- History of the AC Cobra
[Automotive] The AC Cobra is a distinctive two door roadster produced in England during the nineteen sixties. The initial cars were fitted with a straight 6 engine, a common feature for limited produced cars of the era; although by the time the Cobra was produced it was considerably mature in its life. Shortly afterwards the engine was changed to a Chrysler V8. The body of the car was composed of aluminium body panels and steel tubing.

[Automotive:Motorcycles] The Harley Davidson Company is world renowned for its heavyweight motorbikes which sport distinctive and traditional designs, a style which ultimately lead to the chopper design used by many motorbike manufactures today. Harley Davidson is now a public company, and is also known under the names Harley or simply HD. The motorbikes produced by the company are commonly referred to simply as Harleys.

[Automotive] The De Soto marque is distinctively known for its badge, a silver figurine of the Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto, who led an exploration deep into the United States. This stylized logo sits at the front of the De Soto cars, which were produced between nineteen twenty eight and nineteen sixty one. The De Soto brand was owned and marketed by Chrysler.

To celebrate the queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee (50th anniversary of the queens reign) in two thousand and two fifty golden taxis were produced.
- Lanchester Motor Cars (Early History)
[Automotive] Founded in eighteen ninety five, the Lanchester Motor Company was started by the three Lanchester brothers and was to be based in the city of Birmingham, the West Midlands. The firm ran until nineteen fifty five, and the legal rights to the Lanchester name now belongs to the large multinational Tata Motors, which is based in Mumbai, India. This acquisition was brought about when Tata Motors bought Jaguar which had the rights to the Lanchester marque after Lanchester had merged with Daimler.

[Automotive] Produced from nineteen fifty six onwards, the Volga was the successor of the GAZ M20 Pobeda, a four door passenger car made from nineteen forty six up until nineteen fifty eight. The Volga is manufactured by GAZ, an automotive company created in the late nineteen twenties due to an arrangement between the Soviet Union and Ford. The Volga was popular and was the choice of many people who were among the so called "Nomenklatura", a class of elite people who held important roles within the Soviet Union in areas such as government, education and industry.
- Panhard Cars
[Automotive] Currently, Panhard produces military vehicles, although Panhard, as a marque, was acquired by Auverland in April two thousand and five. Auverland beat Panhard to the rights of manufacturing the small protected vehicle for the French army, and also then acquired the Panhard name.
- Maybach Luxury Cars
[Automotive] Originally known as the "Aircraft Engine Installation Company", Maybach was a subdivision of the airship manufacture, Luftschiffbau Zeppelin. Founded in nineteen hundred and nine, the company was the creation of Wilhalm Maybach, a German engine designer. His son was made the directory of the company, which mainly produced engines for the Zeppelins until nineteen nineteen.

[Automotive] Founder of DeLorean Motor Company, John DeLorean was born on January 6, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan. The engineer will likely be known by most for developing the DeLorean DMC 12, the car which features in the classic movie, 'Back to the Future'.

[Automotive] The British car producer Morgan Motor Company has been run by three generations of the Morgan family to present, after the company was first formed in 1909. The company was created by Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan, who became the chairman in 1937 and remained as the chairman of the company until his death in 1959.

[Automotive] Founded on September 24, 1948, the Honda Motor Company is well known for its production of motorbikes and vehicles. The company outputs the largest number of motorbikes in the word, as well as being the second largest producer of vehicles in Japan.

[Automotive] Subaru is a Japanese automobile manufacture, a subdivision of the Fuji Heavy Industries. Fuji Heavy Industries is currently partnered with Toyota Motors who own sixteen and a half percentage of the group. Subaru is well known for its four wheel drive cars as well as high performance turbo charged cars, some of which have competed in motorsports such as the Subaru Impreza WRX.

[Automotive] Marcos Cars was founded in nineteen fifty nine by Frank Costin and Jem Marsh. The sports car manufacture was based in the Bedfordshire town of Luton, thirty or so miles north of London. Frank Costin had worked on the British combat aircraft, the de Havilland Mosquito. Working on the versatile Second World War aircraft gave Costin the idea of using the strong engineered wood Plywood for the chassis of the Marcos cars.

