[Automotive] The one thing I've always promised myself would never occur happened last week - I became my dad. Now I love my dad and we get on brilliantly, but he does have a tendency to moan. Whether it's being stuck in a traffic jam, the price of milk or the quality of projection at the cinema, my dad can't resist the odd rant.

[Automotive] Jeep has undergone somewhat of a revolutionary change very recently. Where previously the model range consisted of the wily old Wrangler and the Cherokee and er.. Oh yeah the Grand Cherokee. The new range of vehicles on offer from this long standing manufacturer is now positively vast.

[Automotive] As things get increasingly tougher in the new car market due to the global economic situation and ever more challenging environmental issues even the American manufacturers have had to sit up and take notice. Of greater concern to them the Japanese have stolen a march on US manufacturers which has meant a rather large chunk of market share has gone to Japanese manufacturers resulting in Toyota being the top seller in the US.

[Automotive] I'm a great one for café culture and the people watching that comes free with my sun-drenched cappuccino. You learn a lot people watching too, such as why the tramp that talks to himself endlessly, talks to himself endlessly and that the shuffling old woman that goes everywhere at 1mph used to be a glamour model and has links to the mafia.

[Automotive] There's nothing worse than a half-baked idea. The thought of combining two favourable ingredients to result in one super, all powerful outcome has never worked. One such example are super-groups, rock bands that combine to be 'better' than their original form. Audioslave are one such example, combining Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and all but the rapping bloke from Rage Against the Machine. The format worked so well that RATM are back together and Chris is writing jingles for James Bond flicks.

[Automotive] The Jeep Patriot is essentially a mini Jeep, a matchbox toy version of the Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. It's Jeep's aim to entice as many families into the Patriot as possible and are marketing it as a sensible, affordable alternative to the family saloon.

[Automotive] This week I was driving through whimsical countryside, with the leaves sweeping past my windscreen just as the road did the same and all was right with the world. Suddenly a shadow was cast over my beloved car and as I dared peak into my rear-view mirror I asked myself "What's that coming over the hill?" It was indeed a monster, in the form of a Chelsea tractor, piloted by none other than a life sized Barbie that was just a plastic. As she applied her makeup - presumably for Ken, the thought of driving seemed like an added bonus, the hand stitched hide of what appeared to be a white tiger lavished over the empty child seat next her. And then she was gone.

[Automotive] You see, whilst the world becomes Americanised, the US is very picky about what it accepts onto it's shores - with the one exception of cars. For every Chevrolet or Chrysler dealer there are BMW and Mercedes Benz franchises competing. Europe you see, knows how to build a car and historically, despite Henry Ford getting things rolling with the Model T, America has lagged behind.

[Automotive] When it comes to building stuff, the Americans don't do things by halves. Whether it's adding to a cityscape with a moon-prodding skyscraper, jetting off to said moon, building the SR-71 'Blackbird' - the fastest plane ever (2,193.167 MPH!), or constructing a colossal super-sized meal, the US rules supreme.
