- Cheap Waikiki Hawaii Honeymoon?
[Travel-and-Leisure] I know this is going to sound crazy, but think about bringing a tent with you and spend a few nights at some of the excellent oceanfront parks on Oahu. One of my favorite places in the world is Malaekahana State Recreation Area, where the camping areas are on the water, but away road noise they also have some cabins but you need to reserve those most of the time way in advance, which are really beach houses and are fantastic deals. I have stayed there where there were very few people around and had the beach to ourselves.
- Aspen Airport
[Travel-and-Leisure:Airline-Travel] I am kind of a lucky guy as I get to spend a lot of time at Aspen Airport during the winter ski season, and the place is always changing, often with the weather. - Bangkok Suhkumvit
[Travel-and-Leisure:Destination-Tips] One of the most dynamic areas of Bangkok is Suhkumvit road between Nana and Asoke. The international diversity of the area is so cool, you can jump from a Thai local commuter river boat, into an Arab conclave with hookah restaurants, then into African area where you can make cheap international phone calls or buy your favorite soccer shirt, and then have your choice of walking into a Burger King, Hyatt or Starbucks in 3 blocks!
- Travelers Stuck With Swine Flu?
[Health-and-Fitness:Diseases] In addition to getting immunized before you get on the road, you can also be good eco travelers by teaching locals to cough and sneeze into their elbows, demonstrating how to do it correctly, and then demonstrate the wrong way. Start by waging your finger in the universal no sign and show how virus's are transmitted to them by sneezing into hand and then touch something like a desk or table, then parody having someone else touch the same spot and bring to face pointing at eyes, nose and mouth and then parody being sick. Then re-demonstrate the correct way and smile. They will understand this and hopefully that will virus into their community rather than a real virus!
- Swine Flu & Budget Travelers?
[Health-and-Fitness:Diseases] When you are on the road as a budget traveler you are more susceptible to catching nasty little bugs like the swine flu as you are more exposed on buses and trains as well as flights. - Thai Cooking Classes Bangkok
[Travel-and-Leisure:Destination-Tips] After the Thai cooking lessons was over, we got down to serious feasting and the conversations focused on more dishes and different styles continued. - Saving a Lost World in Cambodia

- Cambodia - Safe For the Kids Too!
[Travel-and-Leisure:Destination-Tips] Safety and security are big concerns for hotels that go out of their way to cater for families. - Traffic in Phnom Penh Cambodia?
[Travel-and-Leisure:City-Guides-and-Information] Traffic in Phnom Penh may look like an accident waiting to happen, but step outside the law and it will cost you a lot of time and money. Anyone who has been on Cambodian streets on two, three or four wheels knows it's a free-for-all affair. There are city ordinances that seem only to be enforced when the boys in blue are near enough to evaluate the worth of stopping a violator. And like it or not, the foreigner is viewed through lenses embossed with a dollar sign and he/she will often be stopped for what seems to be the most mundane of reasons.
- Asian Dating - Top 3 Secrets!
[Relationships:Dating] Be a team player. Take time to learn what she really likes a lot and finding something that is special. Or, look for something that you really like about her, and buy a small gift in that area, like a special hair comb, a CD of music that she likes and doesn't have, or maybe an mp3 player for her, with her favorites all ready loaded on to it. If you are in the dating mode buying her the latest and greatest cell phone is probably not a real good idea.
- Living Large, Crystal Rock Komodo Indonesia, Asia Adventure Diving!
[Travel-and-Leisure:Adventure-Travel] Almost anticlimactic is when the eagle ray and turtles make their appearance which would be the main highlight of any other dive. After 10 minutes or so of watching the turtles and the mantas we are dangling in the water column, suspended like oversized puppets, off gassing at 5 meters, each wondering if we will get to do this great of a dive again. People that have experienced not being able to pull enough air from their regulators can strongly empathies with people that have been water boarded, as you have the same physiological - psychological sensations of not getting enough air, and the air that you are getting is wet. This is one of the main reasons to spend a bit more on your regulators to upgrade to a balanced regulator, as they tend to provide more air than non balanced regulators, this becomes even more pronounced the deeper that you go, as you must suck harder to counteract the ambient pressure at depth "to crack the first stage" and pull air from the tank with a non balanced regulator.

The great budget accommodations retain great staff, and gain efficiency, and the process in the background that you don't see, gets honed to the point that the hotels operate on autopilot.
- Colorado Perfect Summers!
[Travel-and-Leisure] Cloudless blue skies are the norm here, with occasional thunderstorms lighting the high country. As the summer wanes the fall colors are a fantastic sight with aspen and birches in their millions showering the mountains in reds and gold's.
- Asia Diving on a Tight Travel Budget?
[Travel-and-Leisure:Budget-Travel] The best way to do this is to have a budget and then record everything that you spent money on from the time that you left your house to the time that you get back; you might be surprised at how small of a percentage the actual Asian diving was! One of the ways you can back track is to look at what you spent on your credit cards. If you are like most people you will put the big stuff on the cards and pay cash for the small stuff. The credit card purchases themselves are a way for you to save money, as most major credit cards charge an international transaction fee, and then many merchants in Asia also charge you a transaction fee, so you could be paying as much as 6% more on those large foreign purchases, something to really think about.
- Travel Guides For Budget Travelers?
[Travel-and-Leisure:Budget-Travel] In Asia many times the books are only partially updated and much of the information is dated, especially when it comes to the prices, which hey if you are a budget traveler is very important information, if you are going to remain on target for your travel goals. Who really wants to get a job when they are traveling because the estimates they made were based on dated information? Unless that was part of the plan to begin with for instance, when they are going to Australia if they are from Untied Kingdom or Canada, but even then having current information is vital.
- Budget Traveler - Lighten the Load
[Travel-and-Leisure:Budget-Travel] Buy the little travel size which is all you need to get you over there and you can buy a bigger bargain one. If you open it they throw it out, so you might as well take it and be eco friendly tourist to boot.