[Automotive:Motorcycles] Originally founded in nineteen zero three, Harley Davidson is a famous and well established motorcycle brand worldwide. The American motorbike producer was founded in Wisconsin, USA, where its headquarters are still based. The founders William Harley, Arthur Davidson, William Davidson, and Walter Davidson named the business after themselves; after William Harley and childhood friend Arthur Davidson created a powered cycle in nineteen zero one which was a modest first attempt which was poor at hill climbing, but they quickly began on other bikes.
- Lotus Elan
[Automotive] Produced between nineteen sixty two and nineteen seventy five, the Lotus Elan line-up consists of a two door coupe and two door roadster. The initial Elan models were introduced within this time frame and are now commonly known as the sixties Elans to distinct the cars from the later nineteen nineties models when the marque was reborn. The Lotus Elan follows the trend of the Lotus cars model names which begin with the letter L.
- Lotus Esprit
[Automotive] Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Lotus Esprit was produced for a total of twenty eight years, between nineteen seventy six and two thousand and four. The initial design based on the elongated Europe chassis was displayed to the public at the nineteen seventy two Motor Show in Turin. The name Esprit was in tradition with the E starting names, such as Elan, Elite, Europa and Elise. Over ten thousand of the sports cars were produced within its life time.

[Automotive] Abarth Cars was founded by the Austrian born Karl Abarth, a designer who later became an Italian citizen and changed his first name to Carlo. Between nineteen twenty five and nineteen twenty seven Abarth worked as a motorbike designer for Castagna, whilst still only a teenager. Abarth was also a keen motorbike rider and raced in many races.
- The Toyota Land Cruiser
[Automotive] The manufacturing of the Toyota Land Cruiser began in nineteen fifty four, a four wheel drive car which was similar to a Jeep. The first generation of the cruiser began in nineteen fifty one, but was not yet named the "Land Cruiser."
- Peugeot 404
[Automotive] The Peugeot 404 was a D-segment (large family car classification) produced between nineteen sixty and nineteen seventy five. Manufactured by the French based car makers Peugeot, the 404 was designed by the Italian automobile designers Pininfarina. The car was produced in Europe until nineteen seventy eight, with the 404 still produced in Kaduna (Nigeria) until nineteen eighty nine under license.
- Audi 80
[Automotive] Produced by the German automobile firm Audi, the Audi 80 is a small sized executive car which was produced for thirty years between nineteen sixty six and nineteen ninety six. The car was available in a saloon body style and also an estate class. There were coupe and convertible variations of the car, but they did not share the name or badge of the Audi 80 even though they were nearly identical and shared mostly the same parts and styling.

[Automotive] The French automobile producer Peugeot manufactured the 205 for fourteen years, between nineteen eighty three and nineteen ninety seven. The production of the car in the UK ceased a year earlier, in nineteen ninety six.

[Automotive] Being the second oldest sports car still in production (the Chevrolet Corvette is the oldest), the Porsche 911 was introduced in nineteen sixty four and is produced in Stuttgart, Germany. The design of the 911 has been tweaked continually throughout its lifespan, yet the overall approach to the car has remained the same. The car remains rear engined, a characteristic shared with the VW Beetle which was also designed by Porsche.

[Automotive] The Toyota Supra is a legendary sports car which has appeared in action movies such as The Fast and the Furious, as well as racing video games such as Gran Turismo. Toyota, the manufacture of the Supra, produced the car between nineteen seventy nine and two thousand and two. Initially the Supra was the Celica Supra, a larger derivative of the Toyota Celica.
- The Porsche Boxster
[Automotive] Designed by the Dutch vehicle designer Harm Lagaay, the Porsche Boxster is a roadster (also referred to as "spyders" or "spiders") which was introduced just before the beginning of nineteen ninety seven. First in the series was the 986, a two and half litre six cylinder powered sports car which would become two point seven litre three years later when the Boxster S was also introduced.

