- Does God Feel Sad When She Sees Us Struggling?
[Self-Improvement:Inspirational] Last week, when I dropped Ella off at pre-school, there was a letter in her cubby from the Adapted Physical Education Teacher. She had done an assessment of Ella's gross motor skills to track the progress she is making with her delayed left side. The assessment listed her progress in specific skill areas and gave an overall "ranking."
At 39-months Ella's gross motor skills are at a 21-month level. While I am well aware of Ella's physical delay and have read various assessments in the past, there was something about this one that caused a deep sadness to well up from within me.
- I Have A Dream - Martin Luther King and the Law of Attraction
[Self-Improvement:Inspirational] Recently we celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. When I think of this great man, I hear the words from his inspiring speech in Washington DC, "I have a dream"- This man understood the Law of Attraction. He knew that a vision, if held firmly, consistently and clearly, could influence those around him and shift the very fabric of the physical universe.
- Life on Hold-The Weight of Death
[Self-Improvement:Grief-Loss] For the past few days I've been walking around feeling like there's a big weight hanging over me ready to fall at any moment. Getting things done has been a chore. Making plans beyond the next day has taken all of my willpower. It feels as though my life is on hold and that I'm just waiting.
- Your Comfort Zone Equals Your Money Zone or-I Don't Do Touchy Feely
[Self-Improvement:Success] On Saturday, as I was waiting for the hotel elevator after the Millionaire Mind Intensive lunch break, I overheard a snippet of conversation a man was having on a cell phone.
"I'm here at this Millionaire Mind Conference." "Yeah, there's been some pretty interesting stuff. But there’s also been a lot of touchy feely stuff. And you know me…I just don't do touchy feely!"
He really put an emphasis on that last statement. "I don't do touchy feely."
- Caution: Singing Driver Or Tears Of Joy Ahead
[Self-Improvement:Happiness] Too bad that we don't feel comfortable at the prospect of walking around all the time with tears of joy and a big smile on our faces. What would our neighbors and co-workers and family think of us? They'd probably consider us loony and have us hauled away to the funny farm. (Hmm interesting name!)
- Arachnophobia and Other Fears
[Self-Improvement] We had a little excitement this morning at home. My wife came out of the bathroom and said, quite calmly, “Ed, there’s a big black spider in the bathtub.” Since I was watching my daughter, Ella, at the time, I carried her in there to investigate. I was a bit surprised that my wife did not call it a Brown Recluse. That’s our running joke. She grew up in Brown Recluse territory, and so whenever she sees a brownish spider she says “Ed, I just saw a Brown Recluse. Go get it.” I gently remind her that the Brown Recluse does not live in Northern California as I gather up the culprit and take it outside.
- Wasabi Peas Have a 1000 Year Shelf-Life
[Self-Improvement:Motivation] Desiring a quick snack after work the other day, I grabbed a bag of Wasabi Peas and popped a handful into my mouth anticipating the little blast of Wah that comes with them. As I reached for the second handful, I happened to notice the expiration date on the bag. It read, “Best by, 093006.” My mind immediately interpreted those numbers to mean, the month September in the year 3006! And I thought, really I did, “Wow, that’s a shelf life of over 1000 years!”
- I'm a Crappy Brother: Perception and Reality
[Self-Improvement] Turns out I’m not a very good brother. I sort of knew it, but sometimes I’m a little dense. This past weekend I had a chance to hear all the details. My youngest brother recently returned from a yearlong trip in Central America, and we arranged to spend a night at a nearby hot springs to catch up and connect before he moves to Colorado.
- Of Gratitude, Sickness and Spiders
[Self-Improvement:Happiness] It's the season of gratitude, yet last week I found myself in a sea of darkness. I was sick. I don't know about you, but I find it very difficult to be grateful when I'm sneezing, coughing, aching and generally feeling horrible. I did my best to remain positive, reminding myself that I was being given a non- negotiable opportunity to relax and recharge
- True or False: Moving is Stressful?
[Self-Improvement:Stress-Management] Before you answer that, here's a snapshot from my family's recent moving experience:
The moving truck is almost empty. A large, heavy 4- drawer file cabinet, and a portable dishwasher are all that remain. Unfortunately, the truck needs to be moved forward a few feet in order to unload these items. I stand behind the truck, prepared to signal the driver.