What this means for you is that the best lawyers might all ready have large workloads when you walk into their law offices for the first time.
- Snow Limos?
[Travel-and-Leisure:Limo-Rentals-Limousines] In the high country of Colorado the snow can be very deep and for this reason snow limos in Aspen Vail and Denver are more practical rather than a regular limo, or a taxi for driving in the mountains of Colorado during winter storms. Four wheel drive and the weight of the limos make them much safer in the deep snow and ice that is common in Colorado.
- Asia Cheap Travel, Screw the Research & Planning!
[Travel-and-Leisure:Budget-Travel] One of the biggest problems that I face when planning Asia cheap travel is trying to set the main things that I want to do and then to come up with a reasonable time frame and importantly for me a cheap travel budget that is realistic to the goals that I have identified. Research is the key to having a great vacation or an OK holiday, screw this part up and regret it you will. - No Thailand - What Next For Asia Cheap Flights & Travel?
[Travel-and-Leisure:Budget-Travel] Today the best choice I can see as an option to Bangkok Thailand for cheap flights is Singapore. KL and Singapore are slightly more expensive for a flight in early Feb with a two to three week stay. I was getting rates that were $50 higher for Singapore and a bit more for KL. Before this current situation, I was looking at these two airports and on a couple of occasions I was rewarded with cheaper flights out of Asia. One time I even flew from Bangkok to Singapore with a 2 hour layover and then back into Bangkok to catch a cheap flight out of South East Asia.
- Top 3 Asia Cheapest Flights
[Travel-and-Leisure:Airline-Travel] At this rate it is not hard to imagine the prices doubling again in the next 7 years as things like carbon taxes and higher fuel cost combined with general inflation and more people in Asia joining the ranks of the middle class and spreading their wings, doubling of airfares really isn't that far fetched. The cheapest flight from the west coast of the USA either Seattle, San Francisco or Los Angeles today is going to cost you over $1100 USD even if you do everything right like book in advance 60 to 90 days, Book on a Monday - Tuesday, and select mid week flights while being flexible with multi stops and longer layovers.
- The Absolute Best Way to Beat a Traffic Ticket!
[Legal] Avoid traveling at night especially around the times that the local bars close. With Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) such high priorities for most police departments they actively patrol late at night and are looking for reasons to pull people over to check to see if they are drinking. Talking on your phone, switching lanes a lot, rolling stops, slightly over the speed limit, are all triggers that can get you pulled over.
- PADI Advanced Open Water Course - Underwater Photography
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] Creating art is one thing, creating art in a different universe is taking it to a new level, and the lower you go, the more fun it is with the PADI Advanced Open Water Course; Underwater Photography. Telling people what you saw when diving in Bali, compared to showing them what you saw while scuba diving Bali, really makes the old axiom shine that a pictures says a thousands words.
- PADI Advanced Open Water Course - Underwater Naturalist Revealed!
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] My first PADI dive instructor loved all the different butterfly fish, which in Hawaii we have many different species with names like blue nose, raccoon & pyramid; I was able to take my experience from Hawaii and continue adding to my list so that now I can name 30 butterfly species on sight and look forward to seeing more as I search them out. Recently scuba diving in Bali I was excited to see my first Vagabond and Panda butterfly's while diving at Nusa Penida off the coast of Bali where there were at least 15 different species on every dive including the beautiful threadfin and ovals!

- Cheap Hotels in Asia, Problems to Expect and Avoid!
[Travel-and-Leisure:Hotels-Accommodations] Check the windows that they are locked and that you can lock them. Look to see if there is access to the window from outside. I have seen it a few times where they hook your pants or small bags through the windows which can cause a pretty good hit if you have a wad in your pocket or they get your camera bag! Try to remember to keep things away from windows and out of sight, either in a closet or under the bed.
- No Hotel Reservations For Beijing Olympics?
[Travel-and-Leisure:Hotels-Accommodations] Being an adventurer myself I would try this, have a note made in Chinese that says that you are looking for a room in a family home and then walk around in the Hutongs near the Forbidden City. If you are lucky and find one you will get a real look at Beijing where most others will only see the shiny patina.
- Dive Asia, Budget Travel in Asia!
[Travel-and-Leisure:Budget-Travel] Become a repeat customer. Most dive companies love to have regulars as they are comfortable with you, and know exactly what your needs are. If you are friendly and easy to work with then they will be even more inclined to want to give you a break on their rack rates. It is a business truism that it is easier to keep a customer than to find a new one. Word of mouth is one of the best forms of advertising and if you are going to the same place many times you are going to tell your friends so the dive center and the divers all win.
- Budget Travel - Try Thailand Trains For Cheap Asia Travel
[Travel-and-Leisure:Budget-Travel] I always make a point of stopping for some munchies before I get to the train station to save money there as well. I am partial to orange slices maybe for you it is gummy bears. You will want something to snack on the long ride. They normally have a food steward that comes around as soon as you leave Bangkok offering a set dinner and breakfast, 150 for the dinner, and 90 for the breakfast.
- De Tour of Detours in Malaysia! Bangkok to Bali Overland
[Travel-and-Leisure:Budget-Travel] The trip From Butterworth to Singapore is easy there is one rest stop that it seems every bus that is traveling in Malaysia stops at. The bathrooms have areas that could be improved like all the areas! The food in the restaurant is basic and presented on picnic tables with cutlery from a bin. You find a very limited assortment of drinks and no real western junk food available. I went with the $1 hockey puck grease burger which was quite tasty and the brown sauce gives a pleasant jolt, you might consider ordering 2 or 3 if you wanted to self induce a food comma till the mornings early light.