[Automotive] Constructed in two thousand and two, the Ferrari Enzo was built as a celebration of Ferraris first World Championship of the Millennium. The car is referred to as the "Enzo Ferrari", "Ferrari Enzo", or just the "Enzo". The Enzo Ferrari is named after the founder of the business, Enzo Ferrari, race driver and entrepreneur who first created the Scuderia Ferrari racing team and then the Ferrari car manufacture.

[Automotive] The TVR Speed 12 was a concept car which was engineered with the aim of being the fastest road car, and lay the way for a GT racing car. The project was known under other aliases, including project 7/12, speed 12, and Cerbera. The project began in the year nineteen ninety seven, by the British car manufacture.

[Automotive] One of the world's most famous and innovative sports cars ever produced to this day, the McLaren F1 broke the record for becoming the fastest production car ever. Produced in the nineteen ninety eight, the car still holds the record of being the world's fastest NA engine production car, although three other production cars have beaten the F1 at their all out top speed. The McLaren was a milestone in car production, with a top speed of two hundred and forty miles per hour.

[Automotive] The Range Rover Sport is manufactured by Land Rover in its manufacturing plant in the west midlands town of Soliihull, close to Birmingham, within the United Kingdom. Introduced in 2005, the Sport is classified as a sports utility vehicle or SUV for short, with its main market being the sport touring vehicles, with the car's sporty appearance including a rear spoiler and more aerodynamically sound body.

[Automotive] Produced for eight years, between nineteen fifty one and nineteen fifty nine, the Austin Healey 100 was manufactured by Donald Healey's company, under the British Motor Corporation umbrella. Originally the Austin Healey 100 was built on the same mechanical basis as the Austin A90, and David Healey only produced one model to put into the London Motor Show held in nineteen fifty two. The car was built solidly and the aesthetics pleased the British Motor Corp who decided to produce more models.
- Bentley Continental GT
[Automotive] The high powered Bentley Continental GT was introduced in two thousand and three, equipped with a six liter W12 engine. The Continental GT is capable of reaching speeds close to two hundred miles per hour (around three hundred and twenty kilometers per hour), and the car has in fact beat the previously held world record speed on ice (previous ice speed record was held by the Bugatti EB110 SS).

[Automotive] The Italian sports car manufacture, Ferrari, produced the Ferrari Mondial for thirteen years, from nineteen eighty to nineteen ninety three. Ferrari is an Italian based manufacturer based in Maranello, and was founded by Enzo Ferrari in nineteen twenty eight. The extremely successful company, which has had remarkable success in Formula One, began to produce the Ferrari Mondial in nineteen eighty.
- Ferrari F355
[Automotive] The Italian performance car producer Ferrari created the Ferrari F355 between nineteen ninety four and nineteen ninety nine, a production lifespan of five years. The F355 was introduced as a successor of the V8 powered, 2 seater, Ferrari F348. The F355 was succeeded by the Ferrari 360 after its production run ended in nineteen ninety nine.

[Automotive] Subaru is a Japanese automobile producer. The name "Subaru" originates from Japanese mythology, and the star cluster of Pleiades. The use of the star cluster symbol is used on Subaru's badge, with the large star representing the large holding company; Fuji Heavy Industries, and the other five stars illustrating the five smaller subsidiaries of the parent company. Subaru, when translated into English, means to unite, or gather.

[Automotive] Toyota Motor Corporation is a large automobile manufacturer based in Japan, and is currently the largest automaker in the world as of 2008-2009. Lexus is a division of the Toyota Motor Corporation, a subsidiary which focuses on producing luxury vehicles.

The car serves a market which is fonder of large cars due to perceived safety and dominance, whilst trying to maintain affordability and efficiency of the smaller car.

The name is so popular and well known that the term "Transit" is often used in relation to any commercial van of similar size to the Ford Transit van. The van is manufactured in Europe and has become the best selling light commercial van in the past four decades, with over five millions transit vans produced since the production began in nineteen sixty five.

