The Zealot rush in Starcraft 2 is one of the most classic and effective strategies in the game and has been around since its predecessor, the original Starcraft. The reason is because Zealots are simple, tough and fast units that can quickly annihilate an opponent's base. Making a successful Zealot rush in Starcraft 2 means taking some time to do recon on your opponent early. Here is some of the steps you should take when you are deciding whether or not to rush and how to go about it with Zealots.
First off, make sure your opponent is not massing roaches, marauders, or any air units. This should not be a problem with a Zealot rush, but if you see an opponent going fast air, you had better either be hitting him just then or be moving onto another strategy. You can have 10 Zealots by the time an opponent has his first air unit, but the fact remains, one air unit is enough to deflect an entire crew of Zealots since they cannot counter, so try to avoid it!
Now you want to make sure your opponent is the correct race. One race I recommend avoiding with this strategy is Terran. The reason is because Terran is incredibly effective at blocking up a choke point and keeping units out. This is a huge problem for Zealots because they are melee and thus cannot deal with being blocked out! Avoid using this strategy against Terran unless you know a good way into the base such as around another entrance.
Finally, once you do start attacking, make sure you continuously provide ample reinforcements in the form of more Zealots and possibly Stalkers. You need to finish an opponent as soon as the opportunity presents itself. Not doing so will only allow your opponent to recover and possibly destroy you. A Zealot rush in Starcraft 2 needs to be done continuously until the opponent is destroyed!