- Bangkok to Bali on the South Bound Train
[Travel-and-Leisure:Budget-Travel] The train is cheap, around $40 for a 2nd class air-con berth which is comfortable, be sure to get lower bunks as the upper bunks will sway more so you don't get as good a sleep. You can also get 1st class air con seats where there are only 2 people in the cabin. The cabin is fairly small yet they managed to fit in a sink and a mirror which are the only real upgrades to the seats - berths. The biggest benefits is the ability to lock the door from the inside, so if you are traveling with your significant other you can have some "Risky Business" type nocturnal entertainment, not quite the same as the mile high club but something that will I am sure make the trip more memorable.
- Advanced Open Water - Peak Performance Buoyancy
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] Summing up almost all dive pro's will recommend that you do the PPB before you do the Deep Dive in the Advanced Open Water Course and that the Peak Performance Buoyancy is one of the most entertaining scuba diving instruction that you will do. After you have completed expect to see better air consumption as well as being more efficient in the water! Being more in control is safer for you as well as better for the environment as you will be less likely to hit the bottom or get a nick name like pig pen for all the silt you stir up! As I like to say "Get in over your head and smile, smile, smile!"
- Bangkok to Bali Overland, Part One Into the Bowels of Bangkok
[Travel-and-Leisure:Budget-Travel] The mission was to travel over a big chunk of Asia from Bangkok to Bali overland, the reason to do it overland is that I was going to go scuba diving and was bringing all of my own dive equipment. Time wasn't a factor but I wanted to do it as inexpensive as possible.
- Visual Tank Inspections - What Are They Looking At?
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] The first thing they will do after they empty all of the air out of the tank and remove the "head" , tank valve is tip the tank upside down and place their hand under the hole to see what comes out, hopefully just a little bit of water will come out. Most tanks that have been in service for awhile and have been refilled on a regular basis will have a very small amount of water normally less than a teaspoon and some of which will be there from the emptying of the remaining air from the tank to do the service.

- Asia's Most Exotic Landscape, Cambodia!
[Travel-and-Leisure:Destination-Tips] The other thing that you cannot miss is the smiles and the endless hello's that you receive when you travel around from all of the kids. [Travel-and-Leisure] Inside the 2nd ring is a treasure trove of interesting things between the Forbidden City and the railway station on the south end was an old part of Beijing's city wall, a shopping maze with small stalls and little fast food noodle shops. The area around the train station had old luxury 5 star Chinese hotels, Beijing cheap guesthouses, massage centers and restaurants that for the curious offered allot of amusement in their design and function. You could spend a couple of days in this one small area and still want to go back to find more.
- Koh Phi Phi Paradise Lost!
[Travel-and-Leisure] When the movie The Beach was made here there were not many that knew about this beautiful island group of Stonehenge like monoliths that stick out of the pond like waters of the Andaman Sea. Clad in deep jungle greenery they have a forbidding yet enticing aura about them. The white sand beaches look like everyone's picture of tropical paradise with palm trees thick at the top with green pods of coconuts waiting to drop their sweet milk for thirsty travelers.
- Cambodia Travel Adventures 2008
[Travel-and-Leisure] The main routes between Phnom Penh & Siem Reap and Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville you can now find buses that would be rated first class in Thailand, with the definition of first class being air con with a small water closet. Some of the legacy carriers will assault you with Khmer karaoke classics at painful volume; Mekong Express being the exception which shows previews of the temples, and on the other routes you will be able to keep up to date with all of the Mr. Been adventures, which like chocolates, has everyone smiling regardless of where on the blue marble they come from. Dining can be a real culinary adventure on most of the routes, expect to be wined and dined with mongrel flea ridden dogs, lactating cats and bugs that go whir in the night, sometimes they are begging for your food, other times they are featured on your plate!
- A Poor Madman In Tokyo!
[Travel-and-Leisure] So I didn't do a geisha show, and I missed the zoo and I didn't do the kabuki theater either. What I did do was a stand up noodles restaurant in Ikebukuro, a quick stroll through the imperial gardens, wandered around the Ginza, saw the Tokyo central train station and stopped at Wendy's for a triple, but no fries or drink as I am a diet.
- Find a Cheap Lawyer?
[Legal] What do Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and cheap lawyers have in common? A dumb question to be sure, as there is no Santa Claus, Easter Bunny or cheap lawyers; however if you have a legal problem and you need to get it fixed, there are some alternatives to consider before you give a lawyer a retainer.
- Volcano Scuba Diving in Hawaii at Hanauma Bay
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] There are probably at least 10 great spots for shore diving within an hour of Honolulu Sharks Cove, From Here to Eternity Beach, Electric Beach and Magic Island all being part of the list. One of the most world famous dive sites would be scuba diving at Hanauma bay. As well as being a great shore dive in Hawaii it is a very popular snorkeling site as well with Hawaii visitors that stay in the nearby Waikiki hotels. The site is accessible by the Honolulu city bus route #22 that runs from Ala Moana Mall in Waikiki.
- Narita Airport The Airport That Could've But Didn't?
[Travel-and-Leisure] I thought for sure that Narita would have all kinds of fun electronics and gizmos you would think that they would have an arcade or pachinko parlor or maybe a little electric city. The only thing they have to play with is the toilets which I am wondering about how they can hit you square in the part that needs to be cleaned do they have a camera and somebody who aims the stream. The electronics they do have for sale are certainly neat they just aren't the super cool stuff I was expecting like a 100 meter TV or a virtual Ginza tour complete with night clubs and interactive hostess that tell corny jokes something anything off the wall like that that the Japanese are famous for producing. I think that they missed a good branding venue here.
- Soylent Green or Silent Green Up to You? #3
[News-and-Society:Environmental] Tire Inflation is so un-sexy but improper inflation can lead to 10% more fuel being used needlessly to go the exact same distance and improper inflation also causes the tires to wear out faster, which results in even more wasted energy to manufacture new tires that you pay for. Buy a tire gauge and test the air pressure when the tires are warmed up.
