- Freelance Writing Success
[Home-Based-Business] Decades ago, being a freelance writer meant working as a free agent in a particular genre of writing. A freelance writer may have worked as a sub-contractor for newspapers, magazines, or another, rather specific, field. Today's freelance writing is far removed from that of the past. We're still free agents, or sub-contractors, if you will, but we're actually required to produce a somewhat different product than we once were.
- Freelancing Doesn't Mean Free
[Writing-and-Speaking:Writing] One of the biggest challenges facing freelance writers today, especially those of us who provide our services online, is outsourcing. Although a global economy is certainly down the road, for now, there are Western workers and non-Western workers. What I mean is that an economy is not competitive if the wages required to live in one economy are vastly different from those required to live in another.
- Ohioans For Financial Freedom
[News-and-Society:Politics] The only thing missing from payday lenders' repertoire is a big guy named Vinnie threatening to break the fingers or kneecaps of non-paying customers. Of course, for people who have no other options, even usury is a feasible, if not altogether welcome, alternative. But, gee, Farmer Joe, why not tell the truth and give Ohioans all the information they need to decide if they'd rather borrow money at 391% or at 28%?
- Smooth Move Jesse Jackson
[News-and-Society:Politics] Jesse Jackson and Obama approach black politics from very different angles. Jackson has always attempted to rally the troops to action with inflammatory words and combative beliefs. His blame-it-on-the-white-guy politics have never been effective as his failed presidential bids have proved.
- Disdain McCain - Body Language and Verbal References Give You Away
[News-and-Society:Politics] McCain's treatment of Obama has been at best, rude, and, at worst, unbecoming of a man who seeks this nation's highest office. It's almost as if McCain's opinion of Obama is so low that he can't be bothered to address him. This is a problem for someone in politics, since politicians often have to deal with people they don't like - heck, people they can't stand.
- Transnational Gangs - How Does Immigration Facilitate the International Spread of Gang Activity?
[News-and-Society:Crime] Globalization has resulted in a number of modern phenomena, both positive and negative. As gang-related activity is known to occur as a result of the disenfranchisement of a particular group of individuals, the global disenfranchisement of particular groups of individuals is likely to result in the proliferation of international gang activity. Such activity can be evidenced in the spread of terrorist organizations such as Al Qaeda. Some of the international members of Al Qaeda have been solicited and others have joined the organization without any group invitation.
- Why Can't Kids Write "Rite"?
[Reference-and-Education] The quality of the education that our children receive depends on the quality of the individuals who provide that education. If a teacher can't be bothered to facilitate a quality educational experience for every child, they should find another profession.
- Fair is a Place
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] Kids are always whining about how unfair life is. When I was growing up, I was told that "fair is a place where men go to throw cow pats to win prizes". I've also heard "fare is what people pay to ride the bus". Either way, the point is that life just isn't fair; at least not in the way we'd like it to be.
- Stop Smoking Now!
[Health-and-Fitness:Quit-Smoking] May 17, 1999. That's the date I stopped smoking. I've got the date programmed into my calendar as an anniversary to celebrate. And every year on May 17, 1999, I give myself a pat on the back and sing my own praises to anyone and everyone who will listen. Why? Because, as many people know all too well, it's darned hard to stop smoking!
- Wherever Two Or More Are Gathered
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] Driving to pick up my son from a friend's house this afternoon, I saw a group of men gathered in a yard. These men had fashioned a couple of small ramps out of plywood and some other odds and ends. The ramps were facing each other. At the time I was driving by, the men appeared to be standing around discussing how to utilize their creations. I saw this and I was reminded that wherever two or more are gathered... there's bound to be trouble.
- What is Plastic Surgery?
[Womens-Interests:Cosmetic-Surgery] The term Plastic Surgery originated from the Greek word plastikos, which means to mold. Although primitive plastic surgery techniques have been uncovered as far back as the time of the ancient Egyptian civilization, modern plastic surgery owes its dedication as a specialty to the reconstructive needs of disfigured soldiers during the wars of the twentieth century.
- Plastic Surgery - Because Nobody's Perfect
[Womens-Interests:Cosmetic-Surgery] From breast augmentation to facial enhancement, Americans are seeking bodily perfection in record numbers. And why not? If you've got it, flaunt it, right? And if you weren't born with it, what's wrong with acquiring it along the way?
- The Eco-Labeling Regulation of 1992
[News-and-Society:Environmental] Since its inception in 1999, thirteen European countries have adopted the Euro as their national currency. In another well-discussed move that attempts to bond a common European market, the European Union, in the early 90's, and prior to the adoption of the Euro, implemented the Eco-Labeling Regulation. This 1992 agreement states that member countries will implement a cohesive system of labeling ecologically friendly products and services in order to encourage a continent-wide, and possibly an eventual worldwide, definition of what is to be considered good for the future of the environment.
- Biological Altruism - Are We Hard-Wired to Act in a Socially Caring Manner Or to Seek Personal Gain
[Self-Improvement] There exists a current debate over whether behaving in a socially caring manner, or social altruism, is a learned behavior or whether human beings are hard wired, or genetically predisposed, to behave in such a way. There are surely rational arguments for each side. However, some studies indicate that altruism is indeed hard wired into the human brain as well as the brains of several other species. In essence, humans can't help the urge to help.
- Child Custody in Ohio
[Relationships:Post-Divorce] Parents who cannot come to a joint decision regarding custody and child support issues as a part of their divorce or dissolution must leave these decisions up to the court. Ohio courts will award shared or sole custody according to a set of pertinent factors. The court considers the best interests of the child when reaching its decision.
- Ohio Divorce - When Dissolution is Not an Option
[Legal] Although the easiest way to obtain a divorce in Ohio is for both parties to agree to a dissolution, many couples find that they cannot come to an agreement on how to divide everything equitably down the middle. Before fighting over assets and possessions for months or years, it is important to know that Ohio is an equitable division state. This means that everything acquired during the marriage is equally owned, but any assets that either of the parties brought into the marriage belong to that individual only.
- Dissolution in Ohio
[Relationships:Divorce] A dissolution is a simplified way to file for a divorce. To qualify to file for divorce or dissolution in Ohio, the petitioner(s) must have been a resident of Ohio for at least six months and a resident of the county in which they file for a minimum of 90 days before filing their petition.

