death. I was sitting in an airport bar watching television and enjoying my typical pre-flight beverage, a vodka tonic with a lime, when a rough looking gentleman with a long pony tail sat down beside me. After ordering his drink (a really large beer) he turned to me asked me where I was flying.
- Releasing The Emotional Pain
[Relationships:Divorce] Once the initial shock of my divorce wore off, that is when the emotions wreaked havoc upon my heart and soul and very being. The questions came at a rapid pace through my mind and demanded an immediate answer.
- The Infidelity Of Marriage
[Relationships:Affairs] A wifes affair ends a marriage. A few weeks back, my wife decided that it was time to end our two year marriage and move back to Arizona. This news, although hard to except, was not really a surprise. We had been having problems for quite some time. Our brief marriage started out with the best of intentions, as they all do, but soon began heading down the path to ruin.
- The Death Of My Heart
[Self-Improvement:Grief-Loss] Well, that is it. It is done. The heart monitor has flat lined and the respirator is sounding the end of another life, for all to hear. Now, what lies before me is the shell of the most precious and beautiful woman I have ever known. Her color is still pinkish and her skin warm and supple. Her bobbed brunette hair lay gently around her shoulders and her eyes are closed. She is now, asleep, and will never awake. Her pain and suffering have ended and she may now be at peace.
- The Heartbreak Of Divorce
[Relationships:Divorce] It happened overnight. One day we were fine and the next, it was all gone. Let's start from the beginning.
- A Day At The Bank
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] I walked into a bank the other day and inquired about opening a checking and savings account with this particular institution. This was brought about by my old financial establishment's continual hidden charges that always, one way or another; seemed to bilk me out of a few bucks every month. Upon signing in, I was instructed to have a seat in a pleasant outer office waiting area decorated with soft pastels, struggling artist type landscape paintings, free gourmet coffee and a television set on a repeat cycle praising this fine establishments reputation. So far, we were off to a good start. That was about to change.
- Where Is God Really?
[Self-Improvement:Spirituality] A light fog crawls slowly across a serene crystal blue lake. Majestic snow-capped mountain peaks offer the perfect backdrop. Let's not forget the fall leaves with their brilliant colors illuminating in the foreground all while a single sunbeam penetrates the whole. This is where God must exist, for no other domain would suffice. This beauty and all the peace it provides would not dare mock what He created. This is where one will find heaven upon earth.
- A Mothers Day Remembrance
[Home-and-Family:Holidays] A look back at growing up with food.