- Soylent Green or Silent Green 2? Manage Heat
[Home-Improvement] In the winter time look for cracks in the walls or places where the cold comes in, cold windy days are the best. A 1/16 inch crack that runs for 4 feet is going to cost you a lot of money over the course of a year. All you need to do is take some paper or left over insulation and stuff it in there and you are saving money today. The good places to look are where the house meets the foundation, look around windows and doors and electric outlets which are always problem spots.
- Soylent Green or Silent Green, Up Too You?
[Self-Improvement] There is a revolution going on and it is a quiet one that is getting nosier by the day; rising seas, dying corals, burning forests and more severe storms. Mother Earth is dying and more and more people are paying attention, and they want to know what I can do to help. They say that the way that you eat an elephant is one small bite at a time; this can be a useful adage for today especially if you don't want to be eating Soylent Green in the future.

- Adventure Scuba Diving in Asia, Great Places to Visit On Your Asian Holiday!
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] The new King is a dive nut; this could be a very good thing for Malaysia scuba diving. Don't be surprised if he drops some cool stuff into the water to look at like helicopters, planes and big boats. I am not sure what the social protocol is when diving with a King, I would guess that swimming backwards so you don't show your butt to him could be difficult, might need to look that up!
- My Secrets To Finding the Really Cheap Flights and Discount Airfares
[Travel-and-Leisure:Airline-Travel] The biggest secret to finding discount airfares is look in allot of places and start looking early! AND not all of the places that you should be looking at are on the internet! I have looked up deals on the internet and then went with the information to a travel agent and see if they can beat it, and sometimes they can, as they get spiffs from the airlines, or the airlines are special promoting a destination to the travel agents, and they can pass the savings on to you, if you ask.
- Asia Travel, Cheaper Flights to Kuala Lupur and Singapore
[Travel-and-Leisure:Airline-Travel] Speculation is that there will be a lot of interest by the governments of other capitol cites in region, that currently have restrictive polices on access, mainly to protect their flag carriers from value airlines like Tiger Air and Air Asia, two of the stronger regional budget airlines operating in the Asia region. Indonesia and its capitol city of Jakarta, it is hopeful, will see the advantages and create an atmosphere that encourages the budget carriers to operate, which will create more opportunities for business to flourish in the southern Asian region.

[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] Military, rescuers and commercial vessels, including high flying commercial flights will all respond to an SOS if they see it, if fact, are required by maritime law and tradition to respond if it does not put them or their ships in danger. With the long burn time of a LED you should get one maybe even two nights or more out of the batteries. A light turned on pointing at a boat in the day time can be seen for a long way off, and when the batteries die you can use it as a mirror to flash people a long way off to bring attention to you including planes and helicopters.
- Cheap Flights For All My Friends & Fiends!
[Travel-and-Leisure:Airline-Travel] It is that time of the year when people start to think of getting away from the winter that they are suffering, and it hasn't even begun yet! I was talking to two friends recently one was in Kauai Hawaii, where God is rumored to go on vacation, and the other was in Southern California in LA and they were saying they needed a break, so I can only imagine what the rest of the world is going through.
- Scuba Diving Help Lost at Sea?
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] With the exception of a shark bumping into you, and posturing like a cat coughing up a fur ball there is nothing more scary in scuba diving than being lost at sea, in a current, at night, with the boat no where in sight. - Cambodia Secrets of Sihanoukville?
[Travel-and-Leisure] One of the worst held secrets is the rapid emergence of Sihanoukville Cambodia as a major Asian beach resort town. Many that have been here in the past would smugly say I told you so, as to all it was readily apparent that this quiet little coastal beach town had all the makings for a long time now
- Cheap Hotels, Finding The Best Discount Accommodation Deals
[Travel-and-Leisure:Hotels-Accommodations] Another benefit of dealing direct with the hotel is that you can ask questions like does the room have a window and can you see more than just an elevator shaft through it! You can also make sure that you get a no smoking room. You could also ask them if they have better rates if you book 3 or more nights. You can also confirm that they will hold the reservation if you are going to arrive after 6PM or maybe you have some other request that normally will not be answered by the big sites.
- Not Flying After a Crash is Rude
[Travel-and-Leisure:Airline-Travel] On the way in I was bumped from economy up to business class by United Airlines, Thank You Very Much, and the 2nd leg was bumped up to Economy Plus. On the flight back to Hong Kong I flew in the back, I had the opportunity to upgrade to Economy Plus but stayed in the back, as the load was so light that I had seats 60 DEFG and slept most of the way from Chicago to Hong Kong. I talked to a fellow snorer in the back of the plane and he was doing the exact same thing as he knew, like most seasoned travelers, that he could improve his chances of getting multiple seats on these days.
- Saigon Strolling Tours in Vietnam

- Discover Hawaii
[Travel-and-Leisure] The main island of Oahu where the capitol of Honolulu and Waikiki are located has over 80% of the population of the whole Hawaiian island chain which provides a bit of a shock when you fly into the airport, don't expect to see grass huts in Honolulu which is the 14th largest city in the US, and covers a major part of the island; yet 1 hour walking from the skyscrapers will put you into dense rain forests, with major stands of big bamboo and very cool waterfalls. Up on the north shore of Oahu you have some great scuba diving or surfing depending on the waves.
- The Very Best Asian Cheap Hotels, Really!
[Travel-and-Leisure:Hotels-Accommodations] Asia Cheap hotels are not supposed to have a pool much less a nice pool that is within a 100 meters of the ocean. Brand new rooms and a cost for most rooms at $20 is a hard deal to pass up. Of course for the really cheap you can go to Utopia which is free, but you will have lots of company close enough to smell the garlic pizza and beer they had for a midnight snack, as that was all they could afford as they kept their travel money stash in dollars, which are losing their value so fast that if you tape them to the back of a moped it will go much faster according to physics, which states for every action there is a equal opposite reaction.