[Automotive] The entity which was to become Lagonda initially began its life in a garden of a house in Staines, producing motorbikes. Wilbur Gunn manufactured the motorbikes on a very small scale, but an indication of his workmanship and ability was illustrated by success in competitions in which he entered his bikes. Wilbur Gunn began to create his first car in nineteen zero seven - the Torpedo, which produced twenty brake horsepower from a six cylinder engine.

[Automotive] A concept car designed by Volkswagen, the Volkswagen 1L, is an innovative vehicle which is designed to be highly efficient in fuel consumption. The 1L, or 1 litre, is named after its task of running for a total of one hundred kilometres whilst using just one litre of fuel. In another unit of comparison this is; 235 miles per 1 US gallon of fuel. The car is a two seater, with the two seats being linear, i.e. in tandem, opposed to being side by side, like in the majority of cars to date. The Volkswagen 1L is designed to be road worthy and practical as an everyday car, yet extremely efficient to reduce fuel consumption.

[Automotive] William Walmsley and William Lyons founded the motor business, Swallow Sidecar Company, in 1922. Located in the British seaside resort of Blackpool, the original Swallow Sidecar Company name was shortened to SS Cars during the first year of establishment. The automotive business then relocated to city of Coventry, a city located in the central region of England, offering great transportation links.

[Automotive] MG, a name originating from "Morris Garages", is a sports car manufacturer located within the United Kingdom. MG specifically focused its efforts on producing two seater sports cars, which were produced in its manufacturing facility close to Oxford, initially. Although MG produced mostly two seater sports cars, it did also produce other car styles, including coupes and saloon cars. The production of MG cars from its Abingdon plant finished in nineteen eighty, with revivals on the brand seen with various faster variations of cars for the up and coming years.

[Automotive] Originally a coach building company, Jensen became a high performance and commercial vehicles manufacture based in the West Midland. The two brothers who founded the company, Richard Jensen and Alan Jensen, after taking over a manufacturing facility which was formally owned by WJ Smiths and Sons, named their newly formed business Jensen Motors.

[Automotive] The car maker, which prides itself on its rally and racy heritage, Lancia, was created in nineteen zero six, by Vincenzo Lancia and a close friend. The Italian based automobile manufacture has been known as a car producer which is innovative and creates distinctive models for sale. Lancia is currently in the ownership of the Fiat car group, and has been since it was acquired in the late nineteen sixties. Lancia creates luxury and high end car models, based heavily upon the Fait car models.

[Automotive] The Toyoda Automatic Loom Works Company was founded in 1926 by Sakichi Toyoda. The company produced looms and other innovative products. A new segment of the business was formed in nineteen thirty three, placed in the control of the founder's son, Kiichiro Toyoda, a business geared towards car and motoring production. The Toyota Motor Corp is now a vast empire of epic promotions, employing over three hundred thousand people across the globe, and being the world's leading car maker. The Toyota group has over five hundred subsidiary companies, and has its headquarters in Japan.

[Automotive] Andre Citroen founded the company he named after himself, "Citroen", in 1919. The French company became the first mass automaker outside of America to have any mass market success, with simple designs which served the growing automobile market well. Also credited with the production of the worlds ever first front wheel drive car, the Citroen Traction Avant in 1934, Citroen has been a front leader in innovative and uncommon designs, although remaining efficient in producing mass market cars which sold well.

[Automotive] Volvo Cars, now a part of the Ford Motor Company, was originally a subsidiary company of SKF, a ball bearing manufacture. The name Volvo actually translates in Latin to "I roll", a clear illustration of the company's early involvement in the ball bearing making business. Volvo, founded in 1927 in Sweden, became an independent from SKF when the company was floated on the stock exchange market in Sweden. 1999 saw Volvo Cars bought by Ford Motor Company, previously being owned by AB Volvo.

