- The Retirement Watch
[Home-and-Family:Retirement] April 12, 2007, was the dinner celebration of my working on the Open Heart/Heart Transplant team at a renowned heart center in Cleveland for 25 years. Actually, it's more than 25 years, I took time off to go to graduate school yo get my Master's in Philosophy ... they docked my time for that.
- Seven Lessons From Stand Up Comedy
[Writing-and-Speaking:Public-Speaking] As a Stand Up Comedian channeling my talents, improvisational skills and performance accrual into my speaking business. I have acquired wisdom from performance arts that are apropos to the speaking business.
- The Naked Invisibility of Michelle Obama
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] Recently, I have noted the lack of feminist/feminista support for Michelle Obama in light of the overarching 'white male' media attacks against Mrs. Obama. Sadly, Mrs. Obama has had her 'blackness' questioned as perhaps being too black, Mr. Obama was referred to as her 'baby's daddy' and other racially directed assaults have been levied against Mrs. Obama.
- The at Work Wife
[Business:Workplace-Communication] A definition of an 'at work' wife is someone (man or woman) who is dutifully and voluntarily bound to their boss, a so-called powerful executive (male and female executives, yet predominantly male) only in the workplace. The relationship bears a perfunctory resemblance to marriage.
- Two Great Things About Public Speaking
[Writing-and-Speaking:Public-Speaking] I enjoy speaking to audiences! But, sometimes I do not take full pleasure in the necessary writing of the speech, the crafting of the speech insiders would say. It takes time to find the right words, and then better words after you have found those. In the past I always wanted to come off as totally spontaneous and as if the speech just came off the top of my head. I learned that without preparation, and practice it just does not happen that way!
- Seven Lessons From the President of Xerox!
[Writing-and-Speaking:Public-Speaking] Recently, I was privileged to witness Ursula Burns, the President of Xerox Corporation, speak to our intimate group of community and business people. The powerful aura surrounding Mrs. Burns is undeniable. Yet, it is NOT only due in to her being the President of Xerox. During her speech, I tried to assess the rationale for her powerful and forceful bearing upon the stage and the audience. I had these observations.
- You Or Your OB's Labor of Convenience?
[Home-and-Family:Pregnancy] There was an incredible case (among many) mentioned in Ms. Block's book that occurred in Florida, involving a woman who had previously delivered by Caesarean section but wanted to deliver vaginally, and was ordered by the court to deliver...by Caesarean! What was most troubling about that case is that she was physically escorted to the hospital under protest, yet with a court order, and police at her delivery enforcing the court order!
- Your Book is Your DNA!
[Writing-and-Speaking:Book-Marketing] The marriage and intercourse of your words provides the DNA of your book. In essence, your book is all YOU!
- Two Words That Make Most Audiences Cringe!
[Writing-and-Speaking:Public-Speaking] In transitioning from stand up comedian (who speak their minds) to a Toastmasters Humor Speaker in a contest, let me tell you what not to do. There is a rule known in comedy circles, and actually any performance circle, called 'know your audience.' It is a good rule and one that will always help you craft your message to the correct demographic. Unless you are a smart aleck comedian.
- Gang War Over Heart Disease
[Health-and-Fitness:Heart-Disease] I am indeed the product of my environment. I am a cardiothoracic surgical nurse on one of the most renowned open heart teams in the nation, maybe the world. As such, I am immersed in a culture of cut, tie, repair, meaning, I look for the surgical remedy as 'the' remedy in regards to heart disease.
- More Women Die After Open Heart Bypass
[Health-and-Fitness:Heart-Disease] A recent study at the University of Chicago, included a combined total of 15,440 men and women from 31 hospitals between the years 1990 and 2000. These subjects underwent CABG (coronary artery bypass graft). The average age of the men was 63 and the average age of the women was 66. One enigmatic result of that study is that 22% of women are more likely to die after CABG than men!
- Diversity Hurts!
[Writing-and-Speaking:Public-Speaking] As a speaker you should realize that if you do not position yourself as the expert on your topic, your concept, or by your title, you may not reap the profits you desire. If you are too many things to too many audiences, you do not have a true following, nor perhaps a true message.
- The Power of Wit and Grit!
[Self-Improvement:Inspirational] I had want to go to Aspen for the Comedy Festival for a few years. First as a comedian to perform and of course to just 'hang out' in Aspen! That year for some reason I just decided to go. I do not mean planning to go. I just decided to take off and go. I made no reservations at any hotels. I did get my airline ticket at a good rate. I had no idea how I would get to Aspen from Denver as I only had enough money to get to Denver. These facts did not stop me, instead these things intensified the adventure aspect of the trip for me!
- Learning From Hilary Clinton's Speaking Mistakes!
[Writing-and-Speaking:Public-Speaking] First off, this is not a partisan diatribe and/or endorsement of Hilary Clinton for president. What this article ascribes to be is information that you as a speaker can learn from and utilize in your public speaking.
- Plastic Surgery Shows Rock!
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Movies-TV] The surgery appears to empower the person. Admittedly, I do not know or need to know how long the empowerment lasts, but going through the procedure provides a some measure of satisfaction.
- White Teeth Are Important!
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] I have been introduced to a speaker and when that person opens their mouth, I notice that their teeth are grey or yellow and not in the best condition. Frankly, every time this situation occurs, I am shocked.