- Finding the Cheapest Flights and Discount Airfares Deals - International or Regional
[Travel-and-Leisure:Aviation-Airplanes] It is almost as if the premise of the Terminator movie series staring everybody's favorite California Governor is coming true. Finding the cheapest flights and discount airfares is a battle against the machines, as the airlines invest big money in computer programs that maximize the loads; this combined with flight sharing means the days of empty jets is over, this is especially true if you are on a long haul flights, however just like in the movie, their are strategies that you can employ to better you odds.
- Bangkok Bandits
[Travel-and-Leisure] They seem innocent enough; they drive really nice cars, but be assured that they are out to take your money. Usually they seem to be very friendly and most speak pretty good English. Your best chance of running into one is in the areas where you find western tourist as these are their only prey. Some people might even argue that they are modern day Robin Hoods, which is very close to a true statement; they are indeed taxi driving robbing hoods.
- Fire Station, 3 Tables And Sharks Cove Some Of The Best Scuba Diving On Oahu Hawaii
[Travel-and-Leisure] Sharks Cove received its name not for the residents but because of a rock formation that looks like a shark. The neat thing about "Sharks Cove" is the lava tunnels that you can get into there, where you can spend the better part of the dive in a maze that has as its residents, pop corn shrimp, conger eels, Spanish dancers and lobsters that some estimate are over 100 yrs old, that are so large that they cannot get out of the holes any more.
- Visiting the Underworld in Malaysia!
[Travel-and-Leisure] Malaysian scuba diving is some of the best in the world. Unlike other parts of South East Asia they have good marine law enforcement, so the illegal fishing techniques like blast fishing are kept to a minimum, making for some very healthy reefs. They have left the wrecks under water so there are many to dive. In most of South East Asia the wrecks are chopped up for their scrap steel, which turns s a quick profit but takes away a reef habitat. The Malaysian government is also spending money on public awareness campaigns, and that is paying dividends in the form of less littering that you would see else where in the region.
- Perhentian Islands! Just What The Doctor Ordered
[Travel-and-Leisure] The living in the Perhentian islands is free and easy, with lots of cheap beach bungalows and cheap hotels available. If you are looking for an exclusive beach resort in Malaysia this would be an excellent place to start.
- The Fools Way Not to Get a Visa to The USA
[Legal] Many people really want to go to America and they think that they know what the embassy wants to hear, or read, so they think that they can give themselves a better chance to go to the USA by making their application sound better by using falsehoods. This is the single most unforgivable mistake that you can make, that is almost sure to torpedo your visa application. You absolutely can not tell a lie, or misrepresent, or omit requested facts to an USCIS or embassy person, because if they find out, and it is there job to find out, you will be turned down, and it is real hard to make a comeback from this, so you may jeopardize yourself forever from getting a visa to the USA
- The Airport Power Bandits!
[Travel-and-Leisure] You have probably seen them lurking in corners, often sitting in weird positions watchful that they will be found out and asked to move on. Sadly there is no 12 step program to help them. They are addicted and they can’t help themselves, they get absorbed with one thing, get juice!
Why the big deal about this, very simple, airplanes are one of the few places that you can not be disturbed, no phone, no doors and no internet. If the water cooler time waster wants to break into this space, he or she needs wings and a lot of determination
- Bonging in Phnom Penh?
[Travel-and-Leisure] the Lake Boung area of Phnom Penh, it really is more of a lifestyle, as you live the life of a bohemian, in one of the better established backpacker areas in South East Asia. If it sounds like something you might enjoy, you better hurry as the great suck is coming, and the lake if, you would call this swollen puddle a lake, will mostly disappear, not because of global warming, but the lake is slated to become a Cambodian version of the future, with all the stuff you love to hate in the west, like malls and those annoying restaurants where they sing special birthday songs to embarrasses you, on a day that is suppose to be enjoyable!
- Do Me A Favor And Do 3 Things For Me Right Now, Thanks!
[Home-Improvement:Cleaning-Tips-and-Tools] 1) Turn off lights that you are not using. MythBusters which is on the Discovery channel proved without a doubt that turning off the lights is going to save you energy and if it is in the summer time, it will reduce the heat being generated in the room, which will keep the room cooler, meaning les air conditioning.. Make a game out of it, and collect money for the electric bill every time that they leave a light on, nothing like a little incentive for the little energy wasters!
- Phnom Penh's Most Dangerous Sport
[Travel-and-Leisure] Some are slow, some very fast, none predictable and all very dangerous and potentially lethal. Like the asteroids scene in Star Wars, they come at you from every direction, and there is no where to hide! They will get you in the crosswalks; they will get you on the sidewalks, walking in a park, no where outside is safe. Motorcycles, cars, mattress, pigs, ox carts, cows, kitchen sinks and living room furniture all have your name on them. No one is safe from man or beast walking on the streets of Phnom Penh!
- Cambodia's Big Party Khmer New Year
[Travel-and-Leisure] They will use anything that will move water , from the small little hand squirt guns, to Buck Rodgers inspired monster size ray guns, that are able to shoot water for long distances in thick soaking streams, water balloons made from plastic bags, buckets, cups, ladles, hands, feet, anything to douse your neighbor is fair game. To add a little twist to it, as it is also a very hot season, they hit you with baby powder, and you can just imagine what kind of a bad hair day that can create, With signs of their handy work ghost like apparitions spotted from the beach city in Sihanoukville to the south, to the Cambodia capitol of Phnom Penh in the middle of the country, to the temples of Angkor Wat in Siem Reap to every little hamlet and village in the countryside.
- China Has A Secret City!
[Travel-and-Leisure] We thought at first that we were looking through rose colored glasses, as it was our first stop in China, but after the trip, myself and my trusty lawyer "Unk the Monk" both agreed, and gave Xiamen two thumbs up, a rare occurrence I can assure you, that it truly was one of the highlights of our trip.