[Automotive] Vauxhall Motors, now within the GM Group, is a British car maker which was founded in 1957 in a place called Vauxhall in London, adopting the name for the company. Modern Vauxhall models are slight RHD variations of the Opel brand, also under the GM umbrella. The company current known as Vauxhall Motors was firstly named Alex Wilson and Company, a business which manufactured marine engines from its Vauxhall base.

[Automotive] The British sport car manufacture, Lotus Cars, creates high performance cars and car parts in its England factory. First established in the early fifties, the company was founded by Chapman, an engineer who named the new motor company Lotus Engineering Ltd. Two years after the formation of the company, the group segmented into two, with the team Lotus competing successfully in F1 racing for many decades.

[Automotive] Fords attempt to globalise their business was initially hindered due to localised tastes and demands, with the attempt to sell popular American cars overseas proving ineffective. Even switching the models to automatics or manuals and creating both right and left hand drive cars had little impact on the saleability of the Ford cars in the various countries around the world. Ford began to create models specific to countries and areas, such as the Ford Mondeo in Europe, which met the tastes and demands of the home countries, whilst being unpopular overseas, even in the U.S market where Ford is based.
- AC Cars - Pre WW2 - History
[Automotive] Two brothers, the Wellers, produced a 20HP touring car for the 1903 Crystal Palace motor show, with further ideas to produce more advanced versions of the 20hp. Deterred from the plan and guided by their funder, Portwine, to produce a more economical three wheeled vehicle, named the Auto Carrier. A year after producing their original 20HP car, the new Auto Carrier went into production and became a big success. The company also changed named during these times, now named Autocars And Accessories, and three years later embarked on a new passenger version of the Auto Carrier. The successful business renamed again in 1911, now become Auto Carriers Ltd, using the AC logo on production cars.
- Alfa Romeo History
[Automotive] Part of the Fiat Group since the mid eighties, the Italian Alfa Romeo Car Company was created in 1910 in Milan. Originally the Societa Anonima Italiana Darracq (SAID) company, the group was first founded in 1906 and was located in Naples. Behind the group was the French Alexandre Darracq firm, and Italian investors, with Alexandre Darracq later deciding to move the company to Milan, where a new eight thousand square yard factory was created to house the new automobile company. One of the Italian investors, the aristocrat Ugo Stella, decided to form the new A.L.A.F Company due to lagging sales of the Italian Darracq cars.
- Aston Martin Early History
[Automotive] Servicing vehicles and selling Singer cars from their garages in London, Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin were business partners, with the latter of the business associates racing at Aston Hill regularly. Founded in 1913, Aston Martin, a name derived from the last name of racer Lionel, and the race track near Aston Clinton, Aston Hill, which he raced at, was set up as the two decided to create their own cars. In 1915 Lionel Martin created their first car, the Aston Martin, a hybrid born from the 4-cylinder Coventry Simplex engine and the frame of the Isotta-Fraschini, which was created in their newly acquired premises in Kensington. With the First World War beginning, the tools and machines used by the pair were sold, and the two joined the arm services.

[Automotive] Mercedes-Benz, a subsidiary company of the Daimler AG parent company, is a German based automotive manufacture which produces cars, buses, vans and trucks. Having its roots in the very foundation of the automobile history, the Mercedes-Benz brand has well established heritage and prestige within the market place. The creation of the first automobile by Karl Benz was followed by the first marketed automobile by Mercedes at the turn of the century. The forward thinking company has developed a vast number of innovations over the course of its history, benefiting both the technological standard of the vehicles performance, and the safety of its passengers.

[Automotive] Founded in 1922, the automotive business entity now commonly known as Jaguar was originally called the Swallow Sidecar Company, with its home in the north-west coastal town of Blackpool. The original Swallow Sidecar Company was founded by two motorbike enthusiasts, William Walmsley and William Lyons. The company changed its name in 1922, the named shortened to SS Cars Ltd, with the business now located in Coventry. The now commonly known Jaguar Cars Ltd was formed in 1945, with the old business named of SS loosing popularity due to the Second World War.

- Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit Information
[Automotive] The 6.8 litre V8 powered Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit superseded the Silver Shadow, although maintaining much of the same layout and the same V8 engine, and was introduced in 1980 to much applauds. Although the Silver Shadow was tremendous in terms of production numbers, the car was becoming dated and Rolls-Royce craved a renewal of its image in 1980, such as the Silver Shadow had done 15 years earlier.
- Triumph TR6 and TR7 Information
[Automotive] In production for seven years, the Triumph TR6 had very aesthetically pleasing looks which were backed up by an inline 6 cylinder engine. The four speed 6 cylinder engine produced 150bhp in the entry TR6 model, with the TR6 also available with an overdrive unit which was very much welcomed for motorway runs. The front disc brakes, independent rear suspension and sport seats enhanced the British sports car image of the TR6, an aspect of the TR6 which was sadly lacking and much criticised for.
- Volkswagen Golf Information
[Automotive] Known around the world under many different labels, including, Caddy, CitiGolf and Rabbit, the Volkswagen Golf and Golf GTI are true classic and iconic models within the VW brand. With the Beetle originally taking the stage as the VW mass produced car, Volkswagen were forced to develop another cheap to produce mass market car. The acquisition of Audi into the company greatly increase the experience and knowledge of designing and building front engine cars. This, and the design of the new mass car being penned by the great and well respected designer Giorgio Giugiaro, meant that the Golf was set up for great success.

[Automotive] The Land Rover Range Rover was introduced in 1970 and was an instant success. The simple design was resistant, practical and of high performance compared to the previous Land Rover models. The aluminum body paneled Range Rover quickly paved its way to become the leading four wheel drive off-roader.

[Automotive] Based on the XJ Saloon, the Jaguar XJS was composed to be an elegant grand tourer with the task of becoming the E Type replacement. The luxury grand tourer was successful, although the sporty character of the previous E Type was never really achieved with the Jaguar XJS.

[Automotive] Styled by Giovanni Michelotti, the Triumph Stag had Italian styling influence and was produced for eight years from 1970 to 1978. The classic new look of the four headlamps appearing on the grille and the newly composed front and back, was a design set to be seen on other Triumphs. A lot of the Stag was influenced by the Triumph 2000 saloon, and equipped wit a 3 litre V8 which later appeared in the Dolomite.

[Automotive] Often said to be firstly named the Porsche 901, the name was later scrapped due to Peugeot having copyright over car model names which contain three numbers, with a zero in the middle. The Porsche had a name change to 911 before release in 1964. Replacing the Porsche 356, the beginnings of this long running classic proved to owe itself to the great styling of the car, and great performances in a number of races on a spectrum of driving surfaces.

- MG Midget
[Automotive] Introduced in 1961, the MG Midget is a roadster based on the Austin Healey Sprite, a small British sports car. Originally sporting a 948cc engine, the MG Midget produced 46hp, which was shortly after increased to a capacity just over a litre to increase power to 56hp. Being produced as a relatively cheap sports car like the Sprite, the MG Midget had little features internally, with low costing options for the body too.

[Automotive] Designed by Giovanni Michelotti, the Triumph Spitfire was released in 1962, based heavily on the Triumph Herald. With the chassis, suspension and 1147cc engine all from the Herald, the Triumph Spitfire was lightweight and relatively low cost to produce. The low overheads were needed in the production of the Triumph Spitfire to ensure the sports car could compete on retail price with the much popular Austin Healey Sprite, an affordable sports car.

[Automotive] Leaping into production in 1958, the Donald Healey Sprite was a low cost sports car which used existing BMC parts to ensure over heads of the cars productions remained low. The Austin Healey Sprite would prove to be a big success.
- MG, MGB, and MGB GT Information
[Automotive] Produced by British Leyland, the MGA's replacement, the MGB, became the number one selling sports car with an extremely sleek design. Rapid sales saw the MGB, initially a soft top, released as GT and GT V8 versions. The 1800cc 4 cylinder engine was quick for its day, capable of reaching 0-60mph in eleven seconds and producing just under 100hp.
