Cholesterol is a waxy, fatty substance that naturally exists in our blood. A certain level of cholesterol is normal. The amount of cholesterol that we need to function properly is naturally produced inside of our bodies. Too much cholesterol can build up in our blood vessels and lead to heart disease (hardening of the arteries) and may even lead to a heart attack.