- The Eternal Warriors of Xian China
[Travel-and-Leisure] They have stood in rows for centuries, warrior sentinels of an ancient culture. Time and vandals have taken their toll- the uniforms are dulled, but their weapons are still sharp. Many now come from around the world, to see this awesome testament of faith to life eternal, of the first emperor of China!

- Chatting with Mao at Starbucks in the Forbidden City
[News-and-Society] What would Moa see that would surprise him, certainly a Starbucks at the top of the Forbidden City is going to give him a little gas, but what else? Do you think Chairman Mao would smile at all the healthy people in their Western clothes going about there day in a peaceful and orderly way? What would he think of the skyscrapers and the western style malls, with everyone having a cell phone attached to their ear? Do you think that if he walked around a bit saw the way that China is working today, that he would be agreeing with some of Friedman's theorys and try to leave it alone and let the yin and yang of the free market work themselves out?
- Beijing Olympics - Marathons Start Early!
[Travel-and-Leisure] The streets look like the opening scene to the Terminator with large machines rumbling through the streets at all hours of the day and the night, and you see platoons of men moving forward with determination, carrying the tools of their trade, with smiles on their faces, in anticipation of their daily marathon efforts to get Beijing ready for her Olympics only 500 days away.
- Old Bangkok Arport to Reopen for Regional Flights - Bangkok New Airport Needs Repairs
[Travel-and-Leisure:Aviation-Airplanes] The new Bangkok airport is reportedly already maxing out at 45 million passengers a year projected. The main reasons given to reopen Bangkok's old airport to regularly scheduled flights was to lighten the load so that they could examine and repair construction faults at Bangkok's new international airport Suvarnabhumi, which has the airport designation code of BKK. There have been lots of allegations of corruption during the construction at the new airport, one of the reasons given to support the coup last year in September. They are looking to repair alleged construction faults on the runways, taxiways and other problems.
- Beijing Metro Trains are a Breeze for the China Olympics
[Travel-and-Leisure] Walking down 3 flights of stairs with a strong wind blowing ferociously upwards with people moving fast, side stepping musicians and ad hoc vendors, with a quick stop to pay 3 Yuan, and an even quicker ticket checker pulling the stub, a quick glance at a map for directions, and off you go on the Beijing Metro.
- Beijing Central Airport in China
[Travel-and-Leisure] The airport had everything that you would expect, except for one very notable flaw; there is no train into the city, which is unfortunate. They do a have a expressway that goes straight into Beijing from the airport, so the cheapest way to get to Beijing, if you are a single, is to take the bus, the problem with this is that you have no idea where they are dropping you off, so you are at the mercy of the taxis from there and they are quite mercenarily in the pricing if they know you don’t know the lay of the land.
- 10 Small Things To Take On Your International Trip
[Travel-and-Leisure] Super Glue I don't know what will break on your trip but from my experience they have fixed shoes, sun glasses, BCD's and held a friends filling in place until we could get him to a dentist, which I might add is not a recommended use, but for him any thing was preferred to the pain.
If you bring an air mattress and beach ball (I bet you though I carry them for the pool) for the occasions of late flights and canceled trains. Yes everyone else will be jealous of you especially if you snore like a bear!
- Shanghai Trains Don't Miss the Attraction in China!
[Travel-and-Leisure] Shanghai is missing a trick by not listing its maglev train as a tourist attraction. What a rush to go 431 Kilometers an hour. In 8 minutes you go 30 kilometers with a very comfortable ride. The speed of the train makes it just as good as any amusement park, without the long lines.
- New Bangkok Airport Revisited Buses and Taxis
[Travel-and-Leisure:Aviation-Airplanes] Scanning the signage was not very productive, even the signage to find the information booth is hard to find. They do however have excellent signage if you are looking for employee parking, or where they cook the food for the flights or the water treatment plant. Call me silly, but it seems to me that not many people are looking for those things when they get off a flight, but what do I know, maybe they are listed as attractions in the new Lonely Planet?
There is some concern as they are talking about moving some of the regional flights back to the old Bangkok airport this would be a major headache for travelers, as you could figure that a lot of people would miss flights that needed to transfer between the two airports, which are on different sides of Bangkok which like LA is scientifically measured not in miles or kilometers, but time units based on day, time, weather, local events and witchcraft
- Scuba Diving the Vietnam War's last battleground, Koh Tang Cambodia
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] There are no memorials here, once I heard the distinctive sound of a AK47 ripping through a clip poking holes in the sky fired in anger over a poker gamer, sometimes today you can still hear explosions but they are related more to poverty than to war as desperate men risk their lives in a continuing battle to make money from a slowly decaying fishing ground that is systematically being depleted by the Vietnamese and Thailand fishing fleets, illegally fishing in Cambodian water for squid and shrimp mostly. Thankfully the dynamite blasts are down to a trickle as the Cambodians are discouraging this at the higher levels and it is starting to be really enforced.
- Scuba Diving Naked!
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] I like the feeling of freedom that you get when you are skinny dipping, just kind of hanging out, if you will, in warm water, is akin to having a giant bathtub that you don’t use soap in, if you are the environmentally sensitive type, which most skinny dippers by nature tend to be.the closest that I have come was accidentally flashing my girlfriend when I was avoiding a embarrassing moment in my wet suit on a particularly long dive in Hawaii; you see I had custom wetsuit that had a zipper installed that I told everyone was so that I could control the temperature by venting the suit at the junction of my legs, which everyone knows that has taken a cold weather survival class is the hottest area on your body
- Singapore Neighborhoods, China Town
[Travel-and-Leisure] They have an interesting mall that has a lot of shop houses but I found the best food was in the little carts that lined the street, careful if you have a hard time with hot stuff, as some this food will light you up like a Christmas tree, if you order it hot. The pleasure of China Towns for most is the riot of colors, smells and maze like quality of the architecture that they all take on, Raffles obviously didn’t want that sort of thing in his city, so it is what it is, small and neat with enough Chinese character to make it stand out a bit from the rest of Singapore. What you still have that are a pleasure to dig around in are the Chinese versions of a pharmacy and the small food stalls, and the curious little shops that sell all sorts of bizarre things that you always wondered where they came from.
