- The First Black-American US President
[News-and-Society] At 64 years of age in 2009, I thought I would never see the day in my lifetime, when there would be an Black-American U.S. President of the United States. I think politicians and American's all over the country, have been amazed as to how Barrack Obama did it, and how he raised so much money in doing so. How and why did Hillary Clinton lose? An brief analysis of the election follows...for whatever it's worth.
- You Can Defend Yourself With Good Writing
[Writing-and-Speaking:Writing] "I appreciate the confidence with which you have approached me." Those are words of Senator Pete Domenici of New Mexico, who has been in the U.S. Senate for over 36 years and retired at the end of 2008, because of a brain disease. In this piece, I have a couple examples of how I defend myself with my confidence in writing, etc.

[Health-and-Fitness:Depression] During my working career, I have never been fired from a job, for poor attendance; attitude problems or anything else. - The Seriousness of Depression
[Health-and-Fitness:Depression] I think it's fair to say, that most people have suffered from "the blues," once in a while. That awful "down" feeling which may last for a few hours - a few days - a few weeks or longer! Like most people, I had heard about depression, but I didn't know how serious it is, until I went to the Internet and educated myself. What I found was shocking to me!
- The Assassination of a President! (1963)
[Reference-and-Education] In 1963, I was 18 years old, and had just graduated from high school. Later in the year, I enrolled in college and was a freshman at Highlands University at Las Vegas, New Mexico. (USA) What was I doing when President Kennedy was shot? I can remember it all like it all happened yesterday!
- Don't Golf My Way
[Recreation-and-Sports:Golf] Unlike football, basketball, baseball, hockey and soccer - golf is a game of well-mannered people and etiquette. There are no brawls on the golf course; no head-butts against other golfers; no salty language; no punching out the camera people; no spitting chew all over the golf course; no assaults on others; no drunks out of control; no in-your-face arguments; no bottle-throwing! What? That's UnAmerican...what kind of game is golf, anyway?

[Travel-and-Leisure:Aviation-Airplanes] Billed as the most photographed...and most attended event in the world...the International Hot-Air Balloon Fiesta, usually has about 700-800 balloonists participate from all over the world! And, hundreds of thousands of people visit each year to see this amazing event! Truly, a feast for the eyes...
- Auto Racing - Ladies - Start Your Engines!

- The Negative Side of Humor
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] A few years ago, I was writing this article on negative humor, and I told a woman by email, that I was working on it. I don't know which cave this woman was living in, but negative humor in the United States and around the world, is alive and well, and has been around since the Stone Age, etc.
- Sabrina - Another Smoking Casualty!
[Health-and-Fitness:Quit-Smoking] Just because you quit smoking doesn't, necessarily, mean that you're out of the woods, etc. A heavy smoker for over 15 years, Sabrina (38 years old), died after she quit smoking, and left a 14 year old and a new husband behind! A sad story, indeed!

- It's a Matter of Survival
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] Who would have thought, that in the year 2008, greed would have played such an important role in all of our lives, etc. American's are having a hard time because of it!
- In 1961 I Got My Driver's License - Sort Of
[Self-Improvement:Success] The year was 1961, and I was a skinny, little 16 year old, with big ears and not much sense...and I was ready to get out on the highways of America and start driving! You'll never guess what happened when I went to take my road test at the Motor Vehicle Department! You'll never guess!

- Creativity - Don't Let Those Ideas Get Away
[Self-Improvement:Creativity] Ideas don't grow on trees, and when you get one, you want to take it all the way to conclusion of your project, right? Ideas come and go as they please, and sometimes they don't come around for weeks or months! Case in point.
- The Silent Killer! (High Blood Pressure)
[Health-and-Fitness:Heart-Disease] I heard a report recently, in the news, that said that about one-third of adults in the United States, don't even know they have high blood pressure...and this makes them excellent candidates for a heart attack! There are no symptoms with high blood pressure, and that's why it's called the SILENT KILLER!
- Play Hooky and You'll Miss Out!

- Creativity - Calisthenics For The Brain
[Self-Improvement:Creativity] I've always admired small business people. They work their butts off for many years, to grow and maintain their business, etc. It's either "feast of famine" for them, and it's time consuming. They usually don't have time for hobbies, sports or travel, etc.

