- Dressing With Confidence at 40
[Shopping-and-Product-Reviews:Fashion-Style] Turning 40 does not mean suddenly becoming old fashioned and frumpy. On the contrary...nowadays the 40's are the old 30's! I think 40 is the best possible age for a woman, an age when she feels confident and has got enough experience to know what suits her and to understand her body. It is an age when, if dressed appropriately, she can look sexy without inhibitions providing she never tries to dress like 'a lamb' and always escapes from vulgarity. A 40 year old lady must understand she is not 20 any longer and must dress accordingly.
- How to Make the Most of the Sales
[Shopping-and-Product-Reviews:Fashion-Style] The sales are everywhere, generous and desperate! They started well before Christmas and are now well and truly displaying signs of despair. I believe we will all shortly get paid to take stock away from retailers' hands. Anyway, we should all make the most of it as I do not think that next year's bargains will be as good: surviving shops will certainly not keep as much stock and will be trying to get full prices for their goods.
- The Sexy Little Black Dress
[Shopping-and-Product-Reviews:Fashion-Style] No better time to look sexy than when wearing a clever little black number! No need to think you have to bare it all or reveal too much... You can find the right dress, which will see you through all sorts of parties... But beware, and take it from a French woman: sexy does not mean vulgar! Nothing worse than vulgarity!
- Adoption - Heads Or Tales?
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] The stars do not know what do to attract attention...they are now parading in the People magazines armed with their new fashion accessory, a baby adopted from overseas. Their latest mascot comes from Asia or Africa and appears from nowhere one day, as if plucked from a supermarket shelf. From Hollywood to London via Paris, our idols are going one step further and proudly showing off by flaunting their humanitarian action on the front page of the gossip magazines found in hairdressers' salons.
- The Perfect Gift For Her This Christmas
[Shopping-and-Product-Reviews:Gifts] Christmas is suddenly around the corner and, despite the credit blues, most of us are going to try to provide our loved ones with the perfect gift, whilst at the same time respecting an individual budget. Women always find it easier to buy their man a present than the other way around, although actually the choice of presents for us ladies is endless. Let me give the gentleman, a few ideas, whilst respecting the style personality of the special woman in his life!
- London - An Amazing Cultural and Social Melting Pot
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] When you arrive in London, the most striking thing is the extraordinary diversity in this bubbly city. Like an airport, this architecturally varied capital is a melting pot where people from six continents are mingling with each other, where all religions are respected and where wide social differences cohabit in a calm and dignified way.
- Are We What We Wear?
[Shopping-and-Product-Reviews:Fashion-Style] "L'habit ne fait pas le moine"...This is a French proverb meaning literally the clothing does not make the monk ("you can't judge a book by its cover"). I have been considering this phrase for many years now and have come to the conclusion that one can agree or disagree with it, depending on the interpretation one wants to give it.
- How Do French Women Do It?
[Health-and-Fitness:Beauty] I was in Bordeaux the other day, one of the smartest French cities, sipping up a cup of coffee on a sunny terrace and watching the world go by. Every time I go down there, I have the sensation of being a spectator at a fashion show. Everyone looks so smart! How do they do it?
- How to Beat the Credit Blues - Or Greens, Or Reds, Or Oranges!
[Health-and-Fitness:Beauty] The last few months have seen a big change in attitude towards spending. The shops are looking pretty empty and the high street a bit gloomy. M&S and John Lewis' results were announced last week and were on the down curve. The cost of living has risen for all of us, electricity, gas, oil bills have gone through the roof...So, we now have to make do with what is in our closet, not always easy for us ladies, "who have nothing to wear!" So, we have to call upon our imagination and try to find ways to update our clothes without spending an arm and a leg.
- House of Cards
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] Since my last article, the financial world seems to have become apocalyptic. In the last few days, the world of money has suffered from cardiac failure. Banks are failing us, some have already rejoined Neptune in the abyss and others are in the firing line. Last week, financial systems, on the edge of a precipice, have been saved by the central banks. Was this an emergency measure or an action dictated by despair?
- A Passion For Shoes
[Health-and-Fitness:Beauty] I have a real problem: I am addicted to shoes! They attract me like a drug and stare at me from behind shop windows in a way I cannot resist! From a very early age, I have been obsessed with this small but crucial part of a woman's wardrobe and have collected them over the years. I even got paid, a long time ago, in pairs of shoes for services rendered to my parents! They have also become a commodity I use frequently to measure inflation or exchange rates!!! My husband calls me Imelda Marcos...a reference I could do without. They come in all sorts and in every colour in my wardrobe, but also as sculptures or decorative antique ones lost in a corner of a room and I have a large selection of books on the subject. Friends always send me cards depicting my favourite leather goods. So what is my problem?
- Style Advice For the Multitasking Woman
[Health-and-Fitness:Beauty] Most of us, ladies, will know the meaning of multitasking! From walking the kids to school, to exercising the dog in a muddy park, attending meetings at work, having to cook supper for the family or accompany our husband to a corporate event, we all wish we had more hours in one day to fulfill our duties! And more than one outfit in our bag to dress appropriately for each occasion...
- Wear Jeans Your Way
[Health-and-Fitness:Beauty] I am a great fan of jeans...they are so versatile, and can be dressed up or down according to the occasion or one's personality. I find that they are the number 1 item of clothing to cater for the British weather, so changeable. You can practically wear them for any occasion, apart, of course, in a formal work environment or a smart evening event. Nowadays, they come in all styles, shapes, colours and some designers add a creative touch to make them even more special. If you are going to wear your denims this season, here are 3 essential purchases to make whilst respecting your style personality.
- The Wall Street Hangover
[Finance] The Wall Street Hangover 9th September 08 I live in a city where "Money Money Money" is the human's diesel...Furthermore, I have been linked, through marriage, to the financial world for the last sixteen years and I live in an area favoured by bankers and economists of all sorts due to its practicality. I have, for a while, been acquainted with the greyness of the City, taken part in corporate evenings and events, and yawned in silence seated on the right of one or two financial men from another century! Markets, capital, inflation, credit, shares, bonds etc...are words which dine at my table on a regular basis, and that have become even more popular with the credit crunch. Newspapers are getting carried away, the BBC is creating a stir, banks are panicking and the sky is even more grey then usual...But are we at all surprised?