- Cambodia Cheap Travel "Motodops" Buses Taxis and Cheap Flights
[Travel-and-Leisure] Taxis like wise are improving as the western tourist demand a better quality, you can be fairly certain of getting a taxi that meets a minimum standard that is much improved from the old days. I remember one time that they had taken the seat belt and secured it behind the molding of the door frame, making it totally useless this kind of modification was not unusual, nor was it unusual to be suffer from a massive headache in a mini bus due to sucking on exhaust fumes for hours on end from the open rear door.
"Moto's" still tend to aggravate tourists mostly for the constant rip offs and now there is a lot of "took tooks" these guys are just as bad as the "touk touks" drivers in Bangkok and if you can avoid using one you will be that much happier on your travels
- Maui Scuba Diving Hawaii
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] After the dives at Molokini crater we went into the area around little Makena beach which is little more famous for being a nude beach, than a premier Hawaii scuba diving site and were rewarded with a find of a dragon moray, arguably the 2 second most beautiful eel behind the blue ribbon eel, which is not found in Hawaii. We saw many other things as well and this dive alone would be worth a dive trip with or without the nudists.
- SEO and SEM Explained By a Dummy!
[Internet-and-Businesses-Online:SEO] Here is a very simplified breakdown of SEO. The URL is to the title, which is to the description, which is to the headings, and the headings are to the alt tags, and then keywords, keyword phrases and proper keyword density in the content. The headings, the title, the alt tags and the URL have the keywords and keyword phrases incorporated into them, followed by the bottom header of the title again and find links. Oh and make it look natural.
- Wow! Big Island Scuba Diving; Honounou Hawaii's Kona Coast
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] It is not uncommon to count over 150 different spices of fish at Honounou. Turtles, dolphins and manta rays are routinely spotted by Big Island Hawaii scuba divers & snorkels at Honounou.
Another great find here is the very hard to spot leaf scorpions which look like leafs but have the same type of eyes as the stone fish, which look like what I would guess the monolith called TMA from 2001 a Space Odyssey would look like when you peered in except the difference here is that if Dave looked in he would say instead "Wow it's full of fish!"
- Scuba Diving - a Beginning
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] Scuba Divers are seen by most as being adventurous and there is plenty of that, if that is what you seek, from cave diving and wreck diving, to technical diving, you can as crazy as you want. However, scuba diving as a recreational sport is available to all. The young the old and even handicapped people all enjoy this sport.
- Sihanoukville Cambodia's Hidden Culinary Treasures from Thailand and Vietnam, Asia, Asian
[Travel-and-Leisure] The Basil Chicken is tangy but at the same time surprisingly delicate; even something as simple as sauteed vegetables receives moans of approval and become a topic of conversation among tablemates. All the textures and aromas are folded into one another with techniques passed from grandmother to granddaughter and are blended in Noi's kitchen with skill and grace.
Also some of these Vietnamese restaurants will serve frogs legs which believe it or not taste just like chicken only better. Some even sell dog but I just can't go there, but I understand that the chicken tastes better. Expect to leave little food or money on the table when you leave with the average dish around $2.50
- What You Need For A Guinness World Record
[Recreation-and-Sports] Most of the records that are in the Guinness Book of World Records are truly amazing. You are not going to be able to go out and set a record without some training and planning. The Guinness event that I am personally familiar with was Matt Frames Guinness World Record for longest handcuffed swim that he did twice. The first one was swimming 5.8 km handcuffed which took over 6 hours. The 2nd record attempt on Jan 13, 2007, he swam 20 km handcuffed and was in the water swimming continuously for over 16.5 hours, with short in water breaks to take fluids and nourishment in the form of protein drinks.
- Angkor Wat - South East Asia Crown Jewel
[Travel-and-Leisure] Angkor Wat itself is the main attraction. It is as you would expect one of the first World Heritage Sites. The physical size has the ability to take your breath away the first time that you get up close to it, with its 5 lotus like towers, and the large moat which is one kilometer on each side, and 100 meters across, is hard to get your head around.
- Shore Scuba Diving on Oahu - Drop in Anytime
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] Magic Island is fun but a little tricky as you need to be careful getting in, as you need to transit out to the dive area following the boat channel the boats really aren’t expecting to see divers here so be careful of where you come up, and dive with a dive flag overhead. When you get into around 10 meters of water look under the rocks for male turtles these can get to be the size of Volkswagens. Don’t touch them unless you have an extra 5000 USD for the fines as these are a endanger species and are vigorously protected.
- Buying a Scuba Diving Computer? What to Ask When You Buy a Dive Computer
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] The electronic compass is also nice for when I am navigating at night in a strange town, and I don't speak the language like Saigon or Bangkok, so for me while the cost was high, I get lots of good use out of it. I myself got into some trouble when my computer batteries ran out and I needed to rent a computer, and didn't understand all the messages that the computer gave me, resulting in me going into decompression diving and not knowing it!
- Philippines Scuba Diving on Shoestring Budget
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] The diving at Puerto Galera was a real treat seeing numerous butterfly species including tear drops, saddle backs and lots of different noses including orange nose, blue nose, and hump nose. A highlight of the trip was swimming right into a large group of tunas in 40 meters of water, who swim by close enough for me to see all of the beautiful coloration. Balicasag Island had a few different types of nudibrachs as well that were quite beautiful to behold in their outrageous fluorescent color schemes. There is also some real good shallow reef that held at least 4 different types of clown fish, finding Nemo here is a snap
- Snorkeling, Scuba Diving and Free Diving; What's the Difference?