[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] All of us have to deal with the people of HATE everyday! It's simple...and doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand...kids are taught to hate, by those people around them! I like to refer to these people as the "little minds of the world!"
- Why I'm Reluctant To Call Myself a Humor Writer
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] I've been in the humor business for over 40 years, and I have plenty of "egg on my face," and I've eaten plenty of "crow" to show for it! I never get tired of putting a smile on somebody's face, and I've done it countless times over the years! (YAWN!)
- I Know What It's Like To Be Homeless!
[Self-Improvement:Self-Esteem] FORECLOSURE! I think one of American's greatest fears, is to be homeless! And, with today's (2008) turmoil in the mortgage market, there are millions of foreclosures all across the nation!
- Get Inspired - Get Motivated - Get Going!
[Health-and-Fitness:Anti-Aging] Is life passing you by? One day, you're 25 years old, and feeling your oats, and the next day, you're 65 years old, and preparing to enter the Old Folks Home! Where did the time go?
- Winners Are Never Quitters - And Quitters Are Never Winners!
[Self-Improvement:Positive-Attitude] I'm a very competitive person, and I don't like to lose at anything... checkers; ping-pong; golf; basketball; cards, etc. If I lose, you're going to have to beat me, and it won't be easy! I don't like to lose in the game of life, either!
- Humor Has Been My Life's Calling!
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] I have been in the humor business for over 50 years, and I never get tired of putting a smile on somebody's face. "They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel." Carl W. Bucher
- "Felix Navidar" (Merry Christmas)
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] I've been in the humor business for over 50 years, and over the years, people have told me, that I should have been a stand-up comedian. But, that's not possible, because I suffer from what millions of Americans suffer from... stage fright!
- It's Easy to Recycle! (Come on, Pitch In!)
[News-and-Society:Environmental] Over the past seven years, I've never thrown newspapers away, but instead, I save them up, and drop them off at the recyling center three times a year, along with my other "stuff!" Every time I go to the recycling center, I see others dropping off their cans, bottles, cardboard, glass, etc.
- SOS - Water Conservation is Everybody's Business!
[News-and-Society:Environmental] November 2, 2007. Headline reads, "Tennessee Town Runs Out of Water!" Because of the severe drought that has plagued the southeastern part of the United States, the small town of Orme, Tennessee, began to ration water, and would turn on the water supply for only three hours a day!
- Dealing With Pig-Headed People! (Oink-Oink!)
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] My way or the highway! How many times have we all run across people with this attitude? I don't think Bill Gates (Microsoft) is this way, or he wouldn't be where he is today! I don't think anyone knows why Bill Gates is so successful, but Bill Gates himself. But, I can offer my two-cents in the matter and so can you.
- Believe in Yourself!
[Self-Improvement:Positive-Attitude] Nobody starts out as a professional at any endeavor... not the donut-maker or the candle-stick maker! We all have to pay our dues and there's no free lunch!
- Everyone is Creative and So Are YOU!
[Self-Improvement:Creativity] Why didn't I think of that? How many times have you asked yourself that question? Wouldn't it be nice if ideas grew on trees... but they don't. Ideas come along when they want... or they don't come along at all.
- My Love For Creative Writing
[Writing-and-Speaking:Writing-Articles] One of my writing instructors told the class one day, that if she had to choose between her husband and her writing... she would give her husband the boot! Now, that's a serious love for writing in anyone's book! As a novice in writing myself, I don't have that kind of passion for writing... YET... but give my a few years.
- Getting and Keeping My Confidence
[Self-Improvement:Self-Esteem] For nearly 20 years, I took a first-class pasting from the crippling and unforgiving migraine headaches! During that time, I lived a pretty bleak existence, and for many years, I almost found myself homeless several times! My confidence was at an all-time low, or didn't exist at all!
- My Integrity is Not Negotiable
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] Some people lie and cheat their way through life, and make no apologies for it! "Everybody does it... so it's okay!" I'm sorry... but not everyone lies and cheats their way through life! You don't teach your children and grand-children to lie and cheat their way through life, do you?
- The Boob-Tube vs Improving My Writing!
[Writing-and-Speaking:Writing] In my first year of writing (August, 2006 to August, 2007), I wrote 61 articles, and all 61 articles have been published on over 160 websites on the Internet, which has been amazing to me! I think one of the primary reasons, is because I've cut down 90% on television-watching, and I have not been distracted by the boob-tube, etc.
- Keeping Up With the Joneses - Forget It!
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] What is success? Where is the top? We have all seen the rich, famous, and the powerful parade in front of us, and many are successful in their careers...but failures in their personal lives...many times due to substance abuse, corruption and other reasons, etc.
- Welcome To The Funny Farm (Mental Health)
[Health-and-Fitness:Mental-Health] I came up with the idea for the Funny Farm in 1999, but it lay dormant until 2003, because I didn't know what to do with it. It wasn't until that year, that I put the idea to work. This piece is a behind-the-scenes look at how the Funny Farm came about. None of us are getting any younger...and, whether you're young or old, we all have to take a serious look at mental illness in the future. And, after the unthinkable events of Virginal Tech...I think now more than ever!
- Immaturity - Why Can't the Government Grow Up?
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] In the year 2007, it amazes me that the American people sill have to baby-sit with the local, state, and federal government, and watch their every move... JUST LIKE LITTLE BABIES! We hear of horror stories of government intrusion into our lives all the time! If the government, at all levels, was so squeaky-clean, why do we have a need for the ACLU and other watch-dog organizations, who keep a vigilant eye on these three big babies in our lives?
- The SpaMobile Has Arrived! (Beep-Beep)
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] You have received the following Spam-O-Gram which reads: "You have an imagination, don't you? USE IT! Attention-getters; hooks; taking chances...that's what this article is about.
- What Are We Doing To Each Other as a People?
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] "What we need is a kinder, gentler nation!" Those are the words of senior President George Bush, when he was President of the United States in the early 1990's. When he spoke at the Coretta King's funeral in early 2006, he uttered those same words again!
- Here's The Skinny On How I Lost 40 Pounds
[Health-and-Fitness:Weight-Loss] Losing weight is a tough problem for anyone! Statistics show that over 50% of the American people are overweight, and I didn't want to be part of that club, so I had to lose weight. Plus, I knew that carrying the extra weight was not good for my health.