[Self-Improvement:Inspirational] You have everything in you to succeed and move forward. Remember that. It is there. In writing this, I too have said this prayer to myself.
- Bringing Light to Where the Sun Does Not Shine!
[Arts-and-Entertainment:Humor] These days everything appears (no pun intended...just wait you'll see) to qualify for a beauty makeover. Now, coming to the land of where the sun does not shine is the procedure called 'anal bleaching.' I kid you not, anal bleaching has now gone mainstream (Ahhhh, get the kids in the house! Lock the doors! Put up the shutters!)
- 'Being' John Malkovich, Err, a Speaker!
[Writing-and-Speaking:Public-Speaking] "You can Stand Up, but will you STAND OUT?" To 'STAND OUT' is the mark of brilliance and it comes through evolution and transformation.
- Garanimal Voting, Garanimal Politics
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] In a somewhat disturbing way both rationales make sense. Women, and maybe particularly white women want to finally 'represent'! As well, Blacks (men and women) are also are at the same monumental crossroad.
- The Naked Invisibles
[Health-and-Fitness] Patients today are so lucky! You have the internet and the ability to read up on not only your disease but who can most effectively cure or treat said disease. Today, you and I as patients are empowered! Do not let a hospital stay take your power away!
- Whoa! I Don't Want to Know About Your ED!
[Health-and-Fitness:Mens-Issues] I was not entirely surprised that my Dad wanted to ask me a question. But, remember I am a specialty nurse, and yes, that means (for once) that I do not know it all.
- Now, I Know My Life Had a Purpose

- Two Things to Help Your Child Survive Childhood!
[Home-and-Family:Parenting] The events that occur to us as children shape us as adults. We do not forget those hurts, embarrassments, failures, successes, and accomplishments. Even when we are eighty, we remember vividly the day we caught the homerun ball, danced with the perfect guy (guys too) and other talismans of our childhood.
- The Parasitic Nature of Pregnancy
[Home-and-Family:Pregnancy] But, American women die in appalling numbers from murder at the hands of their spouses and/or significant others. American women die in childbirth in the process of giving birth and in the postpartum phase from heart related disorders, such as postpartum idiopathic cardiomyopathy, as well as other factors!
- How Stand Up Comedians Write And Generate Ideas!
[Writing-and-Speaking:Writing] Writing and thinking like a writer is an individualistic pursuit. Put your style in and on your writing as well as how you generate and retain your mulititude of ideas and yes, wisdoms.
- Scared? Do What Comedians Do and Take that Loaded Gun out of Your Mouth!
[Writing-and-Speaking:Public-Speaking] I caught Margaret Cho's act at a comedy club in Cleveland when she was 'working out' material for her off Broadway or Broadway hit show, 'I'm The One I Want.' She 'walked' part of the room, meaning some people...

[Writing-and-Speaking:Public-Speaking] In order to be passionate, not only know what you are talking about, feel it. Be excited with something to tell or share. Stephen Rosenfield of The American Comedy Institute in New York City would tell me...
- Heart Disease is Gang Turf!
[Health-and-Fitness:Heart-Disease] "...how mired in heart surgery my thinking is/was. I essentially worshiped at the feet of heart surgeons thinking they were the be all end all (well, that is how some of them act!) I came away from the book feeling that I am a part of a gang fight, whereby surgeons, cardiologists, and anesthesiologists are battling for turf... that turf being the patient!
- The Detritus of the Social Contract
[News-and-Society:Pure-Opinion] I don't scare easy. But, right now, I am scared to the loss of bowel contents to put it mildly! I did not realize until now the ramifications of having a great leader until the start of the reign of our present American president (small 'p' intended)...
- The Accumulative Effect of Doing