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] Besides wrestling bears or boxing kangaroos I can’t think of a fairer fight. Hunting fish with scuba diving gear is illegal in most places, and is considered in all sportsmen’s eyes as unethical.
Shallow Water Blackout, which can be deadly! Shallow Water Blackout is caused by the changing partial pressures of air at depth, which most only affects free divers and is why it is recommended to get some training, and why serious free divers always dive with a buddy that understands about Shallow Water Blackout, and what to do should it happen.

- Scuba Diving in Cambodia - More Fish & Less Divers

You have Vietnam known for its Nudibranch and soft corals, and Thailand known for diving in two different bodies of water, the Adman Sea, famous for its leopard sharks and lion fish, and the Gulf of Thailand with its warm water where whale sharks can be seen, as well as a large assortment of reef fish like wrasses, parrots and angel fish.
- Holiday Madness in Sihanoukville Cambodia
[Travel-and-Leisure] Sihanoukville is fast becoming a main Asia tourist destination with a transition from the backpackers , flash packers and flesh packers to more travel groups, and main stream self directed tourists. The promise of next year seems to have finally arrived here in Sihanoukville, as many thought that this beach resort city would take off years ago, but with little support from the government, and the repeated missed deadlines for the opening of the airport, it never quite hit its stride.
- Bangkok New Airport ,Thailand's Suvarnabhumi
[Travel-and-Leisure:Aviation-Airplanes] If people have a problem with the new Bangkok airport it would be with the way that they have the taxi stand set up. In the past, you went out through the doors on the end of the customs area, past the money changers, then the limos, and out the doors and into the cue for a taxi. You would tell the expediters where you want to go to, and away you went, it was a very smooth and efficient process. The taxi stand at the new airport is downstairs and it is not marked, so the first time that you come through, you have to figure out that the price to get to town has not risen overnight to 800 baht, but that you are at the charter taxi stands, which are mainly there to fleece unsuspecting tourist
- Bangkok on the Cheap
[Travel-and-Leisure] Getting around Bangkok from Koh Shan Rd on local buses can be a real frustrating excursion; the little bit extra to take a taxi to the sky train is worth it. Most people will tell you to steer clear of the tuk tuks, unless you want to see every scam jeweler and tailor in Bangkok. An added benefit is that you get a way from all of the hustle and bustle of Koh Shan rd; however at night this is a highly recommended world class people watching location, with the nightly spectacle of thousands of backpackers and hippies milling in a kaleidoscope of fashions and colors not seen since the heyday of San Francisco’s Height Asbury
- Buying Scuba Diving Gear Regulators-What You Need To Ask Before You Buy!
[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] Regulators are usually the first major investment for most scuba divers and will be a one time purchase for most sport divers. For those divers that go down the tech, wreck, cave and professional scuba diver paths, they will probably want to upgrade several times during their careers. The secret is keeping you gear in good repair, with all of the service records, and you should be able to retain 60% or more of the value.
- The Fiancee Visa, K1 Visa Allows You to Marry Most Anyone From Anywhere in the World
[Legal] The USA K1 Fiancee Visa application process is fairly simple, however the slightest mistake can cause you long delays and possibly even result in your finance deigned a K1 Visa. If you are caught misrepresenting on the application, it can result in them never getting a visa, which can also affect visa application to other countries! - Philippines: Traveling on a Budget, Without Getting Taken for a Ride!
[Travel-and-Leisure:Budget-Travel] In Manila especially they love to pull games like this, they also like to travel around in circles you might want to invest in a small compass and let them know that you know where you are going generally and that you have been to the country before. I am not afraid to tell them the direction that they are traveling in. No compass? a good indicator is if you are making all lefts or all rights you might be traveling in a circle. I always keep a camera handy and if I think that I am being taken advantage of I will take their picture it is truly amazing how quickly they can get you where you are going after you do this.
- Singapore's Chngai Airport - Asia's Most Friendly Airport
[Travel-and-Leisure:Aviation-Airplanes] I remember the first time that I was traveling to Singapore, I had visions of hardened customs officers complete with canes eagle eyeing me to catch me in the slightest of transgressions, so that they could bare my back and put permanent stripes in my tan. It turns out that this is exactly the opposite of what you will find when you transit through Singapore.
- Cambodia to Thailand Overland in the Rainy Season, a Great Adventure Value
[Travel-and-Leisure] The scenery was so spectacular, that one of our passengers swooned, and slammed her head into the floor with a bass drum like thud. The girl laying there with her eyes glazed over. Immediately set upon by her boyfriend who starts French kissing her, and some sex pat jumps on as well and starts having cheap sex with her breasts in a parody of CPR. we arrive at the border looking like extras from a remake gone terribly wrong of Lord of the Flies. The Thai customs guys pointing at us, their version of the 4 o’clock follies, and burst into the very same laughs that we started our trip with.
- Thailand Crack Down on Border Runs - The Clock Starts Now
[News-and-Society] Many have abused the system for years. Those with out proper visas would do border runs in order to stay in Thailand, some of them for years. Another new, but more sinister reason, was the arrest of John Kerr, the self confessed American murderer of Jon Bennet Ramsey, which ironically turns out later to be a hoax, was the final straw, causing the Thais immigration to lose face, as they failed in protecting the Thai people from foreign pedophiles and murders

[Recreation-and-Sports:Scuba-Diving] Most people start off buying a mask and snorkel then either a wet suit or fins. After this they will usually buy their regulators or perhaps a computer. Then again, if you have the financial wherewithal, you might consider buying a complete dive kit. Most dive centers promote dive packages that will suit a diver’s skills and future diving needs based on a thorough knowledge of you, from your association with the dive center. This can be a great way to go as they will put together dive sets with proven gear, and they purchase them in bulk and pass some of the saving on, so you get a better price than if you bought the dive gear ala carte.