- Buyer Beware - Weight Loss - Diet Products
[Health-and-Fitness:Weight-Loss] When I had to lose 40 pounds in 2001, I had no idea what to do or where to start, because I have never had a weight problem before. There is so much out there on diet and weight-loss, that it was dizzying to me to know what to do. In every industry in America, there are snake-oil salespeople - so how does one choose from the good and effective products and from the fakes and the frudulant?
- Remembering Manuel...(Alzheimer's/dementia)
[Health-and-Fitness:Mental-Health] Heart-breaking is the only word I can use to describe Manuel, who was a patient the same time I was a patient, at the VA hospital in 2005. At the time, I knew nothing about dementia...that awful disease that takes away the mind, and leaves the person hopelessly in the dark!
- I'm Proud To Be an American Veteran
[News-and-Society:Military] "Mr. Gorbachev...tear down this wall." Those are the words of President Ronald Reagan, who strongly urged President Gorbachev of the Soviet Union, to tear down the Berlin Wall, which was a symbol of hate, terror, fear and repression during the dangerous Cold War!
- Jerry - Are You Crazy
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] Being in the humor business for over 40 years, I've been asked if I'm crazy more times than I can count! One day, I was working on a project, and I needed to list many of my favorite things in life, and as I wrote the list, I was beginning to wonder if I, indeed, was crazy! The list went something like this-
- Legacy: A Gift of Writing
[Writing-and-Speaking:Writing-Articles] Can somebody tell me how in the world I'm going to get my 15 minutes of fame? Recently, the city offered to name the land-fill after me...I declined! The county came along and offered to name a construction "porta-potty," after me...how dare you! How am I going to leave something behind, so people can remember me?
- Music: The Beginning of Rock and Roll For Me - (1955)
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Music] NOSTALGIA: A LITTLE TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE! It was the mid-1950's, and my family could not afford a television set, so we listened to the radio. And, there were two peculiar and unusual voices I heard on the radio at that time...the voices of Little Richard and Wolfman Jack! Many feel like the song, Rock Around The Clock (Bill Haley and the Comets) got it all started in 1954! THE BEGINNING OF ROCK AND ROLL! WHAT A GREAT TIME TO GROW UP! And, in the year 2006, rock and roll - and especially the oldies, are more popular than ever!
- Does Life Begin at 40
[Health-and-Fitness:Anti-Aging] I remember back in the 1960's, when all the hipples, yippies, zippies and the rest of us under 20, couldn't trust anyone over 30 years of age! Wow-but, how times change! And, when a person says hello to the 60 mark like I have-along with millions of other boomers-being 40 doesn't seem so bad!
- Humor Helps Us All to Cope With the Aging Process
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] How time flies! One day, you're 25 years old and feeling your oats - and the next day, you're 65 years old and preparing to enter the Old Folks Home! I don't think there is anything that worries me more than getting old!