[Womens-Interests:Cosmetic-Surgery] So, you're thinking about breast augmentation? There are certainly a lot of things to consider before you take the plunge. Ultimately, your final breast size will be determined by the limitations of your body, but you will want to do some research into what makes you most comfortable.
- Can You Avoid Foreclosure?
[Real-Estate:Foreclosures] Sure, you didn't think when you signed your mortgage papers that you'd ever be in the position where you might lose your home. But, sometimes life throws curves that we don't anticipate and we find ourselves swamped with unexpected medical bills, out of a job, or faced with the income shattering consequences of divorce. There's usually very little standing between the average homeowner and their worst nightmare - foreclosure. There are however, several things that you can do to avoid losing your home. And with planning and perseverance, you should be able to make it through even the toughest financial crisis and still keep your home.
- Aging Across the Generations
[Home-and-Family:Baby-Boomer] As an entire generation of baby boomers ages, this unique demographic draws attention to aging in general just as it drew attention to the concept of generation merely due to the sheer size of the generational cohort. Because generation x and generation y are certainly far too young to be considered in terms of aging, the study of aging across the generations, in order to produce conclusions that are adequate, must entail baby boomers and those that came before.
- What Exactly is Employee Engagement?
[Business:Human-Resources] One of the latest catch phrases recognized in Human Resources circles is the term Employee Engagement. As interesting as the term is, few HR professionals actually know what it is or what it entails - only that it seems to be important.
- Treating and Managing Candidiasis
[Health-and-Fitness:Diseases] The theory behind the control of Candida is that the system must be cleansed of harmful bacteria and an environbacteria must be maintained. Recent research has uncovered exciting news about the treatment of Candida and this may mean that a cure for Candida may be found in the near future. For now, however, we are left with the standard treatments that, if adhered to, can bring much-needed relief. Standard treatments include prescription medications, natural and herbal remedies, and dietary therapies.

- Contracting Candidiasis - Candida Yeast Infections
[Health-and-Fitness:Womens-Issues] The environment that maintains the delicate balance of bacteria in our bodies is easily upset. Generally, the different types of bacteria in the body compete with each other and thereby keep each other in check. However, there are many factors that can upset that balance and cause an overgrowth of Candida. Once growth rages unchecked, Candida changes form and becomes its own opportunistic infection.
- What is Candidiasis?
[Health-and-Fitness:Womens-Issues] Candida albicans is a common human organism that lives in the mouth and digestive tract of about eighty percent of human beings. This fungus is normally harmless but when it grows out of control, and the system becomes unbalanced, it is responsible for the common oral infection known as thrush and common vaginal yeast infections in women. The overgrowth of Candida albicans is known as Candidiasis.
- Public School Safety
[Reference-and-Education] The recent rash of college campus shootings has overshadowed the ongoing violence that has become an unwelcome addition to the nation's primary, intermediate, and secondary classrooms. In some urban areas, violence in schools is so common that children have become somewhat desensitized to its presence and may no longer view violence as something that should actually be rare within the educational environment. This speaks volumes about our public school system, but the problem may be even worse than imagined.

- The Economic Ascendancy of China - China as a Major Player in World Economics
[News-and-Society:Economics] China has experienced unparalleled economic growth within the last two decades. However, this growth has been questioned by some experts and has worried other Asian nations. China has a decidedly larger share of foreign investment funds than its neighbors. Still, some experts predict that the general political instability of the region may well be the downfall of China's economic growth as these experts wonder how long such growth can be sustained especially to the disadvantage of the rest of the area.
- The Abortion Debate in Jamaica
[News-and-Society:International] Abortion is a felony crime in Jamaica. Anyone found guilty of self-inducing an abortion, or assisting someone in getting an abortion may be subject to life in prison. Even with penalties this steep, Jamaican women are risking imprisonment and sometimes even death in order to end an unwanted pregnancy.
- Saving Money on a Budget
[Finance:Budgeting] There are many people who insist that they just don't earn enough money to manage to save any money. Although this is sometimes terribly true, the reality is that most of us are spending our savings on such items as fast food, movie theaters, and other non-necessary items. Even the tightest budgets usually have enough wiggle room for a small savings opportunity.
- Budgeting For the Financially Challenged Individual

- The Politics of Same Sex Marriage
[Relationships:Gay-Lesbian] The Random House Unabridged Dictionary defines marriage as "the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc." This definition reflects the current predominating political and moral consensus regarding the state of marriage; particularly that marriage is an institution reserved for opposite-sex couples and that the marriage contract cannot, by definition, be entered into by same-sex couples.
