- Conservative or Liberal?
[News-and-Society:Politics] There are two main reasons people call themselves Republicans instead of the more compassionate Democrats. Conservatives see the world in black and white, while liberals are aware that the real world comes in shades of gray. Nothing is really in black and white.
- What is Religion?
[News-and-Society:Religion] Religion is defined in many ways. No one definition fully includes all religions except perhaps this one--religion is one's beliefs.
- Swimming with the Dolphins
[Travel-and-Leisure] I have always felt an intense pull towards marine mammals. This is a weird thing for someone from Iowa, with no large bodies of water nearby.
- Civil Rights March in Forsyth County
[News-and-Society] You could just feel the hatred in the air. It was overwhelming.
- God is not a Homicidal Maniac
[News-and-Society:Religion] One day on my support group listserve someone posted that it must be part of God's plan that we all got HSP. Bull! The genes got goofed up.
- Spiritual Clarity
[Self-Improvement:Spirituality] Organized religion is only one of the paths to spirituality.
- Religion or Spirituality
[Self-Improvement:Spirituality] There is a natural tendency to associate spirituality with religion, but they are very different. Religion is an organized system of beliefs and spirituality is finding your authentic self.
- Vegetarianism
[News-and-Society:Religion] Why do people feel they have the right to ask me why I am a vegetarian? I never ask why they feel it is acceptable to kill and eat another creature.
- Tale of an Ark
[News-and-Society:Religion] How did Noah get kangaroos from Australia and polar bears from the Arctic to Palestine?
- Women in Religion
[News-and-Society:Religion] The New and Old Testaments of the Bible do not portray women in a positive way.
- Heaven and Hell
[News-and-Society:Religion] Heaven is a bribe and hell is a punishment?
- Evolution Simplified and Factual
[News-and-Society:Religion] Creationists interpret the Bible's story of creation literally. They believe that the universe and all that is in it have been recently created by divine intervention. Basically it is a refusal to see the facts. How can anyone with any sense dispute evolution?
- Peaceful Religions?
[News-and-Society:Religion] All religions promote peace and the "Golden Rule", it is just presented in different ways. Where organized religion gets violent is by way of man's interpretation.
- I Do Not Have HSP
[Health-and-Fitness] I wore tunnel visioned ultimate denial glasses. I just did not want to think that I could have an actual neurologic disorder. After admitting to myself that something was actually wrong and getting diagnosed, I now began to work on hiding it for as long as I could from others.
- The Morality of Using Stem Cells
[News-and-Society:Politics] Half of all Americans could benefit in some way from stem cell research. "Could" is the operative word in the preceeding sentence. Don't we owe it to the already living humans to find out if they "could" be helped? What about the morality of letting people suffer or die when they "could" be helped?