(that's an amazing number!) 'It's almost totally preventable,' says Dr. Robert Rizza, president of the American Diabetes Association
- Is Bald Beautiful
[Health-and-Fitness:Hair-Loss] For all whiners out there, who get ONE LITTLE GRAY HAIR, and have a panic-attack - they ought to LOSE THEIR HAIR, and all that whining would stop! For those of us, who have lost our hair, we have had to deal with our self-esteem, our confidence, and trying to keep out chin up, over a long period of time!
- Peer-Pressure - It's Everywhere
[Self-Improvement] Peer pressure is not just for teen-agers. The ugly face of peer-pressure will follow all of us to the grave, by those who who want us to go a different direction with our lives! So, set your goals for yourself, and don't let anyone get in your way to reaching your dreams!
- The English Language Is All "Greek" To Me
[Reference-and-Education:Languages] For your mission, if you decide to accept it, you will construct a complete sentence with one of the following words. "their; they're or there." Should you fail, you will go straight to jail - you will not pass GO - and, you will NOT collect $200.00!
- Just Say "NO" To Dirty Humor!
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] When I built my website, there were many things I was not sure about. But, one thing I WAS sure about...there would be NO dirty humor in it! No racial slurs or put-down of women or anybody else! My website AND my articles are for young people; women; seniors and families!

- The "Humor Bug", Catch It-and Spread It Around!
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] Humor is everywhere-you just have to find it! People ask me where I get the ideas for humor and the answer is always the same. Around the home; around the work place; out in the streets and out where the deer and the antelope play.
- I Refused To Raise Two Mama's Boys
[Home-and-Family:Parenting] After nineteen years, one of the reasons why me and my wife went our separate ways, was because we differed as to how our boys were going to be raised. Her idea was to raise two spoiled "mama's boys," and my idea was to raise two boys with a work ethic. Neither one of us would give in and the tug-of-way ended in divorce!
- The "ME" Generation Is Alive And Well
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] Whether we like it or not - selfishness and greed are an epidemic in this country - from sea to GREEDY sea! In school, we all learned in history about the Dark Ages; the Iron Age; the Industrial Age; the Information Age - and now, we all live in the most dreaded of all - the SELFISH and GREED AGE!
- Ricky's Story - Alcoholism and Tough Love
[Self-Improvement:Addictions] Alcohol abuse is a big problem in the United States. In my family of ten kids - five boys - and five girls, I have one alcoholic sister and two alcoholic brothers! Together, they have done their part to destroy the entire family! One of the most frightening nights of my life, was when one of my brothers came home to stay with my parents, and threatened to kill the whole family. His attitude and behavior were not tolerated, and he said hello to a jail cell.
- Have You Ever Kissed an Ashtray? (Pucker-Up!)
[Health-and-Fitness:Quit-Smoking] Smoking is not only a health issue, but it is a relationship issue - as least it was in my marriage. - Discrimination Against Older Workers (Ageism)
[Business:Ethics] The ugly face of Ageism- Discrimination against older workers! Whether you're a man or a woman, and like it or not, we're all going to have to deal with the difficult subject of ageism - discrimination against older workers! None of us are getting any younger - and, you can't bury your head in the sand, and neither can I!
- How Humor Helps Me To Cope
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] Professionals tell us that two human emotions cannot occupy the same space at the same time. You're either happy or you're sad - you can't have it both ways. My choice is to be happy, or at least I try to be happy, and humor helps me to achieve that goal.
- Think Positive! Out With The Negative!
[Self-Improvement:Positive-Attitude] OUT WITH THE NEGATIVE! The glass is either half empty - or half full. I've always liked to think the glass is half full. As far back as I can remember, I have always been a positive thinker. I have zero tolerance for negative environments and negative people around me!
- Humor 101 For Dumbos!
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] (Former title: So. You Want To Be Funny, eh?) I've been in the humor business for over 40 years, and I never get tired of it. Humor and making people laugh has been my life! Whether it be by telling a joke; writing an anecdote; carving a piece of wood or building my website, it has been humor over the years, that has brought me so much pleasure and has been so gratifying.
- Taking Chances With My Ideas
[Home-and-Family:Crafts-Hobbies] As a woodcarver, I'm out of the art and craft world, and not out of the writing world. And, when I first started out carving wood, I wanted to dig down deep into my imagination and create some ideas that nobody else had come up with. As you will see later in this piece, I think I accomplished my mission. because some of my ideas are off the wall; dry; ridiculous, and just plain stupid!
- Good Writing Requirs Good Speling and Grama!
[Writing-and-Speaking:Writing] I had been building my website for about a year, when I received the worst email I had ever seen! It was riddled with spelling and grammar mistakes throughout, and the email was just plain sloppy and unprofessional It was ONE big fat paragraph of run-on sentences, with no periods or commas, etc. It was also difficult to read and understand!
- Easy On The Mayo-Humor
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] People have asked me where I get my ideas for humor, and the answer is always the same. Around the home; around the work place; out in the streets, and of course, out where the deer and the antelope play.

- Do You Have A Fear of Failure?
